So I was browsing Scrapheap/Failheap and saw a suggestion for a 100 pushups program. I debated doing it for a few days but ultimately decided that I could do it despite my historically low upper body strength. I've suggested it on Twitter to the #tweetfleet and #fitfleet ("Official" site), and several people are also going to be doing it. So I cordially invite you to do the 100 pushups program with us, and further invite you to join the #fitfleet for general health.

Right now, the #fitfleet is sharing activities on RunKeeper - but it supports many kinds of activities (even 'other' which I use for my lunch basketball games). If you can't run, feel free to record walks, bike rides, swims, or even dancing lessons. :)

Does typing furiously in chat channels count?

No, but you can probably do it between typing furiously in chat channels and ship spinning. Razz

Count me in... although for starters I'll be doing girly pushups (I'm allowed I'm a chick). Stupid car accidents and wrecked muscles and stuff >.>

Awesome! My initial test was only 12 pushups... Embarassed But I'm already doing way better - 15 in a set last night (53 total). Cool

I've been looking at body weight training for a while now, but never got started. Maybe it's time I did start now Laughing

There's also the 200 sit ups, 200 squats and 150 dips programs to look into. I would love to find a similar for working the back, since you want to have a strong back if you gonna train your abs.

Edit: Oh, and if your wrists are as weak as mine and hurts like hell after doing a few push ups, buy a sets of push ups bars. You wrist-to-hand is straight and not at a 90 degree angle (that's my bigegst problem with push ups).

I do my own stuff and 100 push ups in a row is not one of my goals, but I applaude the urge to get in better shape as that is my line of work.

I will point out Scott Sonnon's youtube profile as he has numerous videos of excellent body weight and non-traditional weight training exercises utilizing club bells, bands, and kettle balls.

The main video he has up is a great one of tactical gymnastics as he lists it, I prefer to call it tactical spacial navigation. His video for the Ape Step you will give a few excellent exercises for leg and core strength and leg and core flexibility.

I hope all here will get something from these links.

EDIT: A new post to his page hits on something that i have been seeing since before I finihsed my collegiate studies. Overtraining is a problem that is plaguing the active populations world wide. It seems that people either over do or do not do. We as a species seem to find it hard to find a good balance.
