Okay so I have a corp friend who has really bad lag and keeps disconnecting during eve game play. This is really bad, because he cannot mission, he cannot go low sec... and he is a very experienced player with a lot of skill points and it is a shame it suddenly doesn't work for him.

I know there are some solutions to this, i read about http tunneling and what not and I am not sure which one suits his needs. The thing is, me, as his corp friend, I have a virtual private server in London, to which he can connect and vent and stay there for days without disconnect. That server has a ping of 1.2 ms with TQ, pretty sweet.

Is there any linux thing I can install on my VPS, and any windows thing he can install on his PC that can tunnel his client through my server to TQ?

This seems weird but I believe with the proper tools it can work very well. He has 80 ms ping to my London server so if it is possible it would work for sure. Any way to configure EVE to use proxies? Please help me as I have not done any of this before.

Thank you.

Hello,
Get him to download a prgram called Pingplotter (http://www.pingplotter.com/) and get him to use this to run a trace to the EVE servers (not sure what the IP is, anyone know this?). From there he should be able to work out if the problem is on his end with his ISP or a problem with one of the servers his connection is bouncing through. Get him to put a screenshot of his pingplot up on this thread and I or someone else can take a quick look at it.

Some questions to help with a solution:
Has your friend always had this problem while playing EVE? Or has it started recently?
Has he changed his ISP or his internet plan recently?
What kind of connection does he have? (Dial-up, ADSL, Cable etc.)

Also, a mod might want to move this thread since i dont think it is in the right section.

Hey he actually has that program and he did what you said. The problem is the route that is been taken to EVE's IP, on the last HOP there is extreme lag of even a minute sometimes. However when he does it to my IP, it takes a different route, and there is no problem. He talked to his ISP, they can't change anything.

Can we assume that your friend has contacted CCP about his issue with those details?

Yes you may, of course he did. He lost a Domi Navy Edition in a freaking mission because his connection just dropped... and guess if CCP refunded him for it (hint, they didn't). Also CCP and his ISP both claim it is out of their hands, and indeed, his ISP does not decide what route packets travel to reach a server, and CCP can't change that.

This is why I am looking for an alternate route to the TQ server.
