I hear people talking about these ship classes but only 'carriers' appears on the market - are the others manufactured only and not sold? Also what is the difference between them and what roles do they fulfill? Thanks!

Supercarriers == Motherships

Supercarriers (and Titans) can only be built by alliances, so there is almost no chance that you'll ever see a sell order on the market for them.

Correction: There is zero. Supercaps cannot dock, therefore they cannot be put up to sell.

nope its possible... there are several cases where a Nyx has been reimbursed to a player in to their station. He could then theoretically repackage it and sell it on the market.

This is also how new high sec capitals are introduced (apart from the relics that were made before the rule change)

as for the terms
motherships: technically no longer exist
supercarriers: these WERE motherships but CCP realized that they were really just suped up carriers so hence the name change. These require racial carrier skill at lvl 3
carriers: they can dock and only require racial carrier lvl 1

both super carriers and carriers are under the same category in the market but you'll probably never see a SC on market

Ummm...on that note it only applies to low sec and nul for the super carrier reimbursement. As for high sec caps yes it is possible. However CCP instituted a ban for anyone selling a cap in high sec. At least according to their rules stated on wiki. Now as to whether or not they would enforce that I'm not sure about. I know it is a ban if someone uses a cap that is in high sec to for combat purposes.
