I am unable to launch the Mac client as installed by Steam.

Despite having Steam *verify* the integrity of the installation, (cache and/or settings,) the game won't get past the initial (rectangle) splash window. Otherwise the Steam interface considers the game installed and "ready to play".

I was left impotent at the task for some hours despite trying out a myriad of plausible solutions until I then updated Python (on Snow Leopard,) after which most of my troubles went away. Finally it seems I've got some display or graphics issues left over, and yet my ingenuity is now all-out-of-minutes! :)

The following log entries seems most poignant (to me):

0002:trace:module:GetModuleFileNameA C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe
0004:fixme:macdrv_gdi:MACDRV_DC_BitBlt No dest surface.
Probably trying to draw to a window, which isn't supported currently.

A full client install (download from eve site directly) has worked fine before; but this one (from Steam) won't.
Any suggestions?

Presuming there might've been a conflict with files from an older (non-Steam) installation, I uninstalled the game, nuked "~/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/eve online", as well as "~/Library/Preferences/EVE Online Preferences", and re-installed the game (through Steam); now, not only does it load but it also wants to run a 2 GB update!

Looks like the Steam install is (much) older than the CCCP site download so perhaps that's why the two didn't play well together.
