HI there, I have been running EVE for several months now on an iMac 27" i5 2.8GHz 4GB RAM with ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB graphics card running OS X 10.6.7 and all updates applied, and after playing for a couple of hours I start to get pauses in the frame rate, every second, on the second. I recently installed an additional 4GB RAM so now I have 8GB RAM. This hasn't improved what I am seeing.

I have uploaded some screen captures of the in-game frame rate graph (accessed via CTRL+F) at so that you can see what I mean. Please note that the 'dips' in the graph start out subtle and gradually over time, get deeper and deeper until you see what I have here, then continue to get progressively worse until the entire frame rate drops down to below 20fps. Restarting the client makes the problem go away, until another couple of hours pass then the dips/pauses start again.

Would be interested to know if anyone else has this problem on an iMac 27". For me, the problem isn't specific to this machine. My older 2008 MacBook Pro did exactly the same thing, though it's starting frame rate was appreciably lower at about 30fps at most.

I have also prepared some screen grabs of the monitor as well at (scroll down the image to see the Memory and Performance tabs. The dips in the Memory tab are while I was docked. Also note the gradual decline in the frame rate (red line) in the Performance graph.

Graphics settings can be seen in I have these set somewhat low to help increase performance, and have tried setting everything to minimum/off and also to maximum/on, but see the same issue regardless.

Finally, I have tried playing the game entirely by itself with no another applications running, TIme Machine disabled, etc, and again this makes no difference. My gut feeling is that the Cider client is reaching some internal limit, but I would expect everyone to have the same problem in that case. I have also tried at times, completely removing and downloading/installing a fresh copy, again, no difference.

Would anyone out there have any ideas what is going on here? Would love to hear from you :)

Well this is interesting to me.

When I first installed the client on Mac the game was a bit choppy as I'm running a standard white macbook and only had 2GB at the time. I upgraded the memory to 4GB and everything began to run smooth.

But something has happened in the last few weeks where I get periods of poor performance where the frame rate seems to pulse up and down. So if I'm warping then it really shows the issue - and you can clearly see the fps drops badly every 1 - 1.5 seconds. I must graph it. When it happens it's constant and predictable.

Sometimes it's a nightmare - other times it's not a problem at all. But I can't remember seeing the issue when I first installed Eve.

So - the detail:

I'm running a Macbook 6,1
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M (256 VRAM)
Mac OS X 10.6.7

Who knows what could be causing this.

I have had this happen due to heat buildup.

Someone else had it happen due to his habit of leaving his character sheet open all the time.

I swear I've found a work around for this issue - works for me at least and shows that it's code related not heat etc.

When I start getting these rhythmic pauses in frame rate (if you ctrl and f - you can see a pattern like a saw edge it's so regular, dipping once per second) - I ALT and TAB out of the game screen, pop up a browser and then go back to the game screen. This seems to clear the problem.

Go figure.

Interesting. I run a similar Imac to the OP, slightly lower spec (i3 with lesser graphics card). I do not get frame rate deterioration at all but I nearly always have Safari running in the background as well as mail.

I had the same issue not much time ago. I realized that it was caused by the training queue skill window, wich i had pinned and minimized on the screen.
It lagged every second = every tick of the skill queue time. Closing the window and just opening it when i really need to check solved the issue til now.
Hope it helps, helped on a past thread when others had the same problem.

Thanks to everyone that has responded. It would seem that keeping the Market, Character Sheet, and Training Queue windows closed has fixed my issue. I used to keep them open but minimized to a title bar for easy access and since stopping this behaviour, I haven't seen the issue. Thanks so much! :)
