Couldn't CCP just remove the popup and disable the loading of the station by default on older machines? The rest of the game should still be playable since I don't remember many graphics changes for the rest of the client.

It would most likely be an easy "fix" from CCP's side and would make many happy campers....

Shader Model 3 is also used in flying in space (for example the new turrets), so unfortunately disabling CQ won't make any difference. The messaging for this change seem to have not been sufficient enough and we are going to improve this in the future.

If you are unable to play the game I would recommend contacting customer support.

customer support can't really fix the problem though can they? I really appreciate that you guys will hopefully look into the problem.
I can see why upgraded models and systems make sense, but what i really don't get is why you risk loosing customers over this.
Most people just can't upgrade their systems all the time. The communication was no problem, I for one was well aware that i might get problems with incarna, that still did not make it possible for me to upgrade my computer.

No, they can't. The best they can do is to give you a refund; because Apple doesn't support SM3 on the X1K cards, EVE is never going to run on them starting with Incarna.

+1 two year plus player who was just rediscovering the joy in eve who had been taken out of the game by this move. I suppose I and my Macbook Pro will just have to go play more SC2 and look around for another MMOG option.

CCP has told us about Shader Model 3 requirements for a year and a half. Go read a dev blog.

Show me one PC laptop that allows you to upgrade it's GPU.

Anything from Clevo, including many of the Sager laptops, and a few of the MSI ones can.

That being said, just because the OSX driver sucks doesn't mean that the windows driver for that card (in the MBP) is useless. Ever thought of bootcamp?

That being said, the x1600 MBPs were phased out 4 years ago - they're not exactly new anymore, by a long shot.
