Hey all. As the title suggests, I am looking for a good skill plan to make my dedicated scanning alt capable of soloing combat complexes that I've found when I'm out scanning for the other sites. Currently, I don't have many SP (just barely 3.2m) and about a third of that is sunk into drones at the moment. During the training process I will be using my main to do the combat sites as needed, but I would eventually like for this character to be able to do them on her own, preferably in one ship. I don't venture into low sec too much (lulz carebear!) except during expedition escalations. I am also not opposed to cross-training for other ships, and have two remaps available. I am trying to finish as many skills as possible which require Int/Mem that will be useful to me before using my remaps. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
The current plan that I have in mind is to use a drone boat to do the exploring and killing rats so that I do not have to dock every time I want to move to a new site, leading me to think that Gallente ships might be best. I realize that this is far from optimal, however, and I am looking for ideas from others with more experience in the area of exploration. Should I try to get a ship that has drones, but also packs some firepower? If so, what kind of ship should I be considering? I would also like to eventually visit W-space to do sites there, again, solo if possible.
My stats are as follows:
Int - 24
Per - 20
Cha - 17
Will - 20
Mem - 30
And Skills I have trained so far:
Combat Drone Operation IV
Drone Interfacing IV
Drone Navigation IV
Drone Sharpshooting IV
Gallente Drone Specialization III (planned to IV)
Scout Drone Operation V
Drone Durability (planned to IV)
Electronic Upgrades III
Long Range Targeting III
Signature Analysis IV
Energy Emission Systems I
Energy Grid Upgrades II
Energy Management IV
Energy Systems Operation IV
Shield Operation IV
Medium Energy Turret II
Motion Prediction III
Small Energy Turret III
Trajectory Analysis I
Weapon Upgrades III
Armor Rigging I
Hull Upgrades IV
Jury Rigging III
Repair Systems IV
Salvaging III (planned to V)
Archaeology II (planned to V)
Astrometric Aquisition III (planned to IV)
Astrometric Rangefinding IV
Astrometrics III (planned to IV)
Cybernetics III (planned to V)
Hacking III (planned to V)
Amarr Cruiser II
Amarr Frigate IV
Spaceship Command III (planned to V)

if your looking for a drone boat, i hear good things about the Ishtar
probably would want to train sentry drones for it too.
i myself used a Gila (also a drone boat) as a all in 1 high sec explorer till i upgraded to a Tengu, i can reccomend either
hope that helps

Thanks! I was thinking about using the Ishtar (or the Gila) as a drone boat possibility, and training to get Sentry V. What I'm concerned about is how long it would take to kill things with drones vs killing them myself (as my weapon skills are currently pretty horrid, but I am looking to fix that). If I go for the Ishtar, I may try to go for the Proteus later on. And, I was thinking that I would go for a passive shield tank set up if I do this as well.
Does this seem like a reasonable route to take?

i only really know caldari (gurista pirate) ships, so i couldnt really advise you on the tanking aspect of gallente ships.
i think (although i could be wrong) to completly passive tank, not sure armor tanks can do that, and not sure if gallente ships are suited to shield tank (shield tankers use shield power relays(low slots) and shield rechargers (mid slots) to get the shield recharge rate, wheres im pretty sure armor tanking doesnt have a equivalent, i.e it uses armor repairers to get armor back.
but killing wise, aslong as your drone skills are good i.e able to use T2 drones if possible, speed shouldnt be a issue, myself i cant use T2 sentrys/heavy drones and never had a problem with kill speed.

Yeah, I think Gallente tend to be better suited towards armor tanking, and if I use a Proteus later, armor tanking might be a good option. The Ishtar has a decent number of mid and low slots (5 each) that could be used one way or another. Guess I will need to work on some armor tanking and hybrid turret skills, then. Thanks for the help! :)

Should be noted that exploration rats are determined by region in the same way belt rats are, so swapping weapon systems isn't a huge problem.
If you want a ship specialized for exploration including combat sites, you can't beat t3, though I'm not sure about the amarr t3's drone abilities, I know the gallente version leaves something to be desired.
All of the skills required for a t3 are fundamental to any combat character too, so no waste (well, caldari require missile op and shield op instead of mech and gunnery like the others).
If you're still low skill though you won't be making tons of isk doing exploration, so it may be better to make it a long term goal while you get combat support skills to 3-4 (get controlled bursts asap unless abandoning amarrian ships). A battlecruiser should work well for most sites in the meantime, can't really advise you on which to choose, as I don't know amarr.
By combat support skills, I mean weapon systems secondaries, energy and shield management and operation, reapir systems, mechanic, and navigation skills. III should be sufficient for most of them, htough you want t2 resists/repairers and IV in controlled bursts if you stick with lasers.
Unless you're going to an ishtar or gila, I'd sideline drone spec iv for a good while, and definitely wouldn't raise drone durability any further at your sp level. Except in pvp, drones shouldn't be allowed to get and keep aggro.
Also, hacking/archeology/salvaging III is all you need for high sec cans, and I think salvaging IV is enough to get faction frigs/cruisers that you see in escalation sites. I know there are some cans in losec that require higher skills, but don't know whether it's IV or V required. Astrometric acquisition shouldn't be trained any further except for pvp scouting, and you should pick up astro pinpointing and train it to III; it actually helps you scan sites down faster then acquisition.
