Would I have to purchase a new paint job for each ship? Which could get very expensive. Or will we have effectively unlocked a paint job which we can apply to any ship we own?
We haven't decided exactly what we will charge for paint jobs or what the exact mechanics will be. One thing is for sure if it's too expensive no one will buy it so it has to be priced fairly. My main concern is that we keep the "perpetual machine" intact. By that I mean you should still have to obtain materials and build your ship and use that to claim better space with better materials to build better ships. So while I can't say with certainty if you will purchase an unlimited "license" for a certain paint job or if you will purchase consumable "nano paint" I can say that we're going to do everything we can to make the pricing fair and keep gameplay intact.

Will everything buyable with Aurum (that name... seriously?) be available at initial character creation, or will there be obvious "I paid RL money for this" items?

I can afford this sort of thing, and Eve's heading in the right direction for me (with walking in stations / comprehensive sci-fi universe).

Therefore, I don't mind buying the items, which will help CCP/Eve to thrive in the long-term (and hopefully, forever).

There is no overlap between those groups of goods. It will be visible and obvious what has been purchased or acquired - more so when public spaces are opened up.

I'm sure someone with deep wallets will gladly broker the exchange, though Razz

Seriously, no one is going to trade in a currency that is worthless to them, so unless the mercs are known for being a cut-throat band of fasionistas you probably won't see this kind of trade happening.

I'm willing to concede your opinion that avatars in stations is sci-fi rather than purely spaceships and I would even agree that CCP is a for profit business. What I strongly disagree with and would like more explanation on is why this is immersion breaking in your opinion.

I thought, the Plex was intended to legalize the sale of ISK for RL.
PLEX will now have far greater value. I fear that instead of having to work to limit the sale of ISK for RL, from the Plex becomes a tool, which in turn increases the external influences on the economics of the game.

Whilst i like the idea this has me worried.

another currency? why?

from breaking down plex? why?

players can then sell the items for isk? so why do it in first place?

I am all for ambulation and immersion ( or whatever the hell its called these days )but its little things creeping in like this that scare me

I'm perfectly happy with this as long as I can shoot the idiots who spend rl cash on vanity items and steal said vanity items.

as long as I can enjoy your stuff after you have paid for it, I support this 100%. however, if I can't take your stuff and am left with the choice of buy it I'll rage.

also, who is going to spend real money on ship decals etc? presumably as has been posited you are going to let people buy designs and logos as one time deals and re-use them indefinitely?

allowing people to add value to their eve online accounts .. so that when they get hacked and wiped out they cry louder than ever?

When I accept a fleet invite, stop sending me to the fleet finder page and just show me the fleet composition or better yet, take me to the broadcasts window now I'm actually in a fleet. Fix hybrid-using ships. Improve FW. I could go on.

I guarantee all that read this: this will be the first "development" in years that CCP will actually spend time on with a constant influx of "improvements". They won't leave this bad boy alone, I assure you.

because in this way eve online looks more like free2play then what is supposed to be. more "panem et circenses" and not focus on important things. change the name from ccp in "little factory of bs" more appropriate.

It's funny to me that people who play a game that's hyper-capitalistic have issues with new currencies and new things to buy in said game.

Or even better. Let someone else buy the stuff for AUR, put it on the market, then you can buy it for isk.

EVERYTHING that is going to be sold by us for Aurum, will be able to be contracted, traded, put on the open market, given away, etc.

I believe that the EVE books published referenced pod pilots and the cleaning and security associated with entering and exiting the pod. I will have to go reread and confirm but I am pretty sure they exited the pod naked and showered before they would dress.

The side effect of using this interpretation would be the pilot would have to buy clothes at every station or have them in cargo to use them wherever he docks.

Because it has nothing to do with important internet space ships, it really dosen't. All it is is adding another paid for currency into eve. Now people have to manage three types isk, plex, and to be arum. Why not just use isk and plex please?
Eve is not about flair; it's about a player driven economy and destruction and, so far even those two aspects are not working correctly so CCP i strongly urge you to focus on the core mechanic of EVE and stop adding flair, we do not want to become another average mmo, you are losing your shine and unique appeal

Immersion is a subjective and individually determined experience which people buy, within limits affected by social dynamics.

So I presume he is coming at it from the angle of "the gameplay that I am sold on is that of FiS" where - normal human behaviour this - any potential of that primary experience being affected by (in this case the introduction of) a secondary angle of gameplay can very easily be seen as a threat to the experience.

Think of topics like hardware requirements (aside of the commercial aspects of that debate), performance measurements, UI access to mechanisms, etc. Or even just the emotional "fear" of CCP perhaps forgetting about or not taking care of the FiS foundation of EVE. It's got a lot less to do with facts, than it has to do with emotion. It remains relevant however, since it's the emotional connection that sells and keeps (<3 Greg & Beta at FF).

I wouldn't worry though. He's probably just a bitter vet still telling his kids at night of the good old days of nano. Good communication and consistant clarity can deal with that, and I'm seeing a good amount of that in this thread. Regardless of some discrepancies such as storylines vs clothes in pod.

I'm still sofar missing kittens in Incarna though. Maybe there will be a petshop. I vaguely remember something now, hm ....

Anyway, kittens!

The coolest items would be ones earned through in-game merit or achievement - so you could push for items such as this.

An important reason for me buying in-game items is to assist funding CCP so they can further improve Eve Online on every front.

I'm fine with microtransactions for vanity items like these. They're an acceptable way to improve revenues, since it makes people feel better about what they've got without compromising the integrity of the game and its economy. However, because this is important, it cannot be stressed enough:

If Mictro-transactions become a requirement for non-vanity items in any way, shape, or form, you're ramming every ounce of credibility you have through the shredder. Don't go back on your promise not to introduce them.

Originally by: CCP at the October meetings with CSM5
CCP is open to diversifying its business model, and exploring virtual goods is neither evil nor bad. However the idea of oly the rich kids being the best does not sit well with CCP and that situation will be prevented through any means necessary.

CSM5 and CSM6 have voiced strong and consistent disapproval of non-vanity, game affecting micro-transactions in each meeting they were discussed. The vocal consensus of people who play eve today do not look to approve the idea of microtransactions buying a tangible advantage in game.
