How can I find out who killed me? I was one-shotted after jumping through a gate. I was pretty beat up after a mission and should have taken a few minutes to repair and recharge before jumping in lowsec.
Also, I think he was able to lock and kill me all in the time that I started to warp. How is that possible?
Thanks, Inurmail |

Open your Character Sheet from sidebar, then click the Combat Log in the menu on the left, and go to the Losses tab. A record of all ships you've lost (except those which you selfdestructed) is shown here, and you can double-click on one for details of the kill. |

Time it takes for someone to lock you up can be under 0.7 seconds. With sufficient number of people you can be dead within a second. Even if it took longer you might have experienced lag and it seems instant.
Time it takes for something that doesn't need lock (like the thing that probably killed you - smartbombs) is instant. :) |

Welcome to EVE and being one shotted is a commonplace for new players until you have 3 years of Time Points on your character.......good luck waiting :) |

So how does this game attract new players and manage to keep them? Masochism at work? |

^^ This, not everyone gives up on things because they can't do something the first/second/third time they try it. Unfortunately myself I usually learn things from being an idiot, e.g really don't fly a pimped Tengu when ****ed (twice) s h i t shappens and you just learn not to drink so much Leffe next time |

Wrong. HP for a 1month player to a 3year player is only about 20% if that... Anyways you know how to check the kill mail now. And some ships are set up to lock fast and have a high alpha damage. For example a sabre/thrasher can fit a lot of artilaries that do a lot of dmg per shot but do not shoot very often. This large hit is called alpha. Artilaries have high alpha but low DPS. The sabre/thrasher fits 8 artialry specifically designed to kill frigates, a sensor booster to target you fast, and damage mods in the lows. A well fit thrasher/saber can one or two shot most untanked t1 frigates. You can stop this by fitting a bigger tank, or aligning faster with skills and nano fiber's in thelows. Lots of options. PS the thrasher/saber doing this is very squishy. |

To the OP:
It is possible to boost your scan resolution high enough to target another ship in less than half of a second by flying an interceptor and/or using sensor boosters. Because low sec gates can't have 'bubbles' on them (Prevents warping within a sphere), gate campers rely on being able to target people as fast as possible to get targets.

Since you don't know the proper name for skill points, I doubt you know much about when one-shotting drops off. It doesn't. If you are flying a ship that can be suicide ganked, then you might be suicide ganked. I've been in on a freighter gank. We sacrificed 20 battleships to insta-pop a freighter. Why would we do that? So many delicious faction towers within (we got them all, too!). I don't know the details of your gank OP, but it happens. Mark it down as a lesson learned, and you'll gain some respect from everyone. Throw in the towel and leave, and you'll never know how much you threw away. |
