Lets say that the new incoming crowd of players loves the idea of being able to purchase wtfpwn guns from the NEX. They buy said guns and what's left of the player base happily ganks said noob and loots the new $hiney wtfpwn guns.

The first thing that is going to happen is that newb is going to raise holy hell that he paid cash for those guns and it isn't fair that he lost them so quickly and will refuse to buy more because its a waste of money.

Do you think CCP will protect the old dinosaur player that is damaging its new revenue stream or will rush in to protect the bottom line?

What actions do they have available to protect that revenue stream from drying up?

Nahh if they're going that route, i.e. "i win button" on NeX, that means they'll eventually have to make stuff invulnerable and can't be looted or won't drop, kind'a like WoW, you get some repair bills for your items, you end up in a graveyard, but you lost nothing of the gear you have equipped, which will be a complete shift of what Eve is. but then that's just a scenario.Arrow

If you dont stand up and protest this you must want eve to die.

Cause that is the end result of not speaking up now before its too late and they are already on the road to ruin.

You can stop it now if you make it known now.

Right now they are thinking they will lose only a small percentage of the the subs. You need to make it count by making it seem like they will lose huge percentages.

i think we've run out of constructive things to say/most of the american time zone guys are heading to bed around this time. without people to keep this thing alive, it might drop to page three.

Exactly. After the grizzled veterans quit, the supply of materials and manufactured goods will dry up. Just like the real world economies, a small percentage of players control a huge majority of the market. Megacorporations "make" the game.

When the only players EVE has left are the twitchy FPS-kiddies with no attention spans who just want to blow things up, they'll have no options. No ores, no minerals, no blueprints, no ships, and no goods transportation. The player run supply-side will be effectively gone, or at least a large majority of it will. So what happens then? Real money for basic ships? NPC factions selling ships? Real money for skillpoints? CCP would have to intervene in the economy somehow, and that creates more problems than it solves.

The essential problem becomes this.

If we have to pay for non-vanity items and other trinkets... what is our subscription paying for in light of those items existing?

Funny you mention it

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=topics&f=252

used to link to the "new" broken forums, after that poopoo went down this link started just redirecting to current forums.

BUT for the last couple of days it gives

"You do not have permission to view this directory or page."

If they really are going in this direction, they'll nuke these old forums and try to erase their history so the nubs they attract won't see the bloodstains on the walls.

So this is indeed their clean up run before the sale. After everyone protesting is gone they will just move the bent over players to the new forums and start the new EVE.

It makes me sick, but that's how these things go.

I think one of the biggest things CCP seems to forget is how important single players can be in this game.

I've seen a lot of corps fall apart when the CEO or main FC decided to leave. Eve is a sandbox and if you are in it to PVP, the game content can be driven by a few key players. If these key players start to leave, the game experience as a whole diminishes.

Losing a subscription from mission runner johnny in high-sec isn't going to cause eve any problems. Losing alliance leaders, CEO's, directors and most importantly FC's is going to result in a reduced game experience universe wide.

In the P2P model being touted in this thread...you could lose millions of players and those remaining could still have a similar game experience day to day. In Eve, you lose a SINGLE key player and 3000 people have to move their stuff back to empire.

Eve is a business for some.

Eve is a community for others.

What does a good business and a good community have in common?

Good people, and trust in one another.

ISK is the least valuable thing in the game, and trust is the easiest thing to lose. Once the trust is gone, there really isn't much left is there?

Who cares about FCs, i want assplosions, fast... Arrow turn nulsec into a barren dessert, only roving cayotes here and there... noone will care much about corporation structures, just the pwnz!!! oh wait, that's BGO, see red, kill it, and F2P too... :))

i am fed up of the Sony bleh - please quit with that
asking the same question over and over is repetive and tiresome
yellow is making my head hurt, please ask Minigin how to use green for a while at least

in the mean time for a break (while at work) i have been looking at serious external sites.

found the following that was interesting:
interview and insight on dev

apparently they used to consult a CSM
they were working on the 'little things' in development

what a shame so few 'little' things got fixed and instead we got:
  • a door (reminds me a lot of Quake 4 freezing on me way back when - but as doors go its more interesting than the one on the front of my house)

  • a monocle (its actually quite attractive, just a little heavy to wear in bed and i wished for a wider selection of colour choices)

  • a new shopping experience and currency (neither of which was really needed, but for .07 aur i could buy a pair of underpants that i could wear outside of my trousers.....i live in hope one day)

  • some dodgy turret icons (turrets themselves are purdy, but on the locked target are pretty hard to distinguish from one another, but do add a certain gamble factor into deactivation)

  • a really warm gpu / cpu (actually not too bad as currently it is winter here and it is saving on me having to run the aircon to warm the house up)

You know I almost came around to Chribba's perspective last night.

There is so much cash to be made and laundered if Eve goes RMT and you can get involved in the market via a site license.

Brings all the RMT'ers into the fold and makes them official CCP resellers of items/isk.

Still no commitment from CCP never to introduce non-vanity MT items, and return the old docking port (WIS needs to be 100% optional as it's clearly just a way to sell MT, not to mention how inefficient it is as a UI)? My cancelled sub's remaining time is running down, and other MMOs are looking more and more appealing by the hour.
