That's all well and good, if you can load the content. I bought my computer and saved what little money I have by not buying a top of the line video card. I'm simply terrified that my expensive, for my wallet, computer will not be able to run my favorite spaceships game.

I'm sure many other people are worried about this too, all they need to do is what they did at fanfest. An optional button that allows you to choose when you want to get out of your ship or not.

What hardware do you have in the computer? Unless it is a laptop I'm sure you can get a $//30 card that will get you going.

I see a lot of progress in the details shown in that video. Looks interesting.

Question: I assume the Incarna release will require a significant download to update the client. How soon will a boxed version with Incarna be available? Some of us have the worst imaginable internet with comparatively low bandwidth allowances; installing from a disc would be preferable.

I have a laptop with a 8400M GS videocard from 2006/7. CQ on Duality is very unplayable. I'm in the same boat as your are. But I understand that CCP will not stop creating and building the game that they intended to create because of my old laptop. We are a very small number with this issue. And I believe CCP with a decade of gaming industry experience, as well as building World of Darkness/Dust514 MMO can optimize performance of loading/showing us 1 tiny room with a good number of frames per second.

Anyhow. Looking forward to first steps, finally. Pun intended. Just please walk carefully when introducing Incarna.

You're hardly a minority. Consider for a moment the people playing EVE at work or using hardware from work, commonly notebooks with less focus on gaming. Similar to for example the common "family" OEM PC. Or even developing markets which are behind dominant regions due to economic differences.

As for aiming higher and higher, progressing with technology, sure. Ofcourse. Which also obviously contains seeking limitations and stability points, to cater to markets and trends. Think of mobile computing. As EVE expands, lower spec requirements will become a point from different angles.

Looks awesome, I can't wait to try it properly. Is there any chance though CCP of letting us have a look at other races quarters? even some work in progress stills would be great thanks.

Exactly this.

The game is changing and must do so continually in order to remain fresh, vibrant and attract new players. Oh, and also provide CCP a revenue stream so that they can continue to exist as a viable business. I'm looking forward to the next step in the evolution of Eve Online.

mate if the graphics it your issue why don't you just... wait a minute, what happen to the don't load station environment button?

also look out turrets and effects and all ships are being updated, as well as backgrounds. which will all also hurt your computer.

this one is all ammar.

I can do screenshots of the rest if your interested. I can do fly throughs on all of them. and actually I haven't tried ripping the newest client so the other ones might have textures to throw on them now too.

note the walkways all have the pod at the end of them. pretty cool.

If the don't load station environment button still exists, great. And as for the turret changes, at least those are significantly more bad ass than dress up dolls in station, and hopefully also able to be switched off. Thought admittedly it's a little lame that I can size up a ships specs from a glance at their guns.

With less than a month to go, I don't know what CCP is or isn't doing, but hopefully they'll make Ambulation optional, or at least as low on system load as flying in space with low graphics, and won't delete our boot.ini file in the process like they did in trinity.

Quote of the week, I think so YARRRR!!

Went on duality to see if things improved and wasn't surprised to see it hasn't. I loaded it up and opened the market window, went to search, typed in vargur, selected vargur, clicked on the blue show info button near the top of the market screen to view it's info. Through all of that I can safely say that the loading time was 10 times longer than on tranquility.

I respectfully request the ability to turn off my pointless avatar until I see the day where it will be profitable enough for me to turn it back on. The marketing team might think this will draw a crowd, but I highly doubt it even in its more mature forms. I am sure most people prefer better gameplay mechanics than flashy, shiny graphics. I don't think adding avatars to EVE will be justified until new PROFITABLE game mechanics can be added on top of it to make it actually useful to us pod pilots. If there is no profitable reason to leave our pods, why do so Laughing

Anyways, even after the optimizations people with lower end computers will request an "off switch" after seeing increased loading times. I'm sure you'll come around after the first day or two of release when people start screaming on the forums about the new useless avatar that jacks up load times Laughing

20,000 years in the future, mankind has made incredible technological strides. Faster than light travel and communications are the norm. Transcranial cyber implants are so common that their implantation doesn't even require surgery. These technologies are accessible to even the common man of New Eden for a modest sum, but we, the capsuleers, having cheated death to achieve immortality, the pariahs of New Eden, physical gods that roam the heavens, take these technologies beyond the wildest dreams of the wide-eyed entrepreneurs who would gleefully retire on a meager 100,000 ISK.

I am a body in a capsule. Through my capsule, my ship is a natural extension of myself. Through my capsule, I have achieved immortality. And now, through my capsule, I can reach out with my mind and be anyone I want to be. Through the puppet eyes of my avatars, I see the world outside. Through the hands of a remote body, I touch the metal outside of my capsule. Through the legs of a marionette, I stroll across the endless corridors of New Eden's stations. With the stolen form of another human being, deprived of their own soul, I bring my intangible immortality to both the privileged few who are allowed to talk to me in my capsule and the lowest dregs of society. For the first eight years of our lives, we capsuleers have dominated the galaxy from afar, but no longer; on a whim, we can take a keenly intimate, personal interest in your lives.

We have instruments of steel to rule the skies. With these instruments of flesh, we'll rule the realms of mere mortals.

Can I haz enter/exit pod animation or cutscene when docking or undocking as an alternative to the sterile and un-immersive loading bar we currently have? It would be appropriate, since with incarna we seem to leave the pod every time we dock.

It can be optional like all other animations and cutscenes, in order to satisfy those people who prefer performance and speed over beauty and immersion even in their docking operations.

I miss brightness sliders in current Incarna/CQ client. New login and quarters looks darker than usual EVE darkness, so my eyes bleeding after some time. I only can dream about levels and HSv adjustments, add at least brightness modifiers Crying or Very sad

Also when you launch Incarna promo site (http://www.eveonline.com/en/incarna or something else?)

It is implied, being a pc gamer, that you can afford to upgrade your hardware every few years. Always has been that way, and always will be that way.

I love sailing. Unfortunately I can't afford a boat, nor do I live near the ocean. I don't get to go sailing very often, so I found hobbies more suitable to my situation.

I hope new players have the option of not loading the station environment, and I sure as hell hope existing ones aren't either.

My main gripe is the engine for the character creator does horrible things for my laptop, which usually runs EVE In space at a steady 40FPS on close-to-max settings. I don't want to have to navigate my way through the station environment at 5FPS every time I generate a new character.

I bought a new computer this year, it's insanely unreasonable to expect the game that I can run 5 clients of with little issue to crap out because of a worthless graphical add on to the UI.

While very pretty and certainly nice for new players, the in space UI needs WAY more work than the in station UI, and adding dress up dolls to it is not the way to fix it.

Okay, so we have a date when we can be alone in our quarters. How about some idea of when we can at least socialize in them, even before we venture out into other parts of the stations?

In the past they said we would, but over time that changed to the stand of "it will not impact on performance or time of actions". So I presume - for now - that no matter how much it may be desired to opt out (for example when at work, or engaged in campaign, or because of being on the notebook, etc) that option will not be present.

Seriously, laptop people! When you buy a laptop you KNOW you buy a non-scalable system. When you subscribe to EVE you KNOW the game will not remain on the same tech level as it did on launch. Please, stop with the entitlement issues! The world does not adapt to you, you will have to adapt to the world, or die. If you insist on dying, please do it quietly.
[/rant]

OT:
I like, ship looks more awesome when docked, neocom is still there so no impact on doing stuff quickly (yes, I am still assuming ccp will get their optimization right, I will rain a ****storm personally if they don't after defending them :p). I'm eagerly waiting for the further iterations though, the most exciting thing about incarna was the idea of interaction, having corp meetings with your avatars and whatnot.

I agree that there are other things that can use work, but this time Incarna got the work. 5-boxers like yourself (I only run 2) are an issue, yes, and one that you've been spoiled with to this point.

On duality, same as on TQ now, a minimized client (even in CQ) drops to nearly 0 resource usage (other then mem obviously). So as long as you minimize each client instead of alt-tabbing, and you have 6-8g of ram, your probably over-reacting. All of that is for the windows users out there, I dont buy macs.
