I remember back in october, when T'amber resigned from his alternate position at the CSM and sold his corp, character and stuff in a protest against microtransactions in EVE.

Back then I felt that he was just overreacting. I was sad to see him go as I loved his SOE events, but kinda thought that this was a bit of a brutal reaction to something that wasn't even confirmed...

Besides... Microtransactions for vanity items wouldn't be a big deal... they are MICROtransactions after all...

Well, now we're here, in the GD MegaThread and I'm sitting here thinking. "T'amber, if you still follow the forums... Forgive me for thinking you were being silly, and that I didn't log into the forums to support you back then" Embarassed

For those not familiar with the term:

Quote:
par·ley
verb \ˈpär-lē\

par·leyed par·ley·ing
Definition of PARLEY:
intransitive verb
: to speak with another : confer; specifically : to discuss terms with an enemy

Merriam-Webster FTW.

Poor choice of words CCP Pann. Sorry, not risking my main work computer, or any of my computers for that matter, to damaging coding anymore. Yes, your (CCP's) recurring subscription got me just before the whole CarbonUI fiasco. Now that CQ's here, coupled with a document where what should never even have been brought up as an idea is now supposed to be the new business model (MT for in-game WIN), the camel's back is broken.

Two accounts expired. Main unsub'ed. 'nuff said. Arrow

So I was on massively and they had a link to the now infamous newsletter, which I thought I had already read on evenews24.

But it said something about "missing pages". This peaked my interest so I downloaded it to compare to the first one. There are actually 20 pages in total in the original. It's pretty much the same thing, it appears the pages themselves were not edited, but pages were removed which dropped the context of the remaining pages. So while I'm still upset at those individuals my anger towards CCP as a whole has diminished.

The most notable line is:

DISCLAIMER: The views put forward in this magazine do not reflect general CCP company policies or decisions and are strictly individual opinions, written by CCPers or about CCPers who feel strongly about these issues. This is confidential internal information. Please respect that every company has its trade secrets and that you are privy to those at CCP.

Though it still upsets me that certain individuals at CCP think as outlined in the PDF, I do feel a little better with that simple paragraph. It definitely opens the door for them to fix it, where before I didn't see a chance in hell of that happening.

Compare them for yourself:
EVENews24.com Version
Original Version

The tldr difference is basically this is just asking people within CCP their opinions on the matter and doesn't actually represent any actual plans. I still want confirmation in writing and signed by the CEO himself before I believe anything that CCP says, but I'm a bit less ragequit-y now.

While this doesn't restore my trust/faith in CCP, it damages what little I had to start with in evenews24. Ok, well, I never actually trusted evenews24 at all, but now I definitely won't ever trust them :P

1. The "CCP employer" expressing his "opinion" is a lead game designer.
That has already removed visibility of faction standings so they can sell them.
That has already moved fittings server side and limited you to 50 so they can sell you more.

Is he fired yet?

It's not a matter of representing official policy or not. The fact that it's on the table and communicated in a NEWSLETTER proves that it is indeed the route CCP is going. They nerfed fittings recently and in the newsletter they mention charging RL$ for more fittings. There are multiple posts describing this better than mine - so read moar.

Then why are there two sides to the debate in the newsletter then?... If it was cannon, why pray tell, are they still in discussion?

i wrote my opinion down here, and explained it. This is why I feel completely justified in leaving, CCP.

To say on one hand that microtransaction items would be vanity only, and then... to see an internal doc with the mere THOUGHT of going against that says you cannot (and should not) be trusted.

to get me back, you'll need to act on it. Show us the proof, give us SOLID REASONS to think that it was JUST an opinion piece, and not the idea of an actual direction.

-1 account gone here, for the time being.

CCP must think of its employees as serfs and slaves if they make their opinions and ideas trade secrets.

Does CCP give out shares to their employees and if so how many? Can CCP employees actually pull off voting in bloc for a new board and CEO?

My guess is that's standard boiler plate on all Dev documents if not corp wide. My tech firm clients use something very similar on everything including email.

Still hoping for the best but...

the deafening silence by CCP IMO can only mean one thing: non-vanity items in the NEX shop WILL come. They're just busy finding the "right" wording for it so as to make it sound totally awesome and fun and stuff...

Cheers for this I had assumed that it was the case due to the ? in the title and what not and this confirms it, so I can go back to my internet spaceships in peace.

I fully support CCP hving internal discussions like this one, they should, all possible directions should be discussed by them

And the pledge will have to come from somebody at board level like Hilmar for it to still have any credibility to the player base at this point I think.

They will not say it. Mark my words.

What they might say is: "No we will not (for now) sell any item for RL cash that will give an ingame advantage over other players."

Then 6 months later, SUDDENLY GOLD RIFTER.

In nutshell they will say: "There are no current plans to sell any item for RL cash that will give an ingame advantage over other players and the leaked pdf was not reflecting official company policy."

Back in 2010 when they give us FREE SP refunds, people paniced fearing PLEX for SP.

They said no, not "in this case", so they knew back then.

Oh and I bet BLOODLINE CHANGES will cost about 10 PLEX.

I find the complete lack of all response from CCP extremely telling as to how much they really care about all of your opinions.

Simple fact is they will look at how much money they stand to make from this micro transaction plan versus how much they will lose from having x amount of their user base rage quit.

If it looks like they will make more from screwing us over, they will do it.

You think your option matters? ahahahahahahahaha 60$ for a monocle? ahahahahahahah

Oh CCP, never stop trolling

A note of caution: in the newsletter, the main EVE-affecting section was obviously written up as a 'For' and 'Against', with Touborg on one side in favour of non-vanity MTs, and Turbefield on the other against them. While I agree it's hugely dissatisfying to think they're actually considering it, there's little point in crucifying all of CCP because one guy was asked to write the 'For' side of an argument in a newsletter - to essentially simply state his own personal opinion.

If they come out and say they want to introduce it, fine, I quit too. But if they come out and say it's just one guy's opinion and there are no plans to implement it, don't be in any way surprised.

Yes, presented by the editor as "MT versus design integrity"
Soundwave (the lead designer, remember) was on the side against integrity.

/facepalm

Eve Customers will flex a little, they have, they accepted vanity items in the NEX store, they accepted the PLEX, but game changing MT items, they won't budge on most likely. CCP has a plan, they are executing on it, doesn't matter how far customers flex a little. CCP doesn't care, it is their time table and their demise.

No sense in fighting what is already comming, let em screw it up, it's just a game for us, it is a job for them, which is now at greater risk, we have no risk to take. Let em screw themselves.

I have no problem with this at all, really, I have 110 days remaining, I just hope CCP don't go bankrupt between now and 110 days time, after that, I don't care if they get layoffs. Not my problem really.

I plan to have fun all the way out, if that fun means laughing at CCP and their employees, Fine by me, Just another form of fun.

No sense in being miserable over it, it's not worth it, and neither are CCP.

When the rats trolls leave the game, that is a time to worry, really, it is.

TODO:

1) Play Eve
2) Watch CCP's demise - IN PROGRESS
3) Watch real train wreck to compare with item 2)

im upset that there was'nt one person in the whole of ccp who stood up and said

'NO, are you mad? you can't do this to my game, i love to play it and this would totally spoil it, we can't monetize third party apps now after all the community has done, we can't add MT for items in a new release of eve after they already pay a sub which allowed us to design and develop the expansion to begin with, and we certainly can't destory our player run market by adding in MT items that our players can not build for themselves'

was there no one in ccp that was opposed to this?

i cast a vote of no confidence with ccp

my real worry now is that years of delvelopment and money have been push into this,. and even if ccp were to turn around and address these issues, eve is in for some hard times over the comming year or so, to which i hope it recovers, but hope is all i have.
