I don't quite see what everyone is complaining about, other than the security issues that is. I've not had any eyeball melting problems with the colour scheme and the layout is alright, it's not even too far off from this forum. And why do we need such wide forums? Wider forums just mean more left-right eye movement, if I wanted that I'd watch tennis or football.

Granted, the smilies are a little more orange than I'd like but it's nothing to get worked up about.

So you would prefer to do more up-down eye movement?

CCP played it straight again. I hope whoever is responsible for this ****-up gets booted. Be it the web-developers or the one supervising/forcing them to do what has been done.

Switching from 2x 1920px wide (minus minor crops) to under 1000px wide effective can have a similar psychological effect, you know ?
That's what basically happened.

I'm not getting paid for beeing reasonable all the time. Wink

Anyways, left-right eye-movement is probably the most natural/utilized eye-movement of all and you complain about it. All you'd get in exchange would be more up-down movement, which isn't exactly bad, but leads to more scrolling, which is far worse then any left-right eye-movement and I am sure you'd agree on that. Besides, the forum-width in itself realy wasn't that bad. The problem was the completely wasted space left and right, plus adding graphics there for no purpose other then looking like an advert-site. I'm all for integrating into some sort of easily recognizable scheme, but that was just meh, at best. Not to mention all the problems regarding layout/button-placement and so on (see Tippia's pseudo-quote, really, read it, it's worth it - CCP should do as well).

Quoted because Tippia is right (didn't find a more suitable link then the one to your screenshot, sorry). Fixed it in above's post.

It's not that much of a problem on my 1024px netbook, I'm used to that kind of meh-layout there. Not really a problem on my still 1280px desktop, albeit I sometimes dual-screen things because I can and it looks like a waste to have that second monitor running without anything on it. It is, however, really a problem on my wide-screen TV-set, which I sometimes use to read forums/texts, when I can't be arsed to sit at my desktop and just want to lay on my couch after a long day or just because I can.

Besides minor differences: I hope you get well soon and have a nice night, full of sleep Please visit your user settings to re-enable images.

Yes, he exaggerated it badly.
No, I'm not on your side on this one.
The new forums FELT just as bad to a lot of us as you felt when you saw the way he exaggerated his post style.
It felt that bad to me, and I only use 1600 wide, so I only actually experienced a minor shrinkage of display area.
But many run 1920 wide, or use two monitors for even wider potential sizes, and for them, it was much, MUCH worse.

I must be the exception to the case then, I use 1680 and I find the new forums to be just right. Maybe I sit too close to the monitor.. Shocked

Regarding the forum width thing, I actually prefer narrower because it's easier to keep track of what line I'm reading. There's a few studies about that regarding usability. The most recent one did show that people tend to prefer either the max or min amount of characters per line (link). Scrolling is hardly a problem when the space key is mapped as a page-down for most browsers. However, forcing the issue seems silly. I know what works best for me and that's why my browser windows are only about half screen width. Other people like very wide displays. Why restrict it to one or the other.

Can anybody think of something good to say about the (temp suspended) new forums ?
OTHER THAN an actually functional search function ?
I mean, a feature which actually WAS a noteworthy improvement over these forums right here ?
One that really worked as it should, not buggy as hell.
And it would have to be an OBJECTIVE improvement, not just a stylistic personal taste choice.

I can honestly think of none other than the search that was useful to me personally.
And even that wasn't such a big deal considering eve-search is around, and google works reasonably well too.
I dont consider a forum search to be properly tested untill the forums have been up and running for at least a month. it it seem to take that long to see if its actualy usefull, or prone to spam you with 1,000,000 threads of nothing.

the level of breakage on these ones however...

the "cosmetic" issues, together with some technicalities could be fixed "on the fly" yes.

stuff started to go waaaaay south when we started to hit on security issues. that's when you really need to stop and wonder what the **** happened here.

They rolled back because of massive security holes that they couldn't hope to patch up. Don't think for a second that they're going to listen to a single item of our feedback outside of that.

This is making trolling very hard when they keep switching forums. I guess this is what happens when you try to add to much fluff to something that doesn't need it. Tbh CCP could have just outsourced to Vbulletin slapped a custom theme and have been done with it.

I'd like to thank CCP for a well executed, truly heart-wrenching, and thoroughly lulzy practical April fools joke! There was despair, agony, and even a few tears.

Locking the forum was a nice touch, it had me fooled for sure!

If people want new forums, what stops someone from making (and I'm making this up) Eve-Forums.com? Sure you won't get dev replies but the forum would be better than the ones that were shut down. No spacebook.

DO WANT !!!
after what happened here, i'm really not feeling well about this...

also, if you don't know why they use same pass ;
from what i saw from others online games, all official forums always use the same password, cause when you create your game account, it's copied to forum database.
remember, you never create a forum account, it's created by itself, so when they do it they simply use the info you put before, and so the same password.
i remember long ago i was even able to see how many suscribers a mmo had looking at forums stats... well until i told it to a GM, as next day it was removed.
