Edited by: Tengu Skunkworks on 24/06/2011 03:19:45 I am fairly new to this game, so I really need to know.
Does everyone complain like this after every patch?
Or is this (perhaps deserved) massive attack exceptional as a response to a patch release?
I must confess, I did not remember the response to Apocrypha, Dominion and Incursion being this vehement |

This is above and beyond. There's always post-expansion complaining, but this is like a Sony Online Entertainment board right now. |

In this case it's due to CCP moving towards a pay to win model with subscription fees. (see apology thread) And much about them slapping the alpha for a new game onto eve for testing (see performance issue threads) |

Yes. Every single change, no matter how small, good, or bad leads to complaining.
There are some valid complaints (megatransactions for clothes), and some that are just pointless whining.
This memo leak is another issue that is a valid concern.
Incarna itself is cool, even if there are no gameplay additions. The sale of virtual goods ("microtransaction" is clearly not the right word here) and how it is being handled is something that's bothering me and a lot of people, though. |

no they dont. Just CCP really screwed up on the expansion, customer care, MT, Aurum, bugs, Min requirements, their mission statement, bugs, CQ ad PR. By far their biggest fup and fu to date. |

There is complaining every expansion and patch. The difference this time is that the complaining is about truly valid issues. |

The response to this patch is particularly bad because a) incarna adds no gameplay functionality b) incarna removes functionality c) incarna damages computers d) the prices in the NeX are insulting and most importantly e) the release of a document that reveals that CCP sees its playerbase as cows to be milked for as much as they can get out of us. And the kicker is that Incarna still has the usual assortment of bugs and sloppy work accompanying most of CCP's releases lately |

This is an extreme response to what amounts to an afront to the community in general not just because of broken promises regarding Incarna, not optional, poor performance, removed immersion & reduced usability, but also because of the extreme greed & cynicism of the virtual good store (MT) & now the leaked PDF.
A hell of a lot is going on right now, new or not I suggest you take an interest & read the forums, some of the oldest & most valuable players in the community are making some very interesting post regarding the current state of EvE & our future as a community. |

In terms of forum chaos, "hey guys, about this critical system file on your harddrives..." and warp to 0 were both pretty noisy. It's difficult to quantify though, I'm sure as hell not about to go count posts |

Yeah pretty much.
They complain that CQ hasn't been implemented.
They complain that CQ was implemented.
They complain when told there's going to be MT.
They complain when they can't afford the MT.
They complain when there's going to be more MT.
It's pretty much a given that any change in any mmo will be cried about on forums by a select few who think they represent the majority. Seen the same **** in every MMO I've played since Ultima Online back in '98. |

I think the part where they refer to future DUST players who choose not to engage in MT as freeloaders was telling. |

Nope.
What you usually hear is nerf-whining, bug-weeping, feature-waaahhing. These are irritating, healthy sounds. Good games occasionally produce these sounds, while crappy games produce silence or whimpers.
What you hear right now is the sound of betrayal, and it's not about software, it's about philosophy. It can quickly turn into death-cries. |

Yeah, people complain but actually this is worse than complaining and looking for fixes.. this is a breaking of trust for many. In the past most peole thought the CEO would have the best interest of the game at Heart, and that mistakes were just matters of institutional errror and incompetence. The leaked letter showed the true demeanor... we weren't an audience to be entertained by everbetter content..we were teenagers at the local mall seeing the movie they had for us so they could fleece us with expensive popcorn. Actually, I don't think that people feel that way about the employees in general.. they're liked but they're hamstrung with some leaders that have other things on their mind than making money by beinng as entertaining as possible. |

Well, honestly...
I've been around with eve since '05, thus making it six years now. I've been trough almost all of their expansions (save Castor and Exodus - i joined up by exodus for free trial, which was early '05 then finally subscribed in late '05 once the Cold War was in full reign and kept at least one account active from ever since) - this is by far the worst reaction to the new expansion i've ever seen. Sure, there were always negative feedback by players on new expansion (as there will always be someone unhappy with the changes, such is the trait in all of humans, to resist changes - although it varies from person to person - inertia is the basic property of all things, living or not).
What's even more strange, i find myself in the ranks of those angry with the new expansion (for my own reasons, but yet some of them are shared with other people). This is something i've never done throughout the whole 6 years of playing eve.
So, shortly - no, this one is unusual in terms of amounts of unhappyness. |

EDIT: To be honest Im not sure how people responded to the major changes they made back in 03 when they did an emergency remodel of the entire PVP system. I came in in the end of 03 and this is far and away the most intense and wide spread out rage I have seen. |

Was the main thrust of the CEO at the time.. how can we make this better or was the main thing on his mind, how he could get more money from each exhisting subscriber ? --- thats the part that makes you wonder... personaly i'm ok with MT as the plex sales have show the game can handle it...........as long as the goal isn't more isk.plex sales but more base subscribers with the other income just happening to follow. |
