RIP Jason Galente, untimely taken from New Eden before the release of EVE: Incarna.

Cause of Death: Heart attack after watching trailer.

Quick Question to the Dev Team if they read this: Will integration between Dust 514 and EVE be seen (in whole or part) in Incarna?
If so, I best be saving up my ISK to buy my mercenary army for galactic domination >:D

Either that, or get some Quafe... decisions decisions decisions..

Also, for the people whining about performance, even this old piece of junk computer gets enough FPS to run CQ perfectly smoothly. Any improvements are welcome but its doing pretty well.

In three years, those of us using Macs will have refreshed to a post-Sandybridge machine, with a discrete graphics processor or at least the option of adding a discrete GPU with dedicated VRAM externally using Thunderbolt (but then, it's capped at 16x and will use all available bandwidth). We'll be just as happy as everyone else with the graphics in the game.

The issue is that right now, people playing EVE on Macs and older PCs/laptops will be using integrated chipsets such as the GeForce 9400M (where "M" stands for "Mobile" as in "****s your system's RAM bus because we're too cheap to add VRAM") or low-end discrete graphics chipsets such as the ATI Radeon X1900 (with a whopping 256MB of VRAM).

In the current build on Duality, I can't even open the fitting window - it animates all the fitting slots, but then fails to show what's in those slots and none of the calculated details are present (resistances, sig radius, cargo space, drone capacity, sub-warp velocity, etc).

As of June 21, these people will not be able to play the game unless they are already undocked and living out of a POS. No mission running, no trade, no contracts, no manufacturing, no research.

Out of curiosity, from someone unable to access Duality: are those experiencing performance deficiencies with CQ able to play EVE at its maximum settings in space without a hitch?

The systems we tested Incarna on at Fanfest 2008 seemed to do fine, and they would easily be quite average PCs in 2011.

GREAT
In fairness, the statements that none of the functions currently possible without Incarna would require additional work as Incarna rolls out (i.e. walking to them) were true. If I recall correctly (and maybe I don't), they never said we wouldn't have to perform station functions from our quarters, but that we'd never have to walk the stations for them. Since you now start in your quarters (as opposed to the 2008 alpha that dumped you into the middle of the station), that's true.

Loading times on Duality are not at all representative of the finished product as we've stated before. Duality has been running a very early test version and we've done very little optimization yet.
You could have it load in minus 7 seconds, that won't matter. If I am FORCED to play Sims in Space when I paid to play Spaceships in Space, I will simply quit Eve as will the vast majority of players. CCP is either too stupid or drunk to see this. Evil or Very Mad

tl;dr We don't want WoW in space, stop trying to force it on us.

ugh Huh? So because, like every other MMO, you can finally see your character and have actual HUMAN interaction (before it seemed like space ships, not people, interacting) it's like WoW? Not even remotely, and I doubt that more than a handful of players out of the hundreds of thousands dislike this for any reason other than concern over performance issues on lower end computers. I'm talking from experience here as I have played many MMOs: CCP is great about user-friendliness, content updates, and general awesomeness, so shut your trap and learn some respect for the greatest MMO dev team ever, or leave EVE if you don't like it. will the hangers have better lighting or is this a case if you're flying a dark ship and happen to be minmatar you're out of luck. I mean throw some spot lights on them so you can at least get a half decent visible silhouette.

My system specs

AMD Phenom II x4 965BE 3.4ghz Newegg price $140
ASUS motherboard Newegg price $95
8gig of Gskill ram Newegg price $95
Coolermaster HAF tower Newegg price $150
ASUS geforce gtx 570 dcII Newegg price $350

Whats a newegg ?

You know not everyone lives in usa :P

Us other "mere mortals" around the world have considerable smaller wages and higher prices on components (yes its called monopoly)in the comparison to someone other...

I must say i understand people that cant upgrade right now, and they should not upgrade just for a computer game if they cant right now...

I mean i have probably among the lowest specs here, and i am sure that it will work on my configuration...

But i think those people preaching how its easy to upgrade are only looking narrowly at things...

To these people:
It would be great if the whole world lives in conditions as you live in ... but sadly that is not the case so you have to have an bit of understanding :P

If you want to recommend someone "how its easy to upgrade" recommend in relation to average component availability and prices in that someones country in comparison to average salary in that country...

Or...

You want to say that eve online is exclusively a game for usa players ?

No. The systems I have require shadows off, depth effects off, low shaders, medium detail, medium textures: GeForce 9300M, ATI Radeon X1900. In fairness, the iMac is 5 years old and I'm planning on replacing it next year, when the second generation of Thunderbolt equipped iMacs is released. The current generation use AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 512MB of memory (the 27" model can be ordered with an AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 2GB GDDR5).

The machine on my desk at work is a 24" iMac with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro, 256MB of memory, and even this machine needs some detail levels turned down in order to play EVE smoothly (mostly due to the lack of video RAM). The 6770M with 512MB of memory might run CQ smoothly with medium detail, but I expect that full detail CQ will require more than 512MB of memory for the GPU.

CCP are coming up against the issues that have plagued FPS shooters for years: at some point you have to compromise on vertexes, polygon count, size and number of textures, number of lights, etc. The computer I buy next year will be able to run CQ just fine. The computer I've got right now will burn up in a cloud of magic blue smoke.

They did a demonstration a while back where there was a button on the Neocom that you could use once docked to "Enter Quarters". Docking left the view as it currently is: camera bobbing over the ship in the hangar.

Aye, I remember that, although I thought it was ‘Enter Station,’ or something to that effect, before CQ became the starting point for Incarna.

I agree that the hangar view should remain, even if only from the lore geek perspective that I like to peer from (if I can ‘talk with’ the station from within the capsule, why bother getting out to flop around the deck?), I'm just not sure their assurance of continuing to be able to perform all current station functions from one place has turned out to be technically wrong. Maybe it's a stretch and I'm a smelly fanboy.

Agreed. Please let this be optional. If the character creator is any indication of the computer requirements for Incarna, I am out of luck. I get approximately 1 FPS when I am in the character creator.

I specifically recall being told incarna would be "EXTRA" and that we'd be able to do everything we can do in station from our pods. I also recall being told you'd be able to make a phone call to agents at some point. Ya know like from space?

Look, people can sit here and say 'Oh just spend $100 on a new graphics card'. Sure some people will do that. Some people won't. Some people can some people can't.

Simple fact of the matter is, very few MMOs change their system specs once the game is already released. Eve has done it a few times sure. Trinity was one large example of this, then dominion for new PI, then recently with the dropping of shader 2 support. All well and good, all well documented, all with accompanying discount deals through CCP for new cards.

Now this one. A change that had every indication of being an optional one. One where quite a few players are reporting issues with it. I can run a full graphics client with little to no issues, I can run 2-3 and it's a little choppy. But I get 5 FPS when I try to play CQ. That's simply ******ed slow.

CCP's Demo from fanfest 2008 was one where ambulation was optional. Why remove the optional function of ambulation?

This isn't a whine, this isn't, 'OMG this is awful'. It's just a simple question. Why did CCP remove the option NOT to tax our systems beyond their ability? It's not like the code wasn't there for it. We can see it in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7R6AxoO8yY .

Some people can run this fine, and great, fantastic, enjoy it.

Many can not, and while an upgrade to parts of eve that you can't escape, like ships in the trinity expansion, would warrant an update. An expansion that has no impact other than load times in stations should be able to simply be told not to load. I don't mind if my station view is a black screen. Just please allow us as players to determine if we want to walk around in stations and therefore run the fairly beefy new system specs or not.

And also, plz don't delete my boot.ini again.

well its not that bad, i can still trade in jita from a safespot, the only thing i need to dock for is hauling materials, the rest is doable via contracts and remote manufacturing/research/trade skills.

too bad assets update longer than inventory :(

because they don't care about EVE anymore, but they do want free betatesters for their WoD engine.

Stroking my ship would be comically entertaining if that was possible.

I can see it now. I'm on a floating platform, headed for my beautiful ship. Then I place my hand on the hull, start petting it, and say "who's gonna blow up stuff up today? You are...yes you....".

...here's a thought that just popped into my head. Maybe we can pay a few thousand isk to have the metal polished so that our ships look extra shiny.

After all these years, Incarna is coming. Shocked
Seriously though CCP , i don't want to sound a jerk, but please consider having an option to turn CQ on/off.
While my home computer runs all this fine, i cannot say the same for the work computer. It has an old intel gpu and it barely struggles with current expansion. To give you a clue, i start the client and as soon as possible i enter the game i press f10 or f9 ( i currently don't remember Laughing) to load the solar system map. For some reason if i do this i get a 30% boost in fps Very Happy Even though i have clicked on do not load station background and it's just an image, this still applies.
Please consider this, either have an option to either render CQ or not, or make the client remember to boot in solar system mode Cool

2 or 3 years ago i wouldn't even consider asking this, but with the economic recession and stuff , i spent most of my time at work.....

For those of you ranting about CQ being a hindrance and threaten to unsubscribe without testing it, give it a chance. I can afford a decent system and commend ccp for advancing Eve. The idea of selling items face to face or a place to chill vs just spinning a ship is sweet. Don't be scared of change, be open to it. The working world evolves as does gaming, those that do not evolve with it are left behind. I can't believe how sweet the graphics are. Sad if some subscribers won't have the capital to upgrade to a nicer gfx card to see how sweet it really is. Well, you can't please everyone.

Please include the option to turn on and of some light/projectors in hangars to further enhance the view of the ship, it seems rather dark and its doesnt come to its full rights compared to the smoooooooooooth looks of the rest of the walkin graphichs.Very Happy

Anyways something to keep the ship in a enlighted and elevated level that steps up to the rest of the show Wink

This is very great news.

No matter what other people say, this is the best way for EVE to develop. Eve will grow drastically once there's some actual content in stations and that will benefit _all_ players.
