Hi, everyone

Some of you who have been around for a while may remember me. I was the original community manager for EVE. These days, I oversee the PR and Community teams. While most of what I do happens behind the curtains, I am still aware of whatís going on front and center. I would be lying if I said that whatís happening now didnít make me sad, but Iím not here to ask for your sympathy. To be perfectly honest, Iím here to buy time while we try to sort things out. No sense in lying about it so I'll call a spade a spade.

Itís clear that many of you are <understatement alert> angry </alert>. Thereís a lot happening, things are changing quickly and we havenít been as forthcoming as you were used to in the past. Iím willing to step out front and take a lot of heat for that since I was the one who made the decision to hold off on responding for a while to see if things cooled down once the new wore off.

I was wrong to do that and I apologize. We should have said something much sooner. We should have done more to address your concerns and be forthcoming, even if we werenít going to be able to immediately give you all of the answers you were looking for or the answer your questions in ways that will instantly turn those frowns upside down. To be even more candid, I cannot answer all of your questions, either, but I am working with the people who can to start getting those answers for you. Again, I know weíre doing this past the expiration date of your patience but I hope youíll bear with me.

I know that, with very few exceptions, most of you donít know me from Adam. I havenít earned your trust or respect; therefore I have no right to ask anything of you Ė but I am going to try, anyway. Can I please count on at least some of you to help bring the pitchforks and torches down a few notches?

Like I said, I wonít be able to answer all of your questions tonight, but I promise weíll start getting some info out tomorrow. As I see it, the chief complaint is regarding the high cost of goods in the Noble Market. Second, many people are unhappy about the Captainís Quarters. Third, there are some performance issues with Incarna. I would appreciate it if you would confirm my observations or tell me what Iím missing, but I do ask that you do it in a productive way. I will remove posts without prejudice if they are counterproductive to the conversation I hope to have with you.

If youíve read this much, thanks for staying with me. If you have something to say, Iíd like very much to hear it.

Humbly yours,
~P~

EDIT as of 24/6/11: Please do the above, it needs more exposure. Everything below this edit was written on 23/6/11

Do you have any definitive idea of the future of Aurum?

EDIT:

I'm actually going to be more serious than I normally am for a bit, given my place on this thread.

I actually love this game. I usually joke around and call it a pile of garbage, but I really wouldn't be here if I didn't think it was special. I love the community, and usually I love how interactive CCP is with its fanbase. I don't even think Incarna is all that bad (the turrets are great, and I really would love to see WiS be developed completely). However, I feel like none of the concerns of the community have been addressed. Worse, I feel like these concerns are being swept under the rug, and even treated with outright contempt.

As someone who always thought that the interaction with the developers was one of Eve's finest aspects, it's really disheartening to see this brick wall being erected between the players and the devs. It really has me questioning where exactly this game is headed. It seems like ever since DUST was announced the players' opinions mean less and less. Features that many players want are ignored, while decisions that are questionable at best are made without regard to the concerns of the community.

I don't think that it's too late to save this special little den of internet spaceships and internet spaceship captains; however, this trend cannot go on forever and it has all the signs of fail cascade written all over it.

CCP, your players really do care about you and about your game. It would just be nice if the feelings were returned.

1. we want ship-spin option instead of CQ.

2. The document leak needs to be addressed. are you lying to us?

3. Broken Skills, implants applications -- drone bonuses etc. also stealth change to probing? really? making a nerf sound like a buff? more hints of dishonesty.

4. Hardware issues, sure, it's a problem. Not for some of us as we're just staring at a door. but yea, fix it.

5. Nex prices are insane, but most of the folks who are hating it won't use Nex anyway. This is the least of your problems.

Overall the feeling is that CCP cares more about DUST514, and Worlds of Darkness than you do EVE. Doesn't matter if it's true, it's how many people feel, You need to admit that you've caused this feeling and understand we'd like some evidence that it's not.

CQ can be seen as a testbed for WoD technology -- even if it's not, it can be seen that way. Pay some attention to the core features that have been the main part of eve since 2003. It's been about 18 months since we saw a patch that had a significant release that involved pew pew with internet spaceships ( no, we don't all count lag fixing or sov as pew pew -- those are bug fixes ).

Tell us what you have planned -- dev blogs have been silent during this time about future plans to add pew pew content.

that about sums it up.

also, talk to John Turbefield, he can help you understand :)

We're passionate about eve. We get passionate when we worry about something we care so much for. Many of us are very emotionally invested in this product. We need to be able to trust CCP that they have it's best interests at heart.

The past few days have damaged that trust for many. I hope it can be regained.

The direction that CCP has for EVE is probably the largest concern, since there seems to be a difference between the public vision and the internal company vision.

Disguted about this entire turn of events. And I note that after 245 pages and counted and Pann has made no reply.

Edit: Apparently Pann has a family emergency.....

I'd like to know if that "document" floating around is supported by CCP? It looks fake, but some clarification on that would help (hopefully) calm the forum community down a bit.

Linkage

The thread with over 127,000 views in just over 24 hours would seem to indicate the chief complaint is CCP lying to their customers and plotting to introduce items that give in-game advantages into the cash shop whether we like it or not.

*edit*

quite frankly a simple +1 wont cut it.

CCP as a company has lost alot of trust with the playerbase. If CCP wants ANY Chance of salvaging the damage done here, your going to have to be p front and honest. Your going to have to answer the hard questions, and provide proof of a change in direction, Because to put it bluntly (at least from my POV) i dont trust anyone with that CCP tag as far as i can throw them. My subs are already cancelled. its up to yo to get them back at this point, and i think alot of others would agree.

Damn, they bring us back the Ancients.

Rep' to you for stepping in the line of fire. You are right on most of your points, except that you cannot take them one from another. You are trying to force us to dig your stuff, and you are doing it wrong, with despictables intents. THAT's the problem, and it covers all the points you told.

Stop bull****ting us, and take actions. Now.

Just be upfront with us. Treat us like YOU would like to be treated as a customer. And remember, we don't buy a 6pack here, we buy longtime time investment in a hobby.

No trust, no time investment. Or do you invest in stuff where the outcome is pretty much riddled with lies, 180į turns and "we make
it up as we go" mentality?

Alot of us want to know where this new MT-strategy is going, as simple as that.

Do you see the bit where CCP says one thing to the players (Vanity MT only, WE PROMISE!) and another thing completely internally (selling faction standing, selling ships, selling ammo, selling more than 50 fitting slots)?

Do you understand how we might be a teensy bit angry about that? About being treated like imbeciles, children who'll lap up any shiny as long as it's presented properly and introduced slowly enough?

And most importantly: Do you understand how, on a basic level, this destroys the promise of EVE Online?
