Hi All,

I need to buy a new laptop and will go straight to Ubuntu. I want to run EVE under Wine and am looking for solid performance. Any advice on the laptop brand to buy, graphics cards to avoid and processors to prefer?

thanks in advance

you're gonna want an intel processor (core 2 quad seems to work fine, but anything higher will work too) as well as at least an Nvidia 9800 video card, stay away from ATI and AMD for now and for the easiest results use the 32 bit version of ubuntu (though 64 bit will work with minimal fiddling)

4 gigs of ram will allow you to run multiple clients.

hope this helps.

I've been eyeballing http://www.system76.com for a while now. I haven't read any reviews for them or anything, but it might be a good starting place for you.

I have a hp pavilion dv8 and is very happy with that.

I would say the the most important issue is to get a NVIDIA graphics card if you want the minimum problem.

Thanks guys. So Intel processor, NVIDIA card and the rest is (ought to be) straight forward. This will be my work laptop so I can spend a little bit more. Any comments on this one?
