The Liberation Of Caldari Prime

The ship was shaking and jostling around us as I sat with my unit waiting for us to complete the drop through the atmosphere into the city below, that the reason we are here in the first place is a fortuitous breach of Concord control that has enabled us to arrive in the system along with the rest of the fleet to take back what was once ours. Caldari Prime.

I am Halek Grundarg, a Civire Mercenary currently working as just another grunt in the Caldari State War Machine. We are sitting in a drop-ship awaiting landing on Caldari Prime, so that we may once and for all take back our home world, as the ship gives out one final jolt from atmospheric entry a voice rings out across our heads yelling for us to get ready to disembark and to be prepared to meet resistance, we are landing right in the middle of the remains of the primary Military Research Base, We get the report that the last piece of Anti Ship Defenses has been taken out and that the building was shot to pieces from orbit but there could still be survivors in the ruins, so we have to do a thorough sweep of the area before we can let our own scientists into the ruins to see what the Gallente Federation is working on.

As we rush out into the ruined military complex, wreckage and dead bodies are visible all over the place, I quickly turn to the side and head for one of the ruined buildings, my squad mates right on my heels, we enter the building only to find more bodies and destroyed furniture, caved in roofs, broken walls and a few fires that are still burning, but amidst it all there is the noises, people still alive, yelling for help, even if none is forth coming. Orders come down for us to search further into the main building and as we do so I notice that there is a stairway leading down towards what could be a basement, using hand signals to alert the squad I sneak as close to the stairs as I can while keeping quiet. I hear whispers around the corner and decide that there is no reason to take chances, whether these are people laying in ambush or wounded and unable to move I will not risk the lives of my squad mates, I pop a pair of fragmentation grenades and throw them around the corner and down the stairs, the last thing I hear before the thump of the grenades detonating is a voice crying out "no" in despair.

Heading down the stairs to investigate the basement I notice that the people I heard where unarmed, shrugging to myself I continue as the observation goes into the back of my mind, I'll feel bad about it later, maybe, but right now I have a job to do, leading the squad into the darkened halls of the basement I enable the Night-vision gear and continue sneaking ahead, this area is most likely honeycombed with traps and ambushes so we have to be very careful while navigating the area. Taking great care to remain as silent as possible we start to search the basement, heading into the darkness the squad deploys in standard formation, myself in front, as usual, sometimes being the designated scout isnít all itís cracked up to be. As we arrive at what looks like a heavy wooden door I once again signal my squad for silence and sneak ahead, using one of the many gadgets in my gear I sneak a peek under the door, inside the room there are several people and it has been prepared for defense against an assault, a group of 10 or so soldiers waiting nervously behind knocked over tables and book cases, and what looks to be scientists in the corner of the room, withdrawing the gadget I sneak back to our CO and report what I have found.

Preparing for the attack into the room our Explosives Specialist rigs the door to explode inwards and shower the soldiers in the room with splinters, once we are all ready the CO gives the signal and the door explodes with a loud bang and immediately after we throw a pair of flash-bangs into the room, the soldiers in the room are more or less incapacitated and the scientists in the corner offer even less resistance, we quickly subdue the ones still alive and prepare to keep going, leaving two men as guards for the few people still alive, the rest of the squad moves further inside the basement looking for more pockets of resistance.

Another hour, 2 casualties and 3 fights later we stand outside the last room of the basement, voices are clearly heard from inside although we have no idea what they are saying, we set up for another room breach and everything goes smoothly until we are mostly through the door, a single Federation soldier standing behind a knocked over bookcase shooting at a barrel on the opposite side of the room gets in a lucky hit before he himself is riddled with bullets and then the world explodes into flames and darkness, as I fade out of consciousness a single thought passes through my mind.
ďDamn, itís my birthday tomorrow; guess I didnít get to live to see 30 after allĒ.

Then all is blackness.
