I am in shock over the poor communication coming out of CCP already. You already, through a very embarrassing post, made it clear that you made a mistake and ask for time. That's fair enough, at least you admitted your mistake. This is then followed up by something that is completely void of any kind of message that seeks to re-conciliate with the community. I can't for the love of me, find the overall theme or 'message' that you wanted to bring in this post, other than "we know better than you". The examples given are either a complete joke or they are simply not applicable at all.

I honestly had expectations of CCP's communication department being up to the task of delivering a message that can actually be understood by the community. What we got was a brief summary of the issues that were picked up, there were comments on the elephant in the room and then an explanation that everyone suffers from this problem. I think your supposed message was that you were "testing the waters and trying to provoke thoughts internally", which would be a genuine believeable excuse if it wasn't for the wording that was used throughout your newsletter. Even the title, "Greed is good?", which you tried to excuse as being the provoking thought and theme of the newsletter is totally wrongfully worded. "Greed is good", with or without the question mark is loaded favourably in for these microtransactions. I have another suggestion: "Is greed really good?".

A highschool student could explain the perception it gives people based on the original wording and given the thought my own department in real life puts into the wordings we use, even in internal communication, this was deliberate and with an agenda. The end result is the same, you want to move into micro-transactions despite having promised the CSM previously that it wouldn't go beyond vanity. The mere fact you are discussing it shows that the business culture of CCP is winning over the responsible and good judging culture. I am in shock.

Recommendation for next time you post a blog that attempts to defuse this situation.

- Define your message, don't be afraid of repeating it
- Know your audience
- Don't use metaphors

Hey all. To clarify this blog, its intent was to address two topics and two topics only;

1. What Fearless is and the nature of its content
2. The pricing strategy behind the NeX store

I do realize there are other concerns you have and those will be addressed, but doing it all at the same time would make the messaging tricky and muddled and not allow for a focused discussion. I understand a lot of the frustration going around but if we want to discuss then we need to do so in a constructive and focused manner.

Thanks,

I do not believe a single word you or any of the other devs post right now. give us a difinitive awnser on the subject of NEX items remaining only vanity items or not by tuesday or lose more accounts.

P.S. Perpetum online is pretty fun and I have found a replacement game to go to.

OK, have a free constructive comment:

Make Nex prices so a single PLEX makes a meaningful improvement for the player i.e., set he prices so a whole set of clothes (feet + bottom + top) = less than 3500 AUR.

That would be ludicrously high compared to industry MT standards, but would be an affordable sacrifice -one PLEX for vanity, why not? People gives them even for charity. But, three plexes for three pieces of virtual cloth? No, no and no.

Specially since we ****ing paid for the development of that crap you will not allow us to use without billing us THREE TIMES

CCP has been getting pretty good at getting as close as they could to a line without crossing it. This whole fiasco not only crossed the line, but is pushing a large portion of the eve community over the line aswell. I stopped my subscriptions after they felt the need to bend over nullsec. My plexes will be running out in a couple weeks, and I will not be buying anymore until EVERY issue is addressed, and not BS'd or merely pushed under a rug in a hope we just "forget about it".

CCP Zulu, as much as I agree with you regarding the public thrashing of the CCP employees (which I participated in) due to the lack of context surrounding the newsletter, this devblog fails to address every single other issue repeated over and over again by :

1) a sizeable portion of your playerbase - a good part of which are trolls but hey...
2) your very own past and present CSM.
3) probably a good part of your own employees.

And no, I'm not calling you out on this. Like CCP Manifest and Pann, you probably only are a PR person thrown to the wolves, and you don't deserve the hate. But your upper management surely does.

[edit : I suggest you point your management out to these posts for an insight into what is actually wrong if they don't have a clue already :
- Seleene's blog.
- Meissa on recent CCP's ****-ups.
- A very detailed point-by-point analysis of what went wrong by a former CSM.
- Dierdra's post which also nails it.
- Jade Constantine's post which should be quoted to death pretty much everywhere.]

And your DevBlog failed to answer any of the questions we the community want answered right now. So don't ask us to be clam or back down or otherwise tolerate your complete and utter incompetence. If you're so out of touch with the community that you answer a topic partially without even answering the more important questions we're asking, then you should go find another job. Obviously you can't do your current one too well. =/

Fine. The real issues are unresolved. CCP Pann promised answers, you did't deliver.

Six accounts have been cancelled after this failure to deliver and it is done already. Good luck with WoD and DUST 514. So many games come and go these days that you will likely need all the luck you can get.

All the best,

Incredibly dissappointed at the response recieved. The main issues were completely ignored and as a paying customer I feel completely insulted at the arrogance displayed by CCP. Unless these issues have been dealt with and an apology has been released I can not honestly see this situation improving in any way.

1.) OK you explained the Memo, great. I didn't put to much stock in it an figured it was some tool like this you guys use and I can understand that. But you know people are not going to believe you at this point, you need strong actions to be posted on what your going to do as well as the excuse. Then act upon said actions swiftly and surely.

2.) The Pants Analogy=Pathetic
You know why?

Cause the jeans I pay 1000$ for in RL I GET TO WEAR IN RL. Some people still appreciate the fact they have a RL outside this game... your forgetting that.

So to sum up you explained away the letter, gave us a horrible reason why store prices are out of whack ( or inline with ANY other MMO following this model) and ABSOLUTLY told us NOTHING about what your going to do about the real issues here... Great...

I love Incarna, I know what your doing with it and behind the scenes with the game. I know you have a plan that doesn't rotate around taking even more money from us, but your not confirming that for me or anyone here whatsoever, Period. So be prepared for more angry customers and I'm very sure more Un-SubsRolling Eyes

Daemus Ohmiras

This was extremely insulting. I would have rather been left waiting than receive this type of response.

"In almost the same instant as we deployed Incarna - which by the way is one of our more smooth and successful expansions, not to mention absolutely gorgeous - an internal newsletter with rather controversial topics addressed leaked out."

The second sentence in you are offering up this? Is this more of a "these are not the droids you are looking for move" or just a "we have chosen to ignore the technical support section of the site when deciding how successful of a launch we had"? Perhaps CCP's idea of success is how likely they feel the new 'shinies' are to bring in the subs of the golems? Likely more than perhaps from the vibes the customers are getting at the moment.

"The opinions and views expressed in Fearless are just that; opinions and views. They are not CCP policy nor are they a reliable source of CCP views as a company."

When I first started reading up on the newsletter, I was giving CCP the benefit of the doubt. This devblog succeeded in me no longer feeling that way. When CCP'ers were making some forum posts that didn't have any solid info I was patiently waiting for CCP to get a real statement out. You succeeded in that with this blog and all this blog says to me as a player is that the company has no intention of being straighforward about the big issue on everyone's mind. We couldn't even get an honest "Nothing official has been decided regarding your concerns over RMT for in-game advantages that affect the way the game was originally built to be played," statement from the blog. I wouldn't feel nearly as upset as I do now after patiently waiting for someone to put something in stone. CCP forums posts have been dodging giving any answers and now a devblog is put out which is just more of blatant disrespect by CCP for its paying customers.

"While its perfectly fine to disagree and attack CCP over policies or actions we take, we think its not cool how individuals that work here have been called out and dragged through the mud due to something they wrote in the internal company newsletter. Seriously, these people were doing their jobs and do not deserve the hate and ****storm being pointed at them."

Why wasn't this in a devblog an hour after the leaked newsletter? There was never a clear statement made that reflected the above so why would you expect your customers to assume it was the way that it is? Any mudslinging you feel has come upon CCP employees over their contributions to the newsletter are just an example of what happens when customers are not given concrete explanations in hour 1 of a crisis. While I don't condone the hate that has popped up for CCP employees so far, you let a fire burn ALOT longer than it needed to. You didn't have to provide answers to all the concerns, except the one over whether or not the newsletter was real and what it actually represents if it is real. Either it is what you say it is now and consists of just internal brainstorming, or you needed some time to sort out your story because of what it really is. Notice the questioning of your honesty right there? Yeah, I wonder where that is coming from? ... and no, at this point you shouldn't be expecting respect in any form beyond the common human decency to refrain from use of excessive expletives.

"Pricing structure"

As ludicrous as your comments on the current NEX pricing were, I am electing to ignore the smokescreen. CCP tagged forum posters consistently bring up the NEX prices in threads that are primarily about the newsletter. Next time, show the respect of making a separate devblog to address two completely separate issues. Diversion tactic, laziness, or complete lack of thought on how it would come across to your customers that have had current pricing shoved down their throat at every possible moment? I have honestly never seen a game company so determined to get people complaining about something before.

It's clear that CCP has moved forward with their plans of being a big corporation. Every game big developer has taken steps like this. It's sad, but it was only a matter of time that CCP did the same. Microtransactions are only the first step. It's all about money now. What a shame.

A few points...

First of all, I myself have a huge problem with threats being directed at CCP's staff directly. It's absolutely ******ed and I wish people could voice their opinions and concerns in a constructive but direct way, instead of kindergarten stylee...

But then... dude, seriously. What this blog actually says is :

"After a long internal discussion (at least that's what I hope happened), we here at CCP decided that answering the question "will we enforce P2W int the near or far future" is going to lose us customers, so we are not going to answer it at all. We don't really care too much about our veteran playerbase and we'll do what we want anyway. Have a nice day"

It's a sad thing to see happening, but apparently thats how **** is going to be.

Thx for all the fun CCP, you had the best MMO there was to be found, and I regret **** turning out this way.

With a blog like that, you guys at CCP have only dug a deeper hole. You have not answered any of the concerns, rather, that blog comes off as arrogant. Pricing in-game clothes as much as real clothes? Ships flying backwards after the previous patch? I think you guys have really lost touch with reality, let alone the player population. I'm not really angry at all, but if you think I will continue to be disrespected by a company that fails to remember how important the paying customers are, you would be mistaken.

Not to insult you, but I think you are really out of touch with reality. You are equating a real life commodity, something you can touch and feel and posses to a piece of digital clothing. Here let me hit you with the reality stick. This is a game, it is intangible, it is not our property, and can be taken away from us at any time. I can't choose to say, hmm, let me take my digital pants with me when I leave the game. I don't own the rights to my digital hip huggers, CCP does. So I am paying you real life money to something you own. How is that fair? If you're going to sell stuff, make the prices realistic. When I say realistic I'm saying you should be in the popper proportion to the scale of the game. I'm willing to pay a plex for a RL Quafe shirt, but not for a digital shirt you own and I can't take with me.

Lol, that was funny. The blog was a joke, right? No? Really? You're kidding.

I'm afraid you are sadly out of touch with your game and its community. Clearly your definition of 'smoothly' is different than mine in any event.

Let me help you out here, since you apparently cannot read people very well, even when they (literally) spell it out for you:

Your players feel like you told them "WE HATE YOU". Your blog has a tone which only seems to reinforce with us that this is your sentiment.

Also, though you see us as $1,000 jean wearing cash cows, we will walk rather than be treated as such. I do hope you got the irony of your blog though. Mentioning real-life pants when you sell imaginary computer game pants at the cost of several pair of their real life counterparts.

All I'm going to say, since so many have said so much already is this:

The main problem facing CCP over the last several years has been one of communication. The buildup to this crisis was well documented; that it happened should come as no surprise. This response proves, without a doubt, how deep the communication deficiency penetrates.

My only hope is that there are still people at CCP who are as angry about this as we are, and that they try to do something from the inside.
