I agree with those who have already suggested it, a "disembark button" is the ideal solution. It solves the roleplay issues, the performance issues, and the playability issues. In short, it needs to happpen. I want to use Incarna, but right now it's a nightmare.

Also, I want the old turret icons back, it's something we're all familiar with and there's really no reason to change them if the majority want legacy icons, or how 'bout this: add an option in the ESC menu to use legacy icons, then everybody wins

And once again.... SHIP SPINNING!!!

My expectations for CQ were low, so I wasn't that disappointed. At least on my laptop, looked like a slideshow. My desktop computer might do better, but I want to play EVE crashed on my couch not sitting at my desk. Spent a few minutes watching my avatar blunder around and then disabled it. Net loss of immersion, since I can no longer instantly see what ship I'm in. Or ship spin.

New turret effects are ok; new turret icons are ugly and harder to tell apart than they should be.

Noble store items? If I could find clothes this ugly IRL I could buy them cheaper than what you want for pixels. Fire your designers and get someone who can deliver clothing people might actually want to wear. And drop the prices by about an order of magnitude.

The work that has gone into this patch is awesome and it looks pretty good if not a bit laggy. The game play is now being affected due to the lag. I propose that you keep everything the same as it was with a leave pod option that would immerse players into the captains quarters.

I'd like to think that for every person complaining, there's at least 20 more people who silently sit back and enjoy the game, otherwise I feel really bad for CCP and all the hard work they put into trying to improve their game.

I like the changes. The new turrets are awesome, CQ is great considering it's the first release. For now yes, it's a little bland with not much to do and there's a noticeable FPS drop after coming from space, but I can definitely see the potential it has. Also, I love the agent finder. Not so useful for me now, but it will be great for new players starting out. Can't believe it took so long to implement something like that. Or was it always there and I just missed it? heh

As for the premium vanity items... I won't be purchasing them. I'm just not interested, but I like that it's an option for people who might be, even if it is a really expensive one.

Speaking of options, being able to choose if you leave your ship or not when you dock would be great too. Not only would it ADD to immersion, it would help those with not so powerful systems and those who just don't like the idea. Kind've surprised CCP didn't make this a choice already, seeing as how you wouldn't always want to leave your ship anyway. Maybe you just docked to drop off some ore or accept a mission or pick up ammo or whatever. Maybe for now it's mandatory because CCP wants to collect feedback on performance or technical issues and in the future will make it an option?

Overall though I think Incarna is great! Keep up the good work CCP! Very Happy

First, I thank all the developers spent time on a patch for your work

Now about the patch

Arrowturret looks super

ArrowCaptains cabin look norms but not without context usability.
Eve is a game about space and ships, and as my avatar would not be able to take a blaster and wearing a military assault suit will go to an enemy ship or abordash base all these uninteresting

Your best additions to EVE over the last few years has been WormHoles because:
added new territory, enemies, resources, ships everything for what we love and play Eve

Summing up enough to spend time on minor changes to already enjoy a normal appendix in game content: as new ships, modules, and those areas of the enemies

- being in station, clicking into the room and pressing Tab won't minimize (and subsequently maximize on pressing Tab again maximize) all UI windows. Works only outside stations.

- turning off the station environment, you can't check on a glimpse what ship you're in again (pre-Incarna, it used to be possible even with deactivated station environment).

- being docked in station doesn't display the station owning corporation in the top right any longer.

- Wallet displays amount of currency in the top right now, instead of the previous top left. Bad UI, as ppl read from left to right, and relevant information should be sitting where you read it first.

Turrets look awesome! Cool

To all you haters out there, please, PLEASE go do something else with your lives and let the rest of us enjoy this game without your childish overtures. There was a time when I was proud of this community but the amount of whine is taking it's toll... THIS IS THE FOUNDATION FOR A EVEN BETTER NEW EDEN!!

Is it perfect? No. But it's the first step in creating an even more immersive universe and a lot of people are really excited about that. Sorry you can't appreciate that.

All dinosaurs feel free to shut up about spinning ships :/

Thank you CCP for staying true to your vision of what Eve can become!!!

My comments, from most important to least.

- being docked in station doesn't display the station owning corporation in the top right any longer.
Kind of nice to have it right in your face that you won't be able to re-dock if you undock.

- Lack of running makes captain's quarters unusable. Movement is too slow.
- Should be able to lock cursor to center of the screen, so moving the mouse will rotate the field of view (like every other game ever)
- Clicking on the planet should allow you to pick any nearby planet (preferably based off your Remote Sensing skill).
- No way of accessing the market through the Captain's Quarters?
- A bunch of window should probably be minimized automatically when you enter a station. Otherwise it's really cluttered.
- Seam on the top of the head for bald characters.
- Should be a pod-entering/leaving animation instead of the "entering space/station" progress bar.
- Would be nice if station services could fold-in to show just small versions of the service buttons, similar to the neocom.

Overall a very skippable expansion.

Really liking the concept of Incarna, its potential to change the social and immersive aspects of the game are huge and am happy to accept your approach of introducing in baby steps.

But I want to add my +1s to the following things that really MUST be added/fixed to bring back playability.

1. We need to stay in our ships when we dock. As far as PVP goes this can't change. It's common for fleet members to leave on a CTA or roam with a missing mod, or need to change their setup en route to a destination. Being able to buy stuff in transit, divert away from fleet, dock, fit, undock and catch up with fleet is a fundamental requirement. Adding technical barriers to the efficiency of this operation is not good.

2. It's not enough to have an option to turn Incarna off even though I'm sure we appreciate that setting. I want to use Incarna and I'm really looking forward to using it beyond CQ but I also need the fast refit / ship change option. There needs to be a disembark option and if we don't disembark then we don't get hit with the performance requirements of Incarna. Dock/refit/undock should be as fast as it was pre-Incarna as long as we don't disembark.

3. I need to be able drag and drop a ship from the hangar window to somewhere on the screen in order to change ship. For example, Simply dragging a ship icon outside of the hangar window should cause that ship to be active. When out of my ship I want firstly to be able to see what ship I will undock with no matter where I am in the station so that I can hit the undock button and know what I'll be in when I enter space. I can do this now by opening the fitting tool but it would nice if there was an icon on the neocom.

4. Need to be able to have separate graphics settings for in station and in space. This should cover both quality vs performance settings as well as moving the centre of the view.

It's a shame that all the stupid emo raging that's going on is detracting from the indisputable fact that the above is really going to kill playability.

Love your work guys, keep it up. But please remember that the player base really need these issues to be addressed.

Pretty much all this right here sum up my feelings. Especially, "2. It's not enough to have an option to turn Incarna off even though I'm sure we appreciate that setting. I want to use Incarna and I'm really looking forward to using it beyond CQ but I also need the fast refit / ship change option. CCP, we NEED a disembark feature.

Dude you can still fit your ship the second you enter the station. The load times have really changed insignificantly unless your running the game on an etch-a-sketch.

Not sure if serious!? ugh

In the old environment, the video card was rendering only a few 100s polygons for the entire station environment (which was created a few years ago), plus only a single ship. In Incarta, it is rendering not only that, but high definition quarters, and highly detailed character model. Of course, the video card is going to work at maximum to rendering all that eye candy, and generate a whole lot of heat in the process. Which brings me to heat issue. Modern video cards are designed to go to 90C heat thresholds, if they are pushed. That is normal. At idle, most video cards are around 40C to 50C, so if your video card rose by 30C, that means it is working at max. Which brings me to your video card, gtx550 TI is not a gaming video card. It is at the low end of mainstream range. If you want a gaming card, either 560 (up to 50% increase in performance) or 570 (up to 100% increase in performance) will do. Please refer to the following charts: http://www.geforce.com/#/Hardware/GPUs/geforce-gtx-550ti/performance

What I think few people failed to grasp is that, with Incarta, CCP once again updated and pushed graphic boundaries in Eve Online, thus requiring newer hardware to render them.

Do I have "heat" issues? Yes. With Incarta, my geforce gtx580 is only able to push 40 fps @ 1920x1200 with all settings max. Compared to 200 fps I get in open space, if I disable vsync. I do too hear my gfx580 spin up and go thermanuclear, but it does exactly the same thing in other modern games as well, e.g. Metro 2033, Global Agenda, Battlefield Bad Company 2.

EDIT:

To fix video performance issue, approach Eve Online with a mindset of newly released game. Never mind that it is 8 years old. CCP has had an excellent track record in staying on top of visual and graphical presentation, as compared to newly released titles.

Therefore, if you are having video performance issues, tweak with your video settings. Lower them a bit, or all the way. Wink

Hi CCP, I can see you put a lot of work into this update, so I'd like to congratulate you on finally getting it out after all these years. My impressions after looking and poking around for half an hour:

  • CQ - It looks very good. Nice to see my character walk around. For the first 5 minutes. Sadly, despite all the hard work you've put in, in its current incarnation it quickly gets very boring. Thanks for allowing us to disable it, as I'm sure you will have noticed that there are many people who are not really interested in CQ, especially the more spaceship oriented people like myself. We'll see what the next update to Incarna will bring, but I strongly suggest making the disable feature permanent. Additionally, you really need to put the ships back in the middle of the hanger for those who keep the CQ view enabled, as the sense of scale fails badly in the current implementation.

  • The new Turrets - The new turret graphics are very nice, although the visual logic behind some of them is somewhat hard to comprehend. I'm also not really sure if all this work was necessary, to be honest. It wasn't a request item at all. having to relearn all the turret graphics for PvP is painful, but I think we'll live

  • The Agent Finder - This visual interface to a simple DB query is something that has been needed for a long time. Excellent

  • The Noble Exchange - I'm not exactly sure what you were thinking when you came up with the prices for the clothing goods but charging more for a virtual pair of trousers than they cost in real life is not going to get you many customers for a game which already costs $180 per year. I am seriously hoping that the prices for those goods are a glitch and that the two extra zeros at the end are not meant to be there.

  • The changes to unscannable T3 ships and probing - This is very good even if the probing changes make probing now slightly OP/unbalanced

It might sound silly, but I spend years to build the story setting for my characters primarily through the standing system. Through that I could show in public who and what I was supporting which created huge immersion and made me feel a connection to the world of EVE.

Not even this could the immersion "expanding" Incarna deliver...

Seems like my motivation to log on is going quickly down the drain.Sad

My Graphics Card is too old???? I need shader 3.0? I don't even know what that is, and I just bought this graphics card off Ebay like only 2 months ago(ATI Radon 300X).

Does anyone know if I can get a really cheap Shader 3.0 Graphics card at Wal-Mart?

Will it say that it is Shader 3.0 compliant on the box?

thanks

MOST USELESS PATCH EVER HAVE DONE

Now I cant see my ship. I suppose to dock and emty my orca and undock again but since there is no ship no way to right click on it to open its hangar either. I have to open ship window find orca in list, then click on it open hangar (ship window stay top on it ) then close ship window and emty ore from hangar.

New icons are ridiculus. Strip miner turrets unrecognizable , they like smudged pic. Even more difficult to recognize by target signse if they are turret or some astroids on background. It took time to find out that thing on my highslot is tractor beam. Actually I still coulodnt figure out what makes it looks like tractor beam device.

New gun icons not eve like, they look like something from starcraft game. Sadly Eve started to change. I always thought I can play this game forever but Now im thinking end of the way is near.

I have no comment on new turret animations. Probably most people like it. Personaly I care more about gameplay and my achivement rather than some fancy grphics. I always play with lowest graph settings. so it didnt add anything for me.

But overal performance slowed down. After carbon releases my mouse started to make frezes , now pain to run two client on same computer even with minimal settings

I have no idea what CCP want to do. I would say They dont wanna pay for usablity tests and want to use players feedbacks as usability test but they dont look like care or read these forum either. I mean look at these feedbacks %90 negative and they still insist to go their way.

Maybe everybody should file petition about these complains. Maybe this company only analyze custumer feedbacks from petitions.

How much did you pay for RADEON X300? ugh

I am sorry to say, but it is a relic this day and age. It was introduced in June 2004. This is nearly 7 years ago. Current video card hardware moves at too quick of a pace, the capabilities and performance of video card doubles every 18-24 months.

You need to visit computer oriented shops. Search for a local and small computer with specialists who can help you.

If you looking for a decent video card, I would recomment either nVidia GeForce GTX 560 TI or ATI/AMD RADEON HD 6750.

Of course, if you still running RADEON X300, it may be time to update update your entire computer, since newer video cards will require newer motherboard components as well.

Your best course of action is to visit local computer specialists and seek their advice.

CCP/Everyone: The following is going to be critical. It's supposed to be. It's feedback. It might be a little flamey, but I've really felt no change except for UI elements since I've played CQ on the test server. I love the patch, but there are some serious flaws in it that I hope you will address. I have seen some wonderful suggestions for this game that I think you really take into account. So again, I love the hard work you've done, I just think you should have thought about it a little more and polished it A LOT before release...

--

Well, I don't mind the eye candy. I miss the ship spinning but that's okay.

The entire thing that really ruins the experience for me is the fact that movement, just sucks. I can't exactly remember if I've said this somewhere else but I know I've been thinking it since CQ hit the test sever. Buy your Devs some first and third person shooters so they can learn what movement is supposed to be like. I mean... really CCP? I'm not allowed to 'strafe' while holding down the camera button to look around? Is there anyone in your office that plays other games?

The problem I'm thinking you are having trouble trying to understand, is CQ and the rest of EVE online are two distinct, but separate games. The only connection they share, is the background story, and the ability to change things in the "Space" portion of it from the CQ portion of it.

As soon as someone "leaves" that pod, you have now entered Unreal Dress up in Space sans the shooting. I'm not going to claim I know what other games people play. But judging from the posts I've skimmed over in this thread, a lot of people here at least play (or have played) either a third, or first person shooter. That means for us, camera movement is awkward. It's like I've been an Olympic athlete running Triathlons in other games, to being shot in the spine and becoming a paraplegic in this one.

The main point being is that movement in space, and movement in CQ are two totally different beasts. When you are in CQ, your WSAD keys are absolute. Nothing, and I mean, absolutely nothing should prevent movement. It does not matter if another window is open, or what not. As soon as I hit the W key, I expect my character to move forward. Period. The only exception to this rule, is when you are typing in a text input, for instance, The chat box. But as soon as I hit the enter key, focus should return to the character.

I for one am used to having to repeatedly press enter, or Y or U or some other key to bring focus to the chat box. If I want to search for something inside a hangar, I don't mind clicking on that search box to type in it. But as soon as I hit enter after text is entered, I expect to see the focus return to the character, not remain in the box.

Bleh. I guess I'm just complaining, seeing as I have an extensive MMO background. When I have a character that walks around, I expect the feel of other MMO's. I know this isn't wow, but consider that WoW had camera and movement down to a science.

The first step is done!

Thank you CCP for you brave deployment of Incarna.
Obviously many ppl started to complain about uselessness ect ect. Regular: they don't fully unterstand CCP's "avant-garde philosophy"...

Now some personal suggestions:
1. You should make it possibile to separately scale CQ and in space graphics. The shader quality has a profound impact on overhall performance while in station.
2. The random TV screen content is nice, but I'm shure you can make it more usefull (do you?)
3. Interactivity is the key to success: CQ should be more interactive.
4. I find that the full 3D UI is useless untill you completely remove the old UI: you should push the players to use it!
5. The difference in size of vessels should be more clear (and more spectacular for big ships)
6. Loading times have to be optimized, it takes about 30 seconds for me to load the quarters graphics
7. Allow players to decide whether to stay or get off the ship.

I still have to test the other new features, other feedback incoming!
Good Job CCP

exact same problem here.. the quick solution they need to do would be to have 2 different sets of video options. one for in station, one for out of station. otherwise this "expansion" is completely unusable to people like you and i. my case has awesome airflow but this almost destroyed my card (very hot gpu temp). i can get back down to normal temps if i put all graphics settings to low while in cq, but it's either that or disable... disabling is easier than switching back and forth.

add CQ-specific video options please!!!

Well, triple-boxing is not easy after the expansion! Running 3 EVE clients on an Intel i7, 8 MB RAM, Windoze 7 64-bit, GeForce 460, 2 Screens. My feeling is that even a really high-end PC won't handle three clients without lag?

It's LAGGY! alt+tabbing to firefox is also laggy, and firefox itself is laggy. ALl CPU cores are working like hell...

This also means that it runs faster having two toons undocked and cloaked up rather than having them in CQ. Thats risky of course. There be bubbling peeps out there!
Also means that it's more "fuzz" switching ships for your toons, trading items between toons in same station etc etc etc...

...Guess it's time to get a new graphics card. Thanks CCP, I needed that! My 460 GTX is only 6 months old. NVidia will love you CCP!

This is a game about internet spacesh....no wait! It's a game about internet vanity! ;-)
