FEDERATION MARINES DEPLOYED ON DIRERIE III TO COUNTER UDI INSURGENCY

Direrie - The Minister of Defence has announced the deployment of several battalions of Federal Marines from the 1st Border Defence Rapid Reaction Force to the state of Ormand on Direrie III, to commence counter-insurgency operations against several UDI cells operating in the area. Following a bombing at Le Gracieux finishing school last week in Ormand's capital city that killed and injured up to as many of 500 young women and girls, the terrorist group United against Decadence and Impurity, better known as the UDI, immediately claimed responsibility for the act, and have begun perpetrating several acts of civil disorder and terrorism across the Ormand state. Local security forces, including gendarme paramilitaries from neighbouring states, rapidly found themselves unable to cope with the threat, with Ormand immediately petitioning the Governor of Direrie for Federal support.

The UDI, most notorious for the Elarel Massacre which saw then-President Foiritan narrowly missing an assassination attempt, have mostly sunk into the background as one of the Federation's many ideological terrorist groups, though the top 100 of the FIO's Most Wanted is still dominated by UDI operatives, with many government and corporate agents regularly contracting independent capsuleers to strike UDI operations in space. Though they continue to cause alarm and terror across Federation worlds, this is the first time in several years that Villore has publically sanctioned central military action to counter the UDI threat. In most cases, private military firms contracted by local governments or the Federation Army or Air Force (if franchised) are the first to combat any hostile threats. The case of Direrie III has many analysts concerned that the terrorists are being funded by Caldari interests on the other side of the Border Zone, the constellation of which the world is home to. In most cases, the UDI exploit the working and underclasses found on worlds with a very large income gap between upper and lower wealth groups. However, Direrie III, with its relatively low population of two billion, does not hold a notable Minmatar and/or underprivileged population who would otherwise be vulnerable to the UDI rhetoric.

In response to allegations of off-world and/or foreign support, Federation Customs forces deployed in the system have focused their attention in monitoring all traffic proceeding to and from Direrie III. Mechanized infantry have begun garrisoning the capital city of Ormand, with drone forces branching out to cover other cities and smaller towns/villages. Local police have begun arresting unruly protesters who are disgruntled by Federal intervention, while the city's AI has been temporarily taken offline for security concerns, with Brigadier Sarah J Klerque apologizing for any inconvience, stating that "Ormand's automated systems will be returned to full operation as soon as it is deemed safe to do so".
