CCP, if you can't read these posts and make some sense of it all, you've clearly lost touch.

Originally by: Calypsa Aeurelieus
Almost 50 pages already. People can claim that people are over reacting, this is my first post in the comments, and will be my only one until further Dev. statements.

To the guys/gals who say players are over-reacting... let them over-react. They are paying for something that has become, for many of them, an integral part of their daily routine. It's the small creature comforts in life like our hobbies and our friends that allow us to plow through all the other crap in life.

The bottom line is people are truly disheartened. I'm not saying EVE will fail, in fact I hope it doesn't, but the MT clearly isn't the right answer for "this" community. I've came from other MMO's based on MT that have a crowd that is accepting of such.

Look at where EVE has came from since it's beginning. It's made leaps and bounds, and made a fine profit from it. However it is human nature to always want more, and sometimes the developers, and perhaps the players in some cases have to realize that less can be more.

All in all I hope that things will eventually cool down. MT is truly a game breaking mechanic for THIS game. Maybe not for all, but for EVE it can't happen. It will upset the natural circle of things. I do hope the developers at EVE will take this weekend to think long and hard about what steps they can take to rectify all that has happened.

They have created something that could be easily stopped by showing us proof that MT won't happen for non-vanity items. Also, my one post in the other huge thread was in regard to Zulu's blog. Honestly Zulu, I don't know you from Adam, and I'm not going to call you names, curse you out, or anything, but you and I both know you totally avoided what needed to be said, whether it was because you are hoping it wipes away, or you were told you couldn't say anything. You are high enough in the structure that your input counts, but your position isn't much without a crowd base. EVE is your corporations primary source of income at this point, and until the other games you are trying to develop become successful (1 of which is highly dependent on EVE remaining successful), we are your main source of funding. Don't neglect that now, or later.

This is a firm player base and tight community that has been built. Players young and old are uniting under one banner, I'm half tempted to go thru this thread and the other main thread to see how many have un-subbed. Perhaps if you have 400k total accounts (Heard this in a recent interview), you can afford to lose some... but if you are like most business you run on a profit margin with prospected good and bad quarters, and I can assure you that if you follow thru with MT your quarters will continue to go down.

I've already made this post much longer than I originally planned, not out of anger, or hate, but simply out of pittance. I've never found a community quite like EVE and it would be a shame to see it go to waste for the sake of money. In the end, money can only get you so far... remember your roots CCP, remember the promise of a new breed of an MMO, and continue to live up to that promise even in the face of the F2P MT MMO's that are springing up all over.

Regards,

Calypsa

Zulu, now that I've calmed down to a certain extent, some food for thought.

Fearless:
I think a lot of people expected you to attempt to paint the leaked newsletter as a harmless non-official discussion platform. Unfortunately, you almost constantly underestimate your customers. There was a lawyer in CCP Pann's vague non-apology apology thread who spotted immediately what that newsletter was: a vehicle to convey executive decisions and policy in the form of a discussion of that policy. You claim that CCP Soundwave and CCP Diagoras were given the task of taking two opposing viewpoints. That may well be true, or not, but it doesn't change the fact that Soundwave's point of view was extremely insulting to us, your customers. Calling us the Golden Goose was not something that made him many friends. Thinking about charging for minor services such as an increase to the the 50 ship fitting limit borders on extortion. What next? Pay to log in with less wait, perhaps?

But the biggest omission on your part was your and CCP's almost constant refusal to give a straight answer to the pressing question of whether we would indeed be paying for in-game advantages. Instead you used ridiculous marketing language "messaging" to avoid giving a straight answer. This is what made even those less able to read between the lines think that the newsletter was more than just a discussion platform for internal strategy.

You need to answer that question directly and not try to placate people with long, empty sentences. Players are angry because they already pay a fair amount to CCP each year, and to us, it only looks like you want even more.

The Noble store:
Your analogy with real life clothes was simply vacuous. Virtual clothes and vanity items in a computer game are not real. There is no comparison. The prices at which you released the initial articles were simply ridiculous. You wrote about a conflict between expectations and reality in that passage, but what you didn't write about was how you managed to actually arrive there. How could you have such a level of disconnect with us, your customers? Do you really need thousands of people cancelling their subscriptions to see that you've lost touch?

And all of this doesn't touch any of the other sore points that have been raised:
- Why was CQ released in such a poor technical state, so bad that it's enough to physically damage relatively modern hardware and making dual or more client installations unplayable?
- Why was the old hanger view completely deleted when it was originally supposed to be optional? You know many, many of us do not want CQ, or want it as an option at best. And yet you persist in the name of some vague immersion principle that looks more like you forcing your (lack of) vision and competence on us because we wouldn't otherwise use it.
- What is the final charge and terms for 3rd party developers using your undocumented API, what you now call a "free" service? Vacuous claims of needing to control your brand sound more like you trying to smother the same player creativity that you so vaunted only a short while ago.
- Why are we still waiting for an explanation of how the initial launch of the new forums managed to pass a supposed security audit?
- Why are you banning players who have done so much for the community instead of listening to their well founded anger?

You make a big thing about being fearless and transparent, but in the end you come across as yet another generic corporate game studio unable to find its way to the toilet, let alone formulate a vision that is innovative while you bumble from one technical failure to the next, repeating empty mantras to avoid listening to the wishes of your customers. That is us, by the way, or in my case, was us.

This game was about spaceships, but now all it seems to be is about drama and obfuscation.

I wish you lots of luck in the future. This is your NGE moment, and you're going to need it.

CCP, please go through any and all internal communications and replace the word "customers" with "community"; we are Eve, never forget that.

Here is how things probably are:

CCP have gone out to raise capital to pay for the staff they need for DUST and what not. In doing so, they drew up a business plan with the help of some third rate bankers and consultants with little or no knowledge of the subtleties of this particular MMO.

In order to pay for their financing they now need to deliver on this business plan, which includes increasing profits in a hockey stick-like manner over time. RMT would be a key part of making these profits real.

So in other words, there is no turning back...

Come on give me some brownie points for hitting the nail on its head! ugh lol

I decided to put my money where my mouth is. I cancelled my 3 subs today. They run out in varying amounts of time, but unless there are some substantial changes, I won't be resubbing. If you're trying to figure out which accounts were mine, here's the feedback I sent when I cancelled:

"Please read http://eve.beyondreality.se/NeXCQResponse.html

I wasn't really playing much anymore, just changing skills occasionally while life kept me busy.

There have been other complaints in the past about the game, and I've more or less ignored them. I wasn't a bitter vet, I was willing to see how things turned out.

Turns out, I feel like CCP has completely lost touch with their own game. I don't like the direction things are going in. I thought walking in stations would be great, but instead I get captains quarters (I play alone?) and very expensive microtransactions.

Maybe I'll resub if things seem like they're improving. If the past year is any indication, probably not."

It's been a lot of fun playing with everyone in Eve. Here's to hoping CCP can get their house in order.

Clearly correct, but the hockey stick formation is unlikely to occur if half the subscribers leave and the remainder don't ALL purchase the hell out of those noble exchange items (continuously, for years).

Really disappointed with CCP, in the past they have provided an excellent service with great communication to their players, suddenly this has totally changed round for no apparent reason its almost as if you just don't care about us any more. Normally i would defend CCP, but in this instance its really hard to.

Also while were comparing eve items to RL, i presume if we spend $60 dollers on a vanity item in Eve we will get a matching item for real life.

Why are virtual goods being compared to real goods as an example, i might spend $60 on pants in real life, but i would be hard pressed to spend $16 on pretend pants in a pretend game, no mater how ****ing cool they looked Laughing

$1,000 jeans. Laughing

Originally by: CCP Zulu
Do you have any specific brands? Did you choose it because it was better quality than a no-name brand? Assume for a short while that you are wearing a pair of $1,000 jeans from some exclusive Japanese boutique shop. Why would you want to wear a pair of $1,000 jeans when you can get perfectly similar jeans for under $50?

If I buy $1,000 jeans, I get a pair of jeans. If I buy 15 monocles for (15x70) $1,000 I get... absolutely nothing. As per the TOS/EULA, all in game items are CCP's property, not mine. So I really do get nothing. I will have nothing new. Nada, zilch, zero, not an ounce of new property. $1,000 out the window. I will not be wearing them either, a character will, which isn't my property either.

I understand paying a subscription fee to meet and have fun with the people of eve, but why would I want to give you $1,000 for 15 monocles? U MAD?

Also, are you planning to sell power-items (ie non-vanity items) in the NeX?

They know people have invested a lot of time in their characters and would be reluctant to leave.

Doubt you'll hear much until Monday now and by that time they'll be hoping that much of the anger has exhausted itself.

Items that give advantages are coming, why because they could easily have cleared up this mess if they wised to do so by answering that question and they've had plenty of time to do so.

Also the timing of this thread was deliberate so that you'll wear yourself out debating it in this thread so that by Monday hopefully you care less about it.

Items that give advantages generally sell better than just plain cosmetics ones, we call it greed they'll just say that's business.

CQ is still forced, old hanger view or mass quit
MT still not confirmed to be vanity only, confirm that no cash shop item will be usable outside of a station
No confirmation that incarna will be optional, if i dont want to be a ***got in station, then don't make me, let me dock, let me spin ships and reload guns, let me undock, if i want to get out of my pod i will if not STFU and sell eve to a company that will care.
