It's not a matter of representing official policy or not. The fact that it's on the table and communicated in a NEWSLETTER proves that it is indeed the route CCP is going. They nerfed fittings recently and in the newsletter they mention charging RL$ for more fittings. There are multiple posts describing this better than mine - so read moar.

Then why are there two sides to the debate in the newsletter then?... If it was cannon, why pray tell, are they still in discussion?

I have no idea - the Director of PR & Communications was not involved with this, maybe thats the reason

so Pann what your really apologizing for is that we aren't as stupid as people in the book 1984 and didn't just accept the new changes as part of the world of eve and feel like it always was there. I find your apology to be deceptive and worded to make people feel like you guys apologized for being sheist ****s while you really didn't apologize for the actual content ot changes.

**** you and your ****ty little company. go sell out to activision and get it over with.

My comment may be lost amongst the countless pages of replies that will be coming, but I should note my own opinions.

I have been playing EVE for several years, several expansions, and while living on several different continents. EVE has always been a social interaction tool for myself, as well as a detachment from reality. While I was a soldier in RL, I was an economist and industrialist in EVE.

Now I am a businessman, I no longer fight in RL, so I fight in EVE, while also continuing my industrialist ways. The way that I personally see these new micro-transactions is greed pure and simple. As state so many times already, the model for microtransactions has created a category of gaming industry that is all about money pit. I pay $15 a month to play EVE, if I stop paying the $15 I don't get to play EVE. I spend $300 over a few weeks in EVE on EVE in game items and I quit EVE I have then basically thrown $300 into the trash.

Microtransactions are nice for the people who are able to afford to play games in that manner, using real money to supplement for time, dedication, or even skill. However, and I would consider myself a part of this group, it is economically irresponsible to ask some consumers to buy in game items to stay on par with others in the game IF they are not finanically stable. What I mean is poor people who can afford a sub but not 2 or 3 will see these microtransactions are a way to get more money out of the rich and to unfavor the poor.

Moving away from that, Incarna has introduced another issue that I am seeing as the worst. Graphics requirements. I got evemails the day Incarna deployed..."sorry man, client won't load anymore, requirements are too much now." I have had 4 of my friends, my old friends for years, tell me that they have to quit simply because they just can't get into the game because the game asks too much now. Me? I have 3 machines I have been using for a few years now, 2 are now unable to open the client, and the 3rd (even as new as she is, she is just a laptop) starts getting hot as the sun when I dock....WHEN I DOCK!

My end point...CCP, I understand you want to increase revenues for further expansion...every business wants that. You must, however, not forget that you have continued to provide an amazing game to multiple levels of gamers for years. Those who power play with multiple accounts (thus multiple revenue on one source already), those with machines that just weren't quite what you would call high speed (some outdated machines could work fine with EVE), those whos wallets can only afford the sub fee monthly, and the many other pilot types with issues must be heard and heeded. You cannot move forward in your business if you play on snubbing massive amounts of your long time customers, thats horrible business ethic. Especially in todays market.

Also, I would love to get my hands of the financial statements of CCP and see where their getting these ideas that they NEED to create new revenues at the expense of #'s of consumers being dissatisfied.

Captains quarters need to be optional, plain and simple. I'm sure there are a lot of people who use a lower end computer to run multiple clients on low settings, with another good one to run the main account. Making captains quarters mandatory messes this up a lot. I've got an old P4 that can do 2 clients no problem, but it has a hard time dealing with rendering the quarters. Don't get me wrong, I love what you have out now for it, and can't wait until the other races ones are put in, Just don't force this on us.

As for the NeX store or whatever its called, Everybody needs to shut up about it. Last I checked, you didn't HAVE to buy from it. Prices to high? Tough, guess you cant buy from it. Things like this aren't just going to be handed to you for next to nothing. A monocle costs more then a dreadnaught? Yep, but its a one time purchase. That dreadnaught probably wont see next week. That monocle will see your entire eve career. What CCP COULD do, in addition to this already OPTIONAL feature, is introduce blueprints for the items on the store, tie them into PI or something (tritanium doesn't make sense for a shirt). As far as im concerned, as long as this store stays on the non-game play affecting side of EVE, they can set the prices at whatever the hell they want. This game has bigger problems then an optional vanity store.

Am loving the Hypocrisy of:

"I'm protesting in game advantage for money by cancelling my multiple account"

You do realise that multiple accounts is an in game advantage that you pay for?

Hypocrisy? Are you really that blind? Here, let me explain it for you:

- Blueprints are seeded on the market for ISK. You need a POS and fuel to research it. You need to mine materials to build it. Then you have a product ready for invention or ready to be used in LP store's blueprints as a base item for production of the faction mods.

Parties involved:
- Blueprint researchers
- Manufacturers
- Planetary Interaction (POS modules and fuel)
- Ice miners (POS fuels)
- Highsec ore miners (low-end T1 materials)
- 0.0/Wormhole miners (high-end T1 materials + Morphite)
- Mission runners (LP store for faction mods)
- Inventors

Now fast forward to MT system:

- Blueprints for things that have alternatives in the existing production lines are seeded on NEX for cash.
* Blueprint researchers get screwed (not profitable to research) >>> Planetary Interaction get screwed (BP researchers don't consume POS modules and fuel)... hell even DUST get screwed even before it goes live (no initiative to set up or fight for a useless PI colony) >>> Ice miners get screwed (ice fuel lost a POS market) >>> Inventors get screwed and datacore market collapses >>> exploration get screwed (data interfaces are made from COSMOS/exploration materials)

Depending on the quality and performance of the MT item:
Mission runners get screwed (LP store item prices failscade)

If you seed a whole module/ship in the store you'll kill ore miners and manufacturers and collapse the whole economy too.

It's not about what you can get for cash or with multiple accounts... it's about destroying every single industrial profession in EVE with one MT swing. You need effort to maintain multiple accounts, you need planning, spreadsheets, calculations, observation of the market, hauling/logistics, business agreements with miners, your own POS,... (the list goes on and on) to be able to use those accounts in their full capacity and it actually boosts the economy and helps out those who are playing a different type of the game. With MT in place, one can be just another rich bastard with no life that will conveniently cash out his "production line" with no effort at all while selfishly monopolizing production to the point where other players find it unprofitable or not fun to engage in any of the industrial activities.

Please tell me that those two things are the same.

fake edit:

dear ccp,
You could not possibly sell to us, with aur or isk or waffles, that you didnt see this coming. If you really had Phd iclanders on your staff, and they did not tell you that this would happen, I would like to know why they still have a job working with CCP. Although the ability to drop rl cash to pelvic thrust my chars into a titan is hilarious, how many titan pilots will get mad when their years upon years of training means little to nothing. What about the farmers spending valuable game time grinding standings. How about the majority of your player base that feels completly lied to. You didnt even leave them a cig or cab fare after you had your way with them.

No troll ccp, serious time, stop thinking, pause, brakes engage, maximum reverse thrust, whatever you must do to slow down your failboat, you gotta do it.

As for being "late", I haven't seen this posted on this forum, and others apparently haven't either. I'm still upset with CCP and this guy in the PDF, but before my assumptions were that CCP was just gonna tell us to HTFU and now I feel there might be hope that they see the light and agree with what we've been saying.

I'll totally agree with your later points, I honestly hope CCP will see the light and agree to make changes. I just don't think they well, and I question that we'll totally believe them when they say it (yes, I went there...)

But last I checked, companies do not print out and distribute glossy internal magazines pointing out potential future developments without spending a LOT of time in backoffices making those visions a definite future. This is more of a "here's the companies future" and how it'll work.

We KNOW Dust will be MT financed. We KNOW Dust will include gold bullets and non-vanity affecting items. Even if CCP decides there will never (at least not in 6 months) be game-influencing MT items in game, Dust will break those promises once you can finance Sov changes through the console platform. Remember, they don't want "freeloading spectators". And really... when you refer to your future F2P customer base as freeloaders... well. Let's just say it doesn't paint a pretty picture of your opinion of them.

I really don't see how CCP can backpedal on any of this... Thus... long delays while crafting a "response".

1. The "CCP employer" expressing his "opinion" is a lead game designer.
That has already removed visibility of faction standings so they can sell them.
That has already moved fittings server side and limited you to 50 so they can sell you more.

Oh, THAT's why they removed visibility of faction standings... so they can sell them.

But this is not CCP actually implementing these plans or anything. /sarcasm

Then 6 months later, SUDDENLY GOLD RIFTER.

I'm fine with a gold rifter that has exactly the same stats as a regular rifter (and that a regular rifter was consumed to produce the gold one)

I'd even argue that this gold rifter pilot is at a distinct disadvantage. Everyone is going to want to blow his ship up really really badly.

Companies grow. They all have life cycles that often follow a similar curve. Part of being a larger company is making profits and there is pretty intense pressure to find new ways of wringing profits from the same customer base. I’m ok with that. But those rules seldom apply to niche markets. This is really a niche game with a bunch of hardcore players. Hardcore gamers are a fickle bunch… if CCP thinks this is a mainstream game to which they can apply “mainstream” marketing ploys to further profit from the loyal fan base, watch what happens to the cash cow. If direct transactions alter pvp balance, I’ll say goodbye and go look to spend my money elsewhere.
