Here we go another one of these threads! I am going to keep this very short though.

Instead of making mining more involved or complex (as it seems to agitate miners) they should make a few changes to the asteroid fields to combat macro mining.

Keep the amount of belts in a system, but decrease (exponentially) the amount of roids in those fields. That means less total roids, and less material inside of them.

"OH NO!! WHAT ARE YOU SAYING!!??!"

I am not saying remove much of the materials used in mining - what I am saying is exponentially INCREASE the amount of Gravimetric sites in systems so that a miner will have to scan down these astroid areas that will be RANDOM each day as they mine.

"WTF IS HE TALKING ABOUT??!!?"

While miners may whine saying 'Wait I have to scan down a site with a ship, then bookmark it, then switch to a mining ship, go out there and mine? Your making my day difficult compared to my normal Right click warp to asteroid belt -> Slowboat to asteroid -> Click my miners".

It will take a much higher grade bot to scan down a gravimetric site (as it cant just be a simple mouse memory program) and now miners will have much less material on the market to compete with as bots who remain in the normal click to fields will have many times less material to even mine and, if done right, wont have enough material to stay in a single system macroing all day.

Only reason I would KEEP click to fields is for newer players who dont have the scanning skills or even realize you can scan down fields on day one and two of their EVE Online accounts. upon asking in help channel people can direct them to the exploration career agent tutorial.

Scanning skills dont take much skilling to find gravimetric sites easily (even low skills and 3 probes can find grav sites in a few minutes for a bad scanner guy). This will bring more oppurtunity to make isk as a miner. (Not that I am one).

lets make it where there are no asteroid belts and to mine roids you have to first have a super carrier or titan to attack the planets and blow them up with a billion dps and then you win! or you can blow up moons with dreadnoughts/regular carriers...

how do you get these first ships? i don't know... buy them from WOW Gold Sellers?

Or make mining not a ****ing snorefest and get rid of the drone regions.

Problem. Fixed.

The situation of changing the way mining is doesnt bode well for many miners. Some people find joy in this passive lifestyle - why screw them?

My method fixed the problem without changing how mining is done.

I can see most people dont actually bother reading ideas.

You're right. Mining isn't botted to hell and back due to being the literally most boring thing since watching paint dry.

This has nothing to do with the method which, as outcry from many miners has so bluntly put it. This fix changes nothing of the mining process just the method of it. I think your still having trouble getting this.

You're right, though.

We need to make it to where miners have to probe out gravimetric belts because macros could never do that.

Theres alot of threads about changing mining.

There seems to be alot of resistance about changing it.

Maybe those in resistance are those with most to lose?

I for one strongly believe that mining is badly broken. It is too boring, too easy, and makes too much money for low skilled players. The only thing CCP could do wrong regarding mining is to do nothing. Change it NOW!!!

Having been involved with other mining related threads and spoken to some miners, I've come to the conclusion that the group as a whole does not want mining to be changed to be more involved (read: more interesting). Most of the impetus for changing mining to be more interesting comes from non-miners who would *like* to try it, but are bored to tears by the process.

So, given the miners are enjoying their lifestyle as is - all we need to do is work on fixing the botting problem - which this would go some way towards resolving.

Yes, there are bots which can scan, I'm sure you're right. But there are probably a lot less of them than can macro jetcan/orca mining. Limiting the number of different botting programs means fewer botting program signatures to identify and ban. Easier for CCP to find and catch them.

The only problem I see with this thread - is that it has been suggested recently on the AH forum - go support that.

wrong.

ccp guys, gather info, brainstorm ideas, propose ideas, gather feedback, find the best ideas, test themrework problems, test them again, test them one last time, put it on sisi, gather bug reports, fix problems, gather more bug reports, fix problems, then make sure everyone who's listening is informed of the changes, and then implement it on TQ

WHATEVER YOU DO do not rush something because people ask you to. set this high on your priorities and get it in as soon as possible, but do not skip steps and give us an unfinished product.

support for grav sites instead of belts.

As a person who can use Hulks, Orcas and now even Rorquals (but those are used for 0.0 POS logistics because nobody wants to lose a 1.5bil+ ship in a mining op) I can say that mining is literally the most boring thing I've ever done in my life.

Those who don't want it to change are the ones who:
A) Bot
B) Think that if CCP changes it, then they can't AFK mine and then whine on the forums when suicide ganked.

Every person I've met since I realized that I'm ******ed for having mining skills at all, I've turned away from it because I don't want them to be bored.

well the problem is if you kill the macros, your intalations in 0.0 go down becose the ice is very hard to get from o.o ice belts and the stocks of fuel droping alot in market
why not mayde the 0.0 ice more yzy to get? to balence the problem

ender, i think we understand that bots should not be allowed for any reason, even to stabalise pos that farm moongoo in huge sectioned off parts off 0.0 which are supported by blobs moving through player made jump bridges (which might not be a bad thing)

but why couldnt you have just quoted and used a Neutral or a Shocked or aSurprised or even a Laughing? now the whole first page is going to be distended.

tbh I don't think this would solve much "boot-wise" because all they have to do after this is done is scan a site (which won't be that hard since there will be more), go to site and make a bm and then start the boot and make it go to the bm instead of the belt. It's not that complicated to code this and I am fairly certain there are boots that do that already.

Still, I do like the idea of loosing some of the static belts in favor of sites. Feels more.. "natural".

However, since I'm not a miner, I will leave it to them to decide in this matter.

Erm, nobody uses bots to fuel POSes that I'm aware of. I'm part of Goonwaffe's logistics team and we do no such thing.

you don't have to take that.

Also jaik bots have no problem scanning down sites, making mining even more of a chore isnt going to fix it. its just going to make things suck more.

It's also worth remembering that rookies have a tutorial mission which gives them the astrometrics skill and practically walks them through the process of scanning. The Orca is a useful ship for probing out the mining sites. Fit a probe launcher, survey scanner, and learn how to tag overview items, there's no need to swap ships all the time. For larger groups, a dedicated prober could be bookmarking grav sites while looking for hacking/salvage sites.
