Dear CCP
After an appropriate period of deliberation, I have come to the decision to tender my resignation from Eve Online, effective June 23rd 2011.
Please know that I still maintain a high level of respect for you as GM's and Devs, and I thank you sincerely for the support and assistance you have offered me in each of those roles. I have been proud to work for bugger all over the past # years; it has been a journey that has provided me an unparalleled foundation to move forward to new and exciting opportunities.
As such, I have decided to become a professional pirate in real life. It has always been a dream of mine to live the life of a swashbuckling corsair, beholden to none and master of all I survey. Once my crew of unabashed rogues is assembled, we shall take to the capacious expanse of the high seas to pursue fortune, fame, and hair-raising adventure.
Our path may not be filled with the porcine comforts and technological marvels that CCP provides, but we shall nonetheless move forward to carve a name for ourselves in the annals of bold insurgency and death-defying derring-do. Once I have a keen blade at my hip and the Jolly Roger is flapping high above me, I believe I will find my true calling.
Please note that I am currently accepting applications for First Officer, if you are at all interested in applying. I will provide a full medical and dental plan, which will offer immediate coverage of all maladies other than scurvy and the occasional bout of rickets.

I quit because:

- I have this tshirt: "I wished for something good in Incarna and all I got was this crappy T-shirt"

- No hope left that someone at CCP has a brain left. I knew they were zombies all along, and Incarna proves that the Zombie Apocalypse is real; theyyyyy'reeee heeeeereeee!

- Done sifting through "EveLOLpedia" articles, a mess of a monkey's attempt at 'documentation'. Even CCP staff can't get it right" "Step Foot Into Captain's Quarters". Literacy 101: "Step In", or "Set Foot". But Aura doesn't teach that in Advanced Wtfology 306.

-Done playing "DarkSpace Online", waiting ten minutes for combat to load only to blink my eyes thrice and find myself back "home", virtual existence terminated in a string of 1's and 0's. Wile E. Coyote comes to mind... Made by ACME = Made by CCP. At least Wile E's rockets actually worked, sort of...

-Tired of the "us versus them" battle, the politics, and the illusion of grandiose things to come. (cough giving lip service to hardworking CSM5). I would be better off in a blood bank than my wallet being pillaged dry for nothing. At least blood prices are stable, and I'm never disappointed in the end as I always get a cookie and juice box.

- Quitting so my carebear tears will stop raising ocean levels, flooding low areas and causing lulz-induced hypoxia.

-I can harvest gas by chewing cabbage daily. I'm sure my partner will enjoy "wormhole exploration" tonight. Certainly no m"ass" limits there.

-I'll take my chances with the DEA running drugs and exotic dancers across the border. At least there I have a chance to get away or die in a shoot-out. God forbid if the Fed were chasing a fugi...oh wait, "Session Change".

-Joining the real navy, where capital ships are used to change the tide of war and not as the latest in an ever-escalating representation of the perceived size of one's electronic "peen". (hint: It's small!) Nice 01100011011000010111001001110010011010010110010101110010. Shiny, isn't it? (if you translated that in your head to the actual word, please seek professional help!)

- Then I can have all those shinies from Krelian, which I can then use to post "I am quitting eve" messages in Jita local and not have it be a scam. That would really shake the Jovians out of hiding... a disturbance on Tranquility, ironic. (Force reference here, work with me people).

- Damnit, I wanted my dancing-monkey at my side walking around in station. Alas, ChimChim is still a fantasy. Le sigh.

A long, long time ago,
In a system, far away
CCP was under an attack

And I thought me and Krelian
Could talk those Vikings in-
To maybe, cutting us a little slack

But their response it didn't thrill us
They sat muted and tried to ban us
We escaped with our pod
And, said goodbye with a curt nod

Krel, he sent a post to us all
His ISK he's giving, yes really, all!
We all wound up in Jeee-Ta Fouuur...
That's where, this story...ends...

Oh my, my this here carebear cry
Maybe better some day later
But right now I'm just a small fry
And CCP has screwed me once again
Saying "It is on the backlog... it is on the backlog..."

Did you know a Minnie slave
Bought from me some Aurum, he should save
But he can wear a shirt, they say
Do you see him wearing a monocle
CCP's "gotcha" laugh, maniacal
Yeah, he's gonna be broke one day

I know CCP has bills to pay ,That backlog will clear itself one day
And Soon(TM) is not today
So I'm quitting for a year or two-hoo
Ideas and feedback all discarded
We said microtrans was ******ed
Well we knew who would make buck
But hey, they don't giiiiiive a f... wait, this is PG rated. <Pumba, not in front of the kids!>

Oh my, my this here carebear cry
Maybe better some day later
But right now I'm just a small fry
And CCP has screwed me once again
Saying "It is on the backlog... it is on the backlog..."

I'm quitting too, so no point giving me anything!

Best of luck to you though, I know it's a tough decision to walk away from EvE, even if CCP are making it very easy atm.

The following happened on the morning of 22nd of June.

I had been staying up pretty late, lurking the EVE forums, and waiting for the servers to come online again. That didn't happen of course, so I ended up spending hours reading about people ragequitting over different reasons, the new MT path being one of the most prominent reasons.

In the morning when I woke up, I had to check the forums again.

And what do I see : monocles for $60 !

In their infinite wisdow, CCP has launched MT store, containing nothing to buy.

I did spend an hour reading all sorts of posts, some pro and some against this new business model CCP is set on embracing in the future, and couldn't do much else than laugh quietly inside for the persons at CCP responsible for this horrible mess they've created for themselves and their customers.

Eventually I had to leave for work, hopped in to my car and turned on the radio.

The first notes that come out where the chorus of this song :
Youtube linky

I can assure that i got some strange looks from the neighbours, a fat guy in his shaking small car laughing his ass off for several minutes.

And of course, the mandatory : I Quit ( except in case I receive a contract worth several Billions of 'stuff', allowing me to start a new career as a professional suicide ganker.)

British artistic female, hopeless romantic, and geeky gamer, seeks that special someone.

Tends to be very shy at first, but once you get to know her is really outgoing.

Always gives unconditional love to everyone in her life, usually without any in return, and secretly craves unconditional love (OK, I guess itís not secret anymore).

Loves coffee on a rainy day and can cite Chuck Palahniuk's "Fight Club" like gospel.

Enjoys talking in third-person in profile descriptions.

Looking for someone who is a geek like me, who likes to play the same games I like, and has a sense of humor.

Lastly he has to be romantic.

List of some things I like:

Eve Online
Harry Potter
Hitchhiker's Guide
Role Playing
Science Fiction
Star Trek
Star Wars
Super Heroes
Video Games

I don't think CCP really cares about words. The best would be simply to show the following images in sequence. (The last is most important to get the point across)

Sorry CCP but its over
We had some good times but its over now. I have moved on to bigger and better things

Where is?

Where is the warrior?
Staring down death, outnumbered.

Alas, accompanied by an entire three alliances.

Where is the miner?
Risking all for the rarest of treasures.

Alas, having a cup of tea while their bots do the work.

Where is the missioner?
Pledging their allegiance, fighting for the cause.

Alas, he is also having a cup of tea; his bots hard at work.

Where is the trader?
Endeavouring to provide the resources where they are needed.

Alas, spending ISK on PLEX to exchange for Aurum to fleece people for ISK.

Where is Chribba?
Excavating an entire system from the chair of his Veldnaught.

Alas, he is modelling his new eye appendage for his friends.

Where is the pilot?
That once travelled across the stars in search of fame and fortune.

Alas, they are now spinning their avatars in station.

Where is Krelian?
The boldest of all the pilots in EVE; vanguard of the old ways.

Alas, he is alone in space, the last capsuleer, and now he too, docks for the last time.

Edit: stupid typo's

I'm attempting a rational "I Quit" post while trying to stay unbiased. This is all speculative and fictional rant, which is not aimed at being funny, witty or even having a point, but anyhow...

Joining the Eve universe was my attempt at satisfying my need for excapism. This is the excapism driver that we all have, which we all attempt to satisfy in one way or another, be it via books, films, role-playing, or other entertainment. I loved the complexity, sheer scope, and player driven gameplay of Eve.

The players make the game.

Sadly, as Eve ages, changes are to be expected in order to:

Keep up with industry expectations
: graphics, etc

Aquire new players: introduction of game mechanisms that would appeal to a wider audience. i.e. CQ's, Streamlining the player introduction, etc

As a game ages, the players that stay become the veteran players of the game. These players stayed in the game because of what the game offered at the time (the core game mechanics of Eve).

Many players feel the direction CCP are taking with Eve compromises the future prospects for improving the core gameplay. Rather than work on core game balancing or developing content that improves the core content, it appears that CCP are improving immersion and bridging a gap between itself and more popular entertainment platforms that rely on player driven entertainment. i.e. virtual chatrooms such as IMVU

As CCP are taking this direction, I postulate that veteran players see little future prospects for the refocusing on developing content that will extend the longtivity of their game playing. I mean, lets face it, once you have done everything in the game, what else is there to do other than hold onto the player interation? Once everything is done in the game, EVE can become a glorified chatroom for some people.

Further Rebalancing of core content, and introduction of core content such as wormholes, incursions, etc was great but what will CQ's offer?

Hopefully, CQ's is the stepping stone to a Freelancer'ist or Kotor like game immersion, but better. Where the game evolves from being space ship pvp/pve (to also) offering third person planet/station pvp/pve....

...and hopefully not a glitsy in space chatroom.

But this direction is seen by some as being detrimental to the future improvment of the core game. Improving the core game graphics is one thing, but when will we see:

The addressing of broken game mechanics such as the proliferation of supercaps?

Balancing of the races so that they offer totally different kinds of gameplay but are balanced? Starcraft anyone?

Note: While this does exist to a degree, some worry that lazy rebalancing (due to focusng on these new developments) will result in the lack of diversification.

Game evolution aside for the rest of this attempt to win some virtual isk Surprised

I want to discuss company bahaviour.

The introduction of core game changes without a sufficient notice time and without a explanation as to the exact change is poor practice imo.

The example I base this comment on is the removal of unproabable ships. FYI - I am indifferent as to the effect of this change, but I feel the way in which it was done is objectionable.

1. While there was mention of the change by GM's (in passing) in forum posts, I did not come across a game mechanic change blog to draw players attention to this change. I suspect there are many players who are still unaware of this change if they didn't read the patch notes.

2. Probe-ability is based on a formula that the EVE community is aware of. The patch change description however does not identify the cut-off point. At what point will our ship tweaking cease to affect our probe-ability?

Anyhow. If I was an old player, bored with the game, having done everything, and seeing that CCP are taking a different direction with the game which does not improve on the game content that made me stay... I quit.
