Where can I get a link to manually patch? The link in the download page only goes up to 1.5.

Has CCP considered the concept of releasing the patches to a download cache on our machines the DAY BEFORE it GOES LIVE?

That way, we don't have to wait until up time to download 550mb (for a render engine) before logging on.

Sure there is some last minute tweaks, but that is due to a bad test strategy, but even with that you can still last minute deploy a SMALLER patch.

I don't see why this cannot be done as I'm sure you have frozen your release a day or so before (or maybe even futher before) going live.

Just suggesting because there is customers here where patch day is very painful. (Kind of like trying to play Blu Ray, or sodomizing oneself with a Blu Ray box)

no point in letting everyone d/l something that even CCP doesnt know wether it will work properly when patched onto TQ.

As a general rule, the release date is called that for a reason.

And people, this isn't a Flash game. At least make some effort to keep your gaming rig outfitted with hardware made in the last decade.

How about adding to this patch:

Noctis is the ultimated salvager but a pain to pull out the loot out of the wrecks spec. when running ratting sides usaly clean up takes way longer then the site it self.

So, since the Noctis is spec. in Salvaging why not auto. pull the loot directly into the cargohold. Its kinda frustrating and nerv breaking open close open close container to drag and drop loot into the cargohold specialy in drone land since there is no bounty and you have to count on the loot.

Hopefuly you will add this future to the next patch ;)

Damnit CCP... I traded gaming nights with the wife so I could go on my first ever POS shoot... I even sat and watched episodes of Gossip Girl FFS to be able to get on that op... and now you smoosh (rush) a patch in right at that time.

Right now... I hate you. I love your game, but I still hate you.

Gotta agree with this one. Less than 24 hours notice for a major non-emergency downtime isn't acceptable. I find it inconceivable that CCP didn't know before today that this patch would be needed.

Also leery of the graphics engine update. Character creator performs approximately crap on my (1.5 year old) Mac with high quality shaders, and mis-renders the hair with low quality ones. The graphics card handles everything else I throw at it just fine, so what's Eve's problem?

Pretty is nice. Gameplay and correctness are way more important. Which is why I'll still happily buy and install 10 year old games in preference to newer A1 titles, and why I wait at least 6-12 months for buying most modern games: when you can't dazzle the customer with your rendering engine and art assets, you actually need to make the game high quality and fun. Trading off robust gameplay for pretty graphics is a fast path to high customer burn.

I bought this game for the gameplay. Don't make me leave it because you bury the gameplay beneath pretty but badly performing graphics.

Will this visibly change the UI or is this patch simply preparing for the Incarna patch and CQ on the 21st? there seems to be some confusion about that.

There isn't a direct correlation between those. You can have DX9 and an SM3 GPU, or you can have an SM2 GPU and DX10.
Furthermore, there is nothing wrong with DX9. As far as I can tell, it was updated as recently as June 2010.
There is some correlation between DX9 and operating system: Windows XP is associated with DX9, Vista is associated with DX10, and 7 is associated with DX11. I think there are some third-party attempts at making it possible to use DX10 or even 11 on Linux and maybe Windows XP too, but I have no idea how mature those projects are at this point.
DX10-only software will not be prevalent for a good while yet, and DX10-only MMOs are even farther away. For good reason.

Frontloading can work and work very well. The patch comes out several days before lauch and is streamed to the clients and placed in to a holding area. As more QA work is done smaller updates are also pushed out so when the trigger is sent the big patch + fixes all unpacks and sorts itself out.

In theory.

Or your left downloading the full client again because your ISP thought packets should go in circles for a bit and random *******s was the order of the day.

It can work but you need to put in a ton of error handling code before you think about sending it in to the wild. You also need to make sure the package you brought from places like Akiami covers doing that.

I find it inconceivable that ppl are playing this game on a old typewriter.Shocked
And stranger still, they apparently would like for the rest of the world to also play it on a typewriter, or atleast not be able to enjoy modernized code.
It all made a bit more sense when I realised that these people is also not able to read patch notes. Let me put them in Stupid for you;
Quote:
CHANGES
We are making this game better. To do that we need, among other things, to improve graphics. So we just designed one of the most awesome graphics engines ever to be utiliced in gaming industry, just to allow you to walk 20 meters, and to make use of it we are swapping out the old code with this new stuff.
This also buggered the Fleet UI, so we added a smaller patch to fix that.

Please note that nowhere does it mention anything about discontinuing services, nor does it say anything about fixing any bugs or anything else.
Now please stop crying. It is not CCPs fault that you secretly likes to watch girly shows, or that you bought a product whos logo is a halfeaten apple. And seriously, if your unemployment benefits doesnt allow you to upgrade your computer, you should really, really consider giving socialism a try. Twisted Evil
Its so working for me.Laughing

I don't think the problem lies so much with eve, but your engine. Judging from what I've heard, Carbon is quite different from normal game engines. For instance, I have a horrid graphics card (ATI Radeon = shizzle in a bad way.), it handles almost everything, but not the new character creator. But it might simply be glitches in the actual engine... I dno. Seemed to look the same at last fanfest, when it was projected on the big-screen.. Minor glitches with the physics of hair and clothing, etc.

But seriously. You cannot expect a Mac to run a video game as well as a PC. Atleast not in all cases. As someone said earlier in this thread, Macs aren't primarily gaming platforms, and as far as I know, CCP and Apple aren't the same company, ergo, this isn't CCP's fault. You can't expect them to make such colossal changes to their game engine just to suit the vast minority of people who use a mac to play eve. It's not a sound business plan.

After all, programming is time consuming as heck, and the Carbon engine is a massive feat all in itself, as revealed at the last Carbonfest Confused

EDIT: I forgot one thing in this post.. When people say that there have been no good UI changes; Does anyone remember the first UI? When you had to switch between seeing high/mid/low slots? When they changed it to the little circles on the right of your cap/hp/velocity display, I'd say that was a good day for the eve UI. When they grouped turrets? Also awesome. Sure, it's not perfect, but it's not bad at all.

CCP has one of if not the most mature and intelligent user base of any MMO. So quit alienating us by treating us like little children. You can't make us happier with new shinies instead of fixes for problems that are years old.

It is good that CCP keeps wanting to improve the customer experience, but it seems they are getting out of touch with what their customers want. Eve became a success because of great gameplay. Our gameplay is pew. Market pew, rat pew, mission pew, wormhole pew, industry pew, mining pew and most of all pew pew. Make the pew better. Then make it shinier.

It's been fun...but the system I have just won't cut it. Maybe I'll come back when I can find full time work and can afford a new one.

Then again, I didn't come to eve for it's cutting edge graphics. It was just a fun game to play. It's too bad they chose improving graphics over fixing all the things that didn't work with the game. They've seriously gone overboard for eye candy in the last couple of years.

Good update and new UI system is really fast.
But I dont like optional patches because they re-downloading each time I'm using sisilauncher or repair tools on other test clients and this is really annoying Crying or Very sad

ps: so many people in this thread who cant't read. This patch makes your client faster not slower. Stop whining before you try it ffs.

While CCP Spitfire's announcement is a bit last minute, the Incursion Features page has been detailing the timing and content of the Incursion 1.6 update since before the release of Incursion 1.5. I know it isn't exactly the place we bitter vets are conditioned to be looking for release notices, but it has been there. Personally, I hope it is a practice that is continued with the staggered expansion release model. That begs the question, why no Incarna page now that there is a release date?

Since the UI is not only our window into New Eden but our hands as well, I share your concerns. I believe it was the corification™ of the UI in Dominion that resulted in windows that were aggressively belligerent in their refusal to remember their place. Pinning them seemed to aggravate them even more. If the differences between the Sisi and TQ environments make 100%, spot on, defect free expansions an improbability, imagine the challenge of a major graphics overhaul to a client that has to run on at least four supported operating systems and thousands of different hardware combinations. While I am patient and understanding, I do find the possibility of having to PVE again against the UI so soon, unsettling.

Without knowing exactly what it is that you throw at you hardware, and since you weren't specific about the model of your graphics card, I can only assume Eve's problem has to do with the part I highlighted. Still, if CCP is going to claim to support your hardware, they should support your hardware.

You very well know the game play reasons why there is no autopilot warp to 0 km.

I'm assuming you are just chucking it in there to be fashious and derail the thread.

As for your other comment about a UI that looks like a spaceship, i hope that is coming too. From what i've seen this update is a step closer to making that happen.

you're aware this is not an UI issue but a gameplay issue, right? The things they do to UI has nothing to do with your ability (or inability) to warp at 0 in auopilot.
They won't let you autopilot to 0, because this will encourage AFK-playing. People who actually sit on their computers must get some sort of bacon (reward) for doing so, compared to afk'ers, and warping to 0 is that bacon.

Think of it this way; Concord has a regulation stating that capsuleer piloted ships should warp to 15km away from gate when autopiloted, for security reasons.
