I am very interested in this. Would be glad to meetup anywhere in the vicinity. October seems rather far away tho. Wouldn't be opposed to something sooner, perhaps a summer get together at Opal Divine's?? Anyone?!? |

Here’s the thing about holding this particular meet up in Austin and on the weekend of October 8th. The Game Developer’s Conference Online 2011 (GDC Online 2011) is being held in Austin, TX October 10-13th. So…. What we are hoping is that maybe some of our favorite folks from CCP would maybe breeze in to town a little early and have a couple of drinks and some lively conversations. Hopefully that little tidbit will cause the Austin location and Oct 8th date to be a little more tantalizing. Dani |

Nothing saying it can't be both, might make CCP's attendance more likely if they're coming to an established event that has a regular known attendance. |

Dani,
I agree and totally support the October date and plan. However, I think Kate has a good point. We’d prolly get more attention from CCP if we had a real EVE community presence in Austin/Central Texas. Frankly, given the tech reputation this town has, I’m surprised that we don’t have a bigger EVE community than some other places posting in these forums.
I’ve been here since 07 and can’t remember ever having an EVE gathering. There have been several posts but nothing has materialized as far as I know. Both Houston and Dallas have had gatherings in the past, just seems like we should have something as well.
I didn’t mean to derail the OP, but I like the idea of starting some kind of EVE gathering for those that live in this area. With the GDC and even SXSW in town, I think we could get some real attention from CCP if we had a community presence.

Well, the date and time was suggested by CCP Dashi via e-mail. For me that indicates there may already be some CCP interest in having a meet up in Austin for this date, so I believe Acinom and I will go ahead and stick to Austin and October 8th. If you'd like to combine the Dallas and Austin event, that would be great. If not; two events are cool too. I'm sure some folks may not be able to to make one, but can make the other. I'm behind you 100% Iosue. Austin has too much to offer in the way of Tech/Gaming and sheer awesomeness to not have a meet up. I'll be speaking with Acinom eithe rtonight or tomorrow so we can proceed with planning. I've gotten two suggestions so far: Opal DivineScholz Beir GartenAny others before I start calling about and working the mojo? |

Keep Austin Wierd! I was also talking to my boss about different places and he mentioned Frank's too. The only thing that worries me is DT parking. Eek! |

Frank is a great choice, good food and drinks (bacon infused anything gets my vote). Agreed on the parking issues, but meh, that's just downtown in general. If we can schedule a little after happy hour and before the night gets going, we can probably squeeze in with little trouble. If we did it on a Saturday during the day, we could probably avoid parking issues altogether, unless a festival or something is going on. |

This is relevant to my interests. I live in Austin(12 years, now), work downtown, and spend more time in game than I'm proud to admit. Frank is alright, Opal's is cool, but check out Kung Fu Saloon, it's right around the corner from Opal's downtown. It's about 8-9 blocks from the Convention Center. Full bar arcade. http://kungfusaloon.com/austin/ Just a thought. I'm in wherever. |

It is very likely that there will be a developer contingent at GDC Online 2011 in Austin.
I'll be sure to beat them into submission to attend this.

********** UPDATE **********Unfortunately Kung Fu Saloon is out. :( However... I am currently talking to the management at Lavaca Street Bar (here's their Yelp page). They have a nice lite backroom area, several fun games, 21 flat screens and of course a nice bar and a slammin grill. (Plus it's still close to 6th street ) More updates to come soon! |

Utoh... Are you all going to let the ATX get taken over by WIdot? Is resistance futile? Will it be a WIdot local? Only one way to find out! |

Yes. Yes. Yes. If you do not use "The Facebook", but still want to RSVP for your swag; you are certainly welcome to do that here in the forums. As long as it's in one of those two places, you are good! It's more or less for head count and to make sure I have enough goodies. Also... I heard that one of the swag items is landed. Hopefully I can get Jason to post a picture of the amazing custom Not A Lot of News tee shirts that were done up! I also heard that another piece of swag was in production and will be arrived shortly. You'll just have to remain wrought with anticipation if you're curious about what it could be. I don't want you all getting too excited now. |
