Ok guys I need some knowledge from some awesome nerds regarding how Eve Voice works vs Teamspeak/Vent and other 3rd party voice programs.

It seems like when people use E-V it slows down the system in which they are in, is this true?

Is it hooked up to the same server/node/whatever? In otherwords does it create lag for gameplay?

The reason I ask is E-V in my exp is horrible and cuts out very often also seems to slow up other gameplay but I might be wrong maybe its just my internet conection that is struggling, I just wana make sure im not giving my self a plecebo and thinking E-V makes me slower when it dosnt.

Last;y I want to know this because for the amount of work the have put into EV and if it truly slows things down, [I know many peeps in many alli`s who told me they all get on Eve COmms to lag out Nodes for defense etc, but dont know how true?] I think it would be way better for CCP just to actually rent a totally separate Server with TS or Vent or Mumble and have basic Rooms with abilities to host a 10 man comms server, anymore would be up to players.

But with all the time and money put into it , it just seems more like a gimmick than anything of value. So please nerds explain how EV works so I can see if my Idea has any merit :)

EVE voice is a pain in the ass for me as in the EVE client push to talk is very unreliable for me. So for corp chat I use Eve Gate voice with the vivox plugin (that takes ages to install with lots of web browser hangs). But that only lets me use eve voice in corp chat.

Eve voice is used a lot in militia warfare with small fleets. I have heard it is never used in 0.0 large fleets. Maybe eve voice is P2P, I don't know.

Yeah it lags hardcore from what I have seen, anyone know how it works and if it stresses server for actual combat? If so I say yank out the bastard and make a deal with a 3rd party company for Voice. have each militia get 3 roaming channels, and some general channels etc

The time paid for making EV has to cost alot right?

EVE Voice uses a second server not related on the EVE client/server. That is why you can hear and talk to people even when sometimes the client crashes or hangs or whatever.

Why it laggs for some people I do not know, works always flawless for me.

I prefer TeamSpeak 3 over EVE Voice any time.
Here is a short list why;

TeamSpeak 3...
..is easier for switching channels. It's not limited to fleet or chatchannels.
..has an advanced API so you can set it up exactly on how you want it.
..is not limited to EVE. With me and my alliance mates playing different games, you want something solid that work everywhere.
..is very easy to set up. Advanced, but easy.
..has automated voice gain control, far better quality, lagg-free
..free 512 user license for gaming communities.
..doesn't crash when EVE crashes..

EVE Voice..
..is handy when you are in an incursion fleet and not willing to invite those annoying people on to your TeamSpeak 3 server.

Hope this helps.
