You know, today and yesterday hit me hard. It is easy to say if you don't like it quit, but the truth is that we are all paying customers with opinions about the product we pay for.

In the end, even the most bitter of vets is here because on some level, he cares.

Since I picked up this game in November, I have met awesome people, not so awesome people, explored space, amassed vast isk reserves, and perhaps most importantly, had a good time.

I looked forward to new ships, new expansions, new adventures. I usually prefer games with a plot, but for whatever reason I found the sandbox interesting. People built and destroyed, made friends and enemies, and cared with an intensity seldom seen. I had fun with Incursions, and played with the Noctis.

And when people said the sky was falling, I said, "No, it isn't". I was warned that in time I would see how things were, and become jaded. I didn't believe it. I looked forward to Dust, and to whatever you were doing. I was, in essence, your fan.

Yesterday opened my eyes. You released a unfinished expansion that is barely functional. One that is actively damaging some people's systems, and which prevents some other people from playing the game altogether. An expansion that offers no content, and which even on my 6870 at max settings, looks terrible.

The reason for this rush? a poorly priced and conceived microtransaction store that has made you the laughing stock of the business, the media, and most importantly, your customers.

But really, if that was it, it would be no big deal.

It then came to light that you have been lying through your teeth all this time. That you have been removing functionality (like accessories that existed in the previous char creator, ship fittings, etc), to sell them later. That when you say "Vanity only" you forget to add "for now".

Yesterday, your sales coordinator showed the blatant disregard and contempt you have for your customers by his comments on chat, but perhaps most importantly, your disconnection from reality.

But all through this, through the broken expansion with one of four "stations" in which we can play by ourselves and stare at such relevant items as 10 + boots and monocles, I had faith.

Faith that this was a miscommunication.

Faith that there was an error somewhere.

Faith that at some point, CCP BackTracks would show up and tell us that it was incorrect. Or perhaps even that you had changed your mind.

Faith that the document posted and verified as authentic by several sources was a joke.

I suspect others shared that faith. Others with longer stories, and customer ralationships with you.

But I was suddenly struck by a realization.

There is no error, is there? There will be no post telling us that there was a mistake at any point. You will not say that it meant nothing, that you will leave that other woman, and that everything will be okay and we will be happy.

I realize the meaning of your silence.

It is us, who are going. It is us, you don't care about. What post comes will state that yes, you are going for microtransactions, no, there is no mistake, and no, there will be no change.

And it's a damn shame. I actually liked your game. We had some good times.

Do you really think things will work out for you?

Do you think you will replace your customer base and make more money off a magical other one?

Honestly?

Seriously?

Look around at all the failed MMO's and Console games. You got lucky, but most don't. Dust is doomed, and games based off the White Wolf franchise are seldom successful. And then what?

In your hubris and arrogance, you are sacrificing us. Keep that in mind.

I'm a newer player. One that came as a result of your marketing. One that liked your game and spent on it. One that is thinking of going.

Think about that.

This tbh, they can release new clothing models/textures weekly but new ship models / textures yearly, what gives?

Well said. I agree with every point made.

I'm pretty angry myself, since my Mac can no longer play the game it played just fine on Monday. Maybe it didn't look so great, but at least it was playable.

The sad thing is, I was really looking forward to Incarna. I thought the vets were being too hard on it. 'Yeah, but you can turn off the CQ if you want. It's still internet spaceships.' I thought the potential for a living, breathing station full of people would eventually be awesome. First time I saw my ship floating in the hangar, I really had hope.

Having seen its implementation now, I shudder to think what WiS will look like. After seeing how clumsy your avatar is in the CQ, can you imagine dozens of people in a station colliding with each other, trying to maneuver themselves so they're kinda, sorta looking in each other's direction, bumping into tables, chairs, potted plants, stripper poles, atms, etc, etc? Imagine the physics effects with hair and clothing as wonky as it is now(prepare for lots of hilarious Youtube moments there). After 30 minutes, I turned off the CQ, when my fan was drowning out the music(Really, CCP, is that the best static image you can come up with, a dark & dingy shot of the door?). I've seen enough.

And the Noble Exchange. The less said, the better. Not that I was ever going to avail myself of it, but I'm hoping when CCP finally returns to the forums, the first statement is, 'HAH, those were typos!! LOL. We were kidding! Take off a few zeroes. It's not horse armor, really.' What really irks me about it is the arrogance and disconnection from players that it shows. Along with the leaked memo, it sends a very bad message about the future of the game.

Not sure I want to be a part of it.

OP made one of the best posts about all this subject , and in a geneeral way its represents what I feel and quite majority of the player population with brains will feel.

Yesterday I was goign to change my subscription detaisl to update my new credit card nubmer since the old one got blocked. Well I didn't do it.. and I am having a hard time to believe I will do it.

Why would I keep fidelity to a company that made such a huge backstab?

The only thing that damaged their computers, was reading the minimum spec's, and thinking that meant with all settings on high.

What Minimum Spec really means is: With no less than this, and even with this, you're likely to experience slow frame rates, and for certain, that's with all settings on low, and with certain settings disabled, like Depth Buffer.

Screen_Space_Ambient_Occlusion is dependent on depth buffer, so turning it off, should also disable SSAO, correct? That means you'll reduce the load on your GPU significantly, for the loss of something you'll hardly notice, and wasn't existing in EVE before Incarna anyway.

Look's terrible, at max? What were you expecting; the movie Avatar? Even they had funny looking faces and speech animations on the Digitally generated people. Check out Jeff Bridges as what's his name and younger self in Tron, for a sample of latest capabilities with Millions spent on CGI. Much easier to make a Transformer look real than a person.

They did pretty damn good I'd say.

Completely blew past the limitations of Python with Carbon IO and especially Bluenet too. A year and a half to essentially recode the entire mechanism that controls flow in Stackless IO, and create something that completely blows away the barriers to throughput, while enhancing cross server communication in a Cluster. The potential implications for Distributed Computing are stunning.

MT isn't a big deal. Don't buy if you don't want to. It's not their to make you spend your money; it's an option. That's why they call it vanity.

Completely new turret models and animations. That's super cool, and I love that we now have more than 2 models for each faction of turrets; where before the only time they change was for Single and Dual, with Tech I and Tech II options, or Capital glass Turrets on Dreads.

Minimum bugs, and it looks fine. Get an update or use lower settings.

Recommended settings and what they really mean, for an fyi: Systems that meet recommended settings will most likely run all aspects of this game on medium to high settings with good frame rates.

Neither Min. Specification, or Recommended Specification includes the use of multiple clients, or running in Windowed mode on top of your operating system, and neither is it inclusive of using High Resolution, or running without Vsync in immediate mode.

Those are just some basics, that any PC gamer should aware of, when they get their first PC game. It's common sense to most of us.

Sorry you all are having troubles, but CCP gave plenty of advanced warning, including regarding the use of multiple clients and windowed mode.

They also gathered hardware, (in this thread), from players that was used to determine minimum spec, despite it being used, abused, sitting in boxes and collecting dust for months, and never being regarding as being worth the effort to avoid Electro Static Discharge when handling. All such components were tested, assembled, and used to determine Minimum spec for Incarna by CCP, and served their limited purpose to satisfaction apparently.

Seems to me they put some effort in to avoid this. The rest is up to you.

Myself and others have also tried to help you with issues and functionality when using old PC's with Incarna, to little effect. Except for 2 responses, everyone else has pretty much ignored our efforts and thrown the dodgeball at CCP.

Biggest realization I've had is that ALL MMO PUBLISHERS ARE BACKSTABBING scumBAGS. It wasn't just SOE. Or Craptic.

CCP turned out to be just bad a bunch of corrupt money stealing bastards as them.

Frankly I don't think I will be playing MMOs anymore. I used to think that the little company that could in Iceland, despite being far from perfect, at least was trying to deliver a PLAYER CONTROLLED sandbox space game.

Sandbox games can't have cash shops.

Let that sink in. RMT is kryptonite to sandbox.

To the OP, well written, i have been around in EVE for somtime but even i am starting to question hanging around, i still have a bit of faith left though, they are going to fix this (fingers crossed) Wink

Seriously, if you take a computer that overheated into a computer shop, told them it was caused by playing a game like Eve and then asked them to repair it they are likely to tell you that they won't be able to source components that old and will advise you to buy a new PC.

If your components fail while playing a game then they are proably faulty or poorly constructed (eg. cooling block not contacted to cpu/gpu correctly). If they are faulty then get them replaced under warranty. If they are not under warranty because they are over 3 years old or you have modified them yourself then it probably needs replacing anyway.

Given that there are something like 60k+ active Eve players and less than 1% of those have reported the issues highlighted in this thread it is likely (as was mentioned in an above post) That this is a problem affecting a certain configuration or possibly even caused by a common 3rd party software application or driver that do not agree with Eve. Given that it works fine for me and I know of several players who have seen an INCREASE in performance I think this is probably the case.

Agree with most of what OP said.

I've been playing EVE since 2004 so I have no delusions on what the bottom line is for CCP (making money doh!, though I was still surprised a few times while reading that leaked bulletin...).

Anyway, up to this point they have been smart about it. Sure, they've done silly things like not fixing annoying (but mostly minor bugs) in the game or paying very little attention to botting on the off chance that PLEX will solve all their problems.

But now they just seem... incompetent? I mean, how on earth can the current CQ rendering (not all that mesmerizing, is it?) justify a worse performance than Crysis 1/2? It can't, not if we are to remain objective about it (which is admittedly hard for those of us who've been playing this game for years and love it). And there's other stuff that makes no sense.

I joined 7 years ago and been on/off with my subscriptions because I almost inevitably get bored after a while and want to do other things, but always returning a few months later.
This will be the first time I might actually leave because I really stopped caring for the game. And that means the likelihood of renewing the subscription sometime in the future falls down dramatically.
