Pathetic. The anger here is palpable, and it doesn't take a genius to see why. This dev blog was less a response and more of a *****-slap to the playerbase. I love this game; 2 subs and 4 years later I'm still engaged. But this? This kind of smug, ungrateful garbage is so out of line with the CCP I thought I was dealing with, it's enough to make me wonder what I'll do when my subs run out.

Disgusted,

I'm mad over the lack of fundamental feature fixes still missing.

However, none of that compares to the pit in my stomach forming that you guys are pulling an SOE right now and killing a perfectly amazing game.

I'm most of all angry that you're administering chemotherapy and killing the best online community I've ever known.

I work for a multi billion telecommuncations company which has a reputation for poor customer service. The CEO during this time basically wanted to make as much money off customers as he could and do it as cheaply as humanly possible, making all kinds of cuts, offshoring a lot of centres and the work quality and customer service dropped a great deal as a result.

Two years ago, a new CEO took over and took the company in a totally new approach, a customer service centric attitude of operation. We asked our customers "What can we do to improve our service to you?" and took on board their feedback. Two years later our reputation has improved a great deal and people are starting to turn around and comment that we really did make an effort to change. If we didn't undertake this, we'd be on a steady road to decline and eventually closure.

CCP needs to take this same change of attitude on board, because it cannot afford to lose EVE subscribers. It's well known that they are struggling for for further income as is and the latest expansion only furthers such an image.

CCP, you must put your customer at the centre of what you do. You must make sure you give them a good experience so that they will come back and will bring others with them. Word of mouth is your biggest friend and your biggest enemy.

Poasting in a justified threadnaught.

For one, don't damn the ****storm people are causing, it's a ****storm because of how outraged the community is. Pointing the finger back at us and scolding us like children really, REALLY isn't going to fix the issues we've presented.

As for the 'the prices are the prices' statement, congratulations, you've pretty much convinced me you've absolutely no connection with your playerbase anymore, I mean, I've been waivering, but honestly, such a pig-headed and ignorant move on your part, for what? For the couple of monocles you're going to shift? You need to watch your subscription numbers, hopefully the new blood drawn in by Incarna will stick around long enough to serve as a replacement for all the diehard fans of the game that are leaving. I was going to say 'vets', but I think FANS is more appropriate.

Good luck with World of Darkness, EVE really does look like it's starting on a not-so-long road to hell, and it'll take Dust with it, if that even gets any uptake.

Who put these crackheads on eve radio, no1 cares about vanity items costing a ton of rl cash, no1 cares if CQ's lags your pc, WE CARE IF THEY ADD NON VANITY ITEMS INTO MT that effect the entire sandbox.. jesus can no1 get this concept at all? really?

cq lags your pc, get a better cpu.
vanity items cost to much, go play second life
they introduce non vanity items for rl money aka +6 implants, now the person who farms +5's in lvl4's and puts them for sale on market will no longer make much profit, therefore he will not bother doing 4's, now you have just 1 tiny portion of the community not playing eve anymore, lets add modules, same principal.

i swear most the people on these forums are CCP alt trolls who are rick rolling us all.

If they refused to reply, then we all need to ask in a louder tone.

They've given the answer already.

Look at it this way if they had no intention of introducing items that had some benefit ingame, then they would have told us and saved all this aggro.

True but if they realize almost everyone on the forums are not wanting it to go past vanity they might not, who knows, if you dont try you will not get anywhere.

I suspect that they expected loses initially, I also suspect that they feel that some of the people that unsub (I did 2 days ago) may resub even if they introduce MT items that give an advantage. After all the Eve community does tend to put up with a lot of crap from CCP, mainly because there's not many games like Eve (I don't know of another but then I've only played about 11 MMOs).

Seems everyone in our alliance is doing the same. I highly suggest everyone that pays a recurring sub goes into their account mgmt and cancels their sub. This will be instant hard data to those in charge at CCP that this...whatever this is, isn't going to end well for them if they continue down this path of denial, lying, and not having a clue that there's a massive rift between players and developers.

Threadnaught doesn't even begin to describe this event. As Helicity said, it is a singularity event. When the bright flash comes, don't bother covering your eyes. Embrace it as the moment when a very large number of us have the biggest gaming moment of our lives. Both players and developers. We will talk about this for years in a way that makes the T20 event seem like an insignificant event.

I'm incredibly insulted by this devblog. I'm incredibly insulted by CCP's response over EVERYTHING right now. It is an utter slap in the face. I don't profess to know the inner workings of CCP, and I can only assume it is typical of other game developers/publishers in the sense that at some point money becomes more important than the products that are being sold to willing, passionate customers. Customers who absolutely do NOT want to believe this is happening are suddenly living the nightmare.

I've played since beta 2003. My wife earned her college degree doing homework every night while mining, missioning, etc. We've subbed repeatedly over the years, coming back to Eve when things like wormholes and T3's were introduced, and cancelled when things like T20 happened. If this is not resolved to our liking, this will be the last time we ever sub Eve again. Seven accounts isn't much in the big scheme of things, but that is $100+ per month that can go to paying off a mortgage early, saving up for a vacation, or playing other MMO's that haven't hit the failscade that Eve suddenly has.

I've rarely posted on these forums. I'm no one important, this isn't even my main (already cancelled him and couldn't be bothered to post with him honestly, this is the last post I'll make until something, or, nothing happens. I'm not even going to tell you what I think you need to do to resolve this. I think you can get a pretty good idea based on the massive firebomb that has exploded in your midst.

This post will get lost in the rabble and walls of text, but I'm ok with that. I hope someone at CCP reads it. The ride over the years has been incredible. No other game has given me the adrenaline rush and excitement as pvp in Eve has. I will miss it. But I won't be lied to, deceived, insulted, or placated. I won't even demand answers or satisfaction. What you DO will speak louder than anything you can say at this point.

Look at what is happening in Jita right now. Amarr. Look at what is happening on your forums. I'm seeing players post that I haven't seen post in years. I'm seeing in-game enemies, friends, alliance mates, etc posting. It is a shame. A downright shame.

An incredible shame.

We're not losing out here, CCP. You are - on community like this, the community that brought you the success and fame - the "golden goose" that you have slaughtered at the table, searching its belly for golden eggs.

Our words, and yours, on this issue seem to be worthless. Only our actions have any weight.

I am carefully considering what to do next as I mull all this over.

Or maybe they havent decided either way yet? Prehaps the MT strategy is still in the works, can't we reserve the rage untill they actually come out and say that there will be MT's for non vanity items?

CCP,

I doubt you'll read this, as it'll probably be lost in the threadnaught, but I have really lost faith in your game and of you as a company.

Your devblog in response to our concerns was unsatisfactory. You had a chance to put out the fire and appease the majority of your player-base by simply answering some well deserved questions. Remember, though you may have outside investors, we, the customers, are also your investors. When the day comes that EVE is no longer your "cash cow" or "golden goose", which is looking like it may be sooner than later, will you address the concerns of your corporate investors the same way you did your customers?

I am completely disillusioned at what you have become. You have bitten off more than you can chew by producing DUST 514 and World of Darkness and now EVE is suffering for it. You are trying to milk your cash cow for every drop that it is worth and in turn are killing it. Don't pretend like it isn't happening because you have offered no evidence to suggest otherwise. If you lose EVE, how do you expect to complete DUST 514 and World of Darkness. Outside investors won't invest in your other projects because with the collapse of EVE, they have just now become high risk projects.

There is a saying I'm sure you're familiar with, "high risk, high gain". Is it really worth risking EVE and your other projects just for this high gain? Just so you can afford those $1000 jeans you speak of?

Honestly, I really expected more from this devblog. Did I expect you to put an end to the torch and pitchforks? No. But I at least expected you to show the courtesy of actually listening and answering our questions directly; not tip-toe around the issues. However, after reading about how dissatisfied some of your employees are with your communication and professionalism within CCP, I am not surprised in the least by your response.

http://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/CCP-Games-Reviews-E159347.htm

Whether these are real testimonials or not, it is pretty clear what the general consensus is that's hurting your company. Your complete lack of understanding and communication is not only suffering between you and your consumers, but between you and your employees. I now understand why it is too much to ask of you, CCP, for a decent response -- because you cannot even manage communication internally.

It may be a drop in the bucket within the grand scheme of things, but I plan on canceling all 4 of my accounts. You have broken my heart CCP. I was one of the few that actually supported the idea of Incarna. But you have taken things too far and you either do not understand what you did wrong, or you will not admit it.

There is still a chance for you to turn this around CCP. But you are quickly using up your nine lives. This devblog was a slap in the face to dedicated players like myself and there is no excuse for that. We are not the golden geese with $1000 jeans you think we are. I for one will not continue to pay you to kill your own game. You can do that for free.

If you turn things around, I will be back, I promise you.

So this thing is vanity items only?

Yes. We will start out with a rather limited number of items initially, carefully measuring the demand and how it impacts the economy. As time progresses, we'll gradually introduce new items and revise our strategy. We've also discussed this issue in depth with the Council of Stellar Management and will both consult with them and keep them up to date every step of the way.

http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=913

That's the thing. The same month that that dev blog went up was when the Greed is Good document was coming out. Granted; they didn't intend for us to see it, and it was simply intended as an internal conversation. But this is just another example of something that CCP has been horrible at for a long time; putting out one, singular, unified, clear message. It says, whether intentionally or not, that they're saying one thing and doing another. And we need to go back to one "party line," whatever it is. If that happens, it will help at least some of the rage, if not all of it.

now this is an interesting read from glassdoor.com

http://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Employee-Review-CCP-Games-RVW993686.htm

Quote:
Cons

The lack of professionalism is mind blowing. Procedures that are common in other companies are not used here and considered a waste of time. There is no solid vision for EVE which leaves employees with no other option than to start work and find out what is wanted by trial and error, this is what CCP means with Agile development.

Fun game play is not a priority, promises made to investors and aesthetics are. ‘If it looks good then it is good’ is an often heard motto. CCP is committed to use technology in EVE as well as WoD and DUST, so certain features are made and used in EVE knowing they will not be fun, nor fit EVE and no one expects them to be appreciated by the playerbase. Alienating the playerbase of EVE further. Objections from employees who point this out are waved away.

CCP does not take criticism well and often ignores retrospectives. Criticism is considered to be a negative attitude and is severely frowned upon. A lot of effort goes into maintaining a good morale with a lot of internal PR. After all it’s cheaper to print posters than pay an average salary to employees.

Several years now CCP has predicated insane subscriber goals that cannot be met. Naturally this is met with scepticism by the employees but it falls on deaf ears. The result is that the company is suffering because we cannot sustain the development of EVE, DUST and WOD. EVE is not creating enough revenue which means that solutions are sought, solutions that CCP was vehemently against a few years ago.

Career progression is nonexistent unless you become friends with the right clique of people and use the right corporate buzzwords. Hard work is not something that will set you apart, most people work hard until they become so disillusioned as they realise it makes no difference and slack off.

Combine this with the below average pay (CCP pays 30% to 50% less than other companies) and you’ll often hear a lot of frustration when work is discussed outside of the office by people who have been here for some time. The longer you stay the less you start to care about the game you develope, because no one else does.

Advice to Senior Management

Recruit very senior people from the games industry and actually listen to what they say. Stop believing your own hype.

what the **** am i paying you for, huh?

This is about keeping the golden goose of eve subscriptions (on a drip feed if necessary) while chasing and grubbing every little loose cent he can from the player base.

Let me give you a couple of examples of how this can and does (and has already) impacted our enjoyment of this game:

1. The Captains Quarters – it’s not gameplay its a display cabinet for vanity items. And the price of this display cabinet for you and I is that multi-client performance in stations is now terrible – if you have a bad graphic card it’s a jerk fest – if you have a decent graphics card it’s heat-fest. I can run 3-4 clients with CQ’s turned on – I can run it smoothly – but do I want to? Hell no because my Gtx 580 sounds like its melting my motherboard now! So I need to turn off the CQ’s on multiple accounts and as a result have more limited functionality on those accounts and an ugly wallpaper. No more station environment, no more clicking on my ship to open cargo hold, no more dragging ship to the hanger to board it. The delivery of the CQ vanity item display case has impacted my gameplay.

CCP could have made it optional and given us the option of keeping the old hanger view and added a “disembark ship” option to the UI but “oh no” to do that would have meant we weren’t being forced to look the vanity display case that marketing insisted must be front and centre if we’re to even think about buying these ridiculously overpriced items from the Noble store.

2. If you read the newsletter you’ll see reference to saved fitting slots – and I don’t know about you Verone but in JF we’ve run out of saved corp ship fittings. We want CCP to up the limit but is that really going to happen while the “biz-devs” talk honeyed words about how to squeeze extra income from players for such “minor upgrades.”? How long till we pay aurum for extra corp standing slots? For wardec options? For a usable corp management screen?

3. And who develops these vanity items? Yes thats right its Eve artists and developers whose salary we pay with our subscriptions. Given the choice wouldn’t you rather have engine trails and flashy cyno effect for all players rather than a bunch of overpriced tat in the Aur store for a fleeced few?

Because that is precisely the compromise being made here -> CCP using our subs money to pay for vanity item production they want to sell back to us for greedy prices and it is something you SHOULD get mad about.

So here’s the thing.

The time to fight for the game we love is not in six months time when these concepts have bedded down and CCP is feeling bold enough to start selling Noble Faction ammo and +9 implants. The time to fight is now. Because this newsletter embodies everything that many of us feared but didn’t want to believe CCP were becoming capable of. It is a massive betrayal of the compact we shared as players and developers of this game and indicates that CCP is preparing to leap down a very dark and deep path of self-immolation in the months to come.

I don’t want to see Eve Online die Verone. That sounds dramatic I know, but gameworlds die when the dreams and visions are extinguished and that can happen through a succession of bad ideas foisted on a community by people who really don’t have much of a clue in business.

-----*sarcasm on*-----

Could it be that CCP is on drugs? I mean really...

1. they sell pants for a prize similar to a faction battleship
2. they set the prize of real life clothing in comparison with their pixel creations
3. they write devblogs which obviously state that they give a **** on their customers
4. they aren't capable of addressing the most primary concerns of their customers
5. they can't even answer a simple question

Sober-minded people wouldn't act like that. Seriously. Wink

It could be so simple. Please CCP read closely: ARE YOU GOING TO BE INTRODUCING NON-VANITY ITEMS INTO THE DAMN NEX STORE OR NOT?
The only thing you need to do is to answer this simple question.

Instead of writing a devblog telling that you give a damn **** on us you could have brought this to a sudden end.
But maybe we are all wrong. Let us try to follow your logic behing the prizing of your insanity store...

Thats what you think CCP:

virtual pants = virtual battleship
virtual pants = real pants

and now following your logic down the road:

real pants = real battleship
real battleship = virtual battleship

You know what that means, don't you? It would mean that a virtual battleship sold by your insanity market would have to cost proportionally the same as a real battleship.

Not to mention that you just want to tell us that you buy real-life pants which are as expensive as a real-life battleship.ugh

If you're not on drugs I really don't know what is wrong with you guys. Maybe you should get some serious help from a psychotherapist. Sad

-----*sarcasm off*-----

I'm really concerned about all of this. I'm already seeing the day coming when CCP introduces non-vanity items. This will be the day I will definitely quit. Actually I don't think that CCP will give us the answers we are demanding. Hopefully their hangover isn't going to be too hard so that they can realize what they have done.

This is a very sad day for all of us capsuleers.Crying or Very sad
