Maybe ccp iceland has the friday off,
you know.. a team building day..

So they are motivated for the comming months to have a good working MT store ,
they finaly finish off that fancy Amarr weding dress ( uniseks! )

Last point of the meeting: How many euro's a month should we charge a customer
for sov holding and do we charge log-ins by the minut or the hour

They have no time to pay attention to forums or the game for that mather

I'd like to say that, at one time, I considered CCP to be among the reasons to play this game. I've sunk too many hours into too many games that just... went away. It seems wasteful, to spend so much time on something with nothing whatsoever to show for it a few years later. Then I noticed that there's this scrappy little company from Iceland with a product that's as much a virtual universe than it is game. It's a game for intelligent adults that has succeeded in no small part because it doesn't check off all the items on the list of things that are commonly accepted as necessary for an MMO. It offers a sense of consequence, which in turn creates a sensation of tangibility and permanence.

CCP seemed committed to keeping pace with the times, keeping the game up to date and relevant. I also love the idea of Dust and Incarna. I perceived CCP as the type of company that made its living by creating a quality product, a product that made money not due to clever marketing or accounting tricks, but by being a good, solid product, the type of thing that people naturally want to buy.

Then... Aurum.

Instead of the WiS that I have been looking forward to for years, I get this semi-finished, non-functional room. The only feature that goes along with this room that is even moderately functional is a “Micro”-transaction store. If it was well done, and if I still believed you when said “vanity only”, I probably would have spent some money. It is not well done. It's a blatant, badly implemented money grab, and simply looking at it creates the expectation that functional items will be available for real money sooner rather than later.

I no longer trust you to implement micro-transactions in a way that will not ruin the game. I also require you to demonstrate a willingness to change, to put your customers first, to show me that you can in fact be the company that I believed you to be. The only way to do that is to remove this (ig)Noble Exchange, forever.

Because if I quit, I'm gone, forever. I won't just be done with EvE. I'll be done with MMOs. I've canceled my alt account, as a way of saying “I'm serious”. I will be very sad if I cancel this one, but there is no point in playing if I feel that I am simply wasting my time.

To answer a certain question: No, greed is not good. It is one of the seven deadly sins for a reason.

I can easily imagine people in management blaming this mess on the newsletter. Please don't make that mistake. We can see what is happening to our game; the newsletter simply removed any doubt. It is not the cause, it is simply the confirmation.

There are two ways this can go. When you look back, a few years from now, will you bitterly remember a leak that destroyed your company, or will you tell a tale of accountability, of meeting your mistakes head on in order to rise to the occasion and save everything that we care about here?

I know how I want this tale to end, but the only thing I can even attempt to do to influence that outcome is to tell you this story. The rest is up to you.

Where the hell is the "NO, we will never even consider moving beyond VANITY AUR items" ??? How hard is that to say?

They won't say that, not in a million years. What they will say is:
  • this newsletter was a brainstorming session

  • They cannot promise anything about the future

  • They're very sorry (that they're not sorry) that you found out early

  • It was a draft

  • They will iterate on it

Fixed that for you

Somewhere in High Seas, a frigate has been caught in the sights of lots of pirate ships...

The frigate runs, with the wind behind her, hoping the fight will never happen, hoping the canons aimed at her never get close enough, but alas the wind will not let down. The pirate ships are gaining...

A loud voice bellows, even though shouted by a lone female... "PARLEY.. PARLEY".

The pirate ships know that only true people can shout for Parley, and watch as the frigate lowers its main sails... The pirate ships do likewise ... and a truce falls, the guns stay quiet, conversations are heard.

16 hours later the pirates are still awaiting a response to their proposal... None comes.

SO THEY BLOW IT OUT THE WATER!

Everyone post their sub counts.

As of 7/15, I will be -5 subscriptions. That will be the day my last one runs out.

I'm not playing a game with a subscription fee AND stuff that is behind a paywall. One or the other, not both, that is pure greed. And it is NOT good.

Better dumb the game down for those hopeless Twilight girls if you want money to finish that game, CCP, you aren't getting mine.

Do me a favour, CCP, and watch the trailer for the Trinity expansion.

I started playing just after Apocrypha hit (recognised as the last "excellent" expansion you have produced) and was not around in the days of Trinity. I just watched the trailer for the first time and it almost brings a tear to the eye, both because it looks and sounds amazing, but also because it's sad to see what state the game is in now.

CCP, you guys were awesome. You didn't sell out to anyone. You made the game you wanted to make and you didn't give a flying **** about what was happening elsewhere in the industry. When did that change? When did you stop caring? I believe we can bring the glory days of EVE back by working together, but we need a long term commitment from you that you will drop any plans for microtransactions beyond vanity items, start making AND FIXING internet spaceship content and promise to be honest about your intentions and act with integrity.

If you need some money, increase the subscription rate. I would gladly pay more for the game if I knew it were going towards the future of EVE and not DUST or WoD

First Point: Yes PLEX is a form of MT (here is the important part) >>>>> BUT <<<<< buying a PLEX and selling it for ISK to buy your Titans, or Chelms Cap Rechargers, ONLY enables you to buy something that already exists.

What I'm ok with:
AUR / ISK for in-game benefits: $50 for a full set of +6 implants? Cool. X Aur / Isk for +x% damage implant? Cool. Slightly better ships, alright, fine. Better ammo? Fine. Etc. If the benefits are minor and not huge and reasonable in price (a minimum wage worker in any country could afford a few of such items a month).

What I'm NOT ok with:
Aur / Isk for gate tolls, buying SP, paying Isk / Aur for things we get now, already, for free such as docking in a station.

Also: FIX WHAT'S BROKEN BEFORE YOU ADD MORE!

P.S. CCP, please keep in mind this is a universe you've made. Something you called not a game but REAL LIFE at FanFest. Real life does not change on a whim with every gust. Minor additions we, the PLAYERS, see coming from a mile away is fine. Huge sweeping changes dropped on us anytime you like? Not. Cool.

I'm not quite as upset with the various issues as some of the people, but I can certainly understand where they're coming from. And I'll just present my views on the subject.

Incarna is a terrible expansion. That in my view is the source of 90% of your problems.
-it actually reduced functionality in a number of ways highlighted by Tippia and others
-it offered practically no changes to the "flying in space" feature
-the "Walking in Closets" aspect is very feature limited, offering nothing we couldn't already do. The controls are awkward. It takes longer to load, hardly boding well for when we'll have to interact with dozens of people in future expansions.
-it was a rushed expansion. Not even waiting until you had all 4 station environments completed was a mistake.
-it makes very little sense based on what we know about capsuleers and their preference for staying in their nice gooey pod

WoW got away with selling a $25 mount because by and large they also release really good content for their subscribers. LotRO gets away with selling practically everything because its essentially free to play. Eve hasn't had a major content patch since Apocrypha, and it still has a subscription fee. If you had waited till you released a high quality expansion like Apocrpyha or maybe even Incursion, then you might have gotten away with introducing the Real Money store. But choosing to do that *instead* of offering any decent content was a terrible idea.

I think thats why its called a SPINblog.

They just spin words with no real meaning.

Anyways I'm unsubbed and just became a forum warrior

Ultimately the forum furor won't really matter.

Anyone who has taken the time to read the newsletter will know those ideas were not hatched overnight. They were clearly laid out with pros and cons, and presented to the CCP employee workforce as a done deal.

Which means they were presented to the CCP Venture Cap people, and anyone who has a vested interest in CCP's future (which isn't her player base 'natch). CCP's CEO will not be calling a meeting with his investor's next week saying "Sorry guys, I know we spent the last half year working out new ways to make money... but a lot of faceless trolls on the forums cried, so it's back to the drawing boards for new money making ideas".

CCP will spin the hell out of this event, and people will continue to subscribe regardless. Ultimately Dust and WoD will be released and CCP will succeed or fail based on those ventures. SWG's NGE might have hurt Sony Online... but they're very much stil around and kicking as a company.

On the whole I had thought the June expansion, Incarna was ok, not great but ok.

But, a lot of things are starting to snowball. I understood that CQ was just the first step in being able to walk in stations and interact with other players, so I forgive the lack of anything to do in CQ. AUR was a way to bring CCP some additional revenue, ok no big deal. I don't care about vanity until its something I want. Ie. Corp/Alliance logo on my ship. Or hash marks indicating the number of kills I have made with the ship I am flying, (until its destroyed). The prices on the clothing items was not a good indicator of future items being worth buying, but I assumed it was just a starter price point, not a shakedown. That the prices shown would be reduced drastically once the bugs were out of the system. But then, the internal pdf came to light.

My god people! What in the hell were you thinking? Even if its purely speculative, its an insanely stupid thing to do. Introducing game items that impact game play breaks the sandbox. Hell it breaks theme park games.

One final question; Is CCP in talks with Sony Online Entertainment to be acquired?

Just here to say that I will wait to see what the blog says... but if it includes MT's that involve in game standing/ships/ammo that are spawned from nothing or circumvent current game mechanics don't see this game lasting too long.
