OK this has been bugging the crap out of me ever since they started doing client patches. Where the hell do they download to? They don't download to the cache folder like normal patches do.

See, I run multiple accounts off a single install using NTFS junctions. The entire point of doing this is so that I only have to patch once. But client patches, well, they're not very bright. Every single account insists on downloading a 5mb client patch, which effectively means that I'm patching the same damn install multiple times.

So, anyone know where the client patch downloads to so i can just bend it over and run it multiple times manually instead of re-re-re-re-re-re-re-downloading it?

I don't see why you would have to use a junction. I can click the eve button 4 times for 4 clients that open up for me to use.

Oh Eve doesn't save patches.

It only makes sense if he is running the account on multiple machines. Though why he does due use two screens???

Junctions means I don't have to keep changing the username when logging on. It also means I can have unique settings for each account as a junctioned EVE folder causes EVE to create a seperate settings/cache folder. Unfortunately it also causes the client patches to install for every junction.

And yes, EVE does save normal patches, if you don't select "clean up files" at the end of a patch install. It dumps the patch in the cache for that install (or in my case, junction). The problem is it doesn't do the same for client patches. Ergo my original question.

Client patches are ACCOUNT specific, not the "physical install", so the data goes to the account data folder ( %appdata%\ccp\... or something like that anyway )

For Win7 it's %appdata%\Local\CCP\EVE\%game_location%_tranquility\ to be more precise, and that's where it puts normal patches. The problem is that wherever it puts the client patches, it is not obvious as to where (or I wouldn't be asking on here). There's a lot of folders in the cache, none that stick out as "client patches are here yo". But hey, thanks for pointing out that they're account specific, which is kinda what I said right from the start since that's what's causing the problem. Rolling Eyes

For XP users, the respective folders under :

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCP\EVE

It's a straight copy paste job, after you have downloaded the first client hotfix patch.

I imagine they could modify the code to have the client hotfix downloaded into a CCP generic master cache folder for the first time. Then for subsequent times, any EVE client just needs to check the master cache folder for the data it needs. Easier and simpler for the user as a whole, but I guess they prefer easy coding/engineering over customer usability/efficiency (in avoiding wasted bandwidth). Rolling Eyes

Edit: clarity - yesterday's client hotfix file "240510.code", Win7 users can do search to locate that file and note down its location.

Yeah I was just having a look myself. Win7 has crap in ProgramData\CCP\EVE\%eve_location%_tranquility (Note that it's ProgramData, not AppData, which in Vistass/Win7 are 2 different folders). This has, remarkably enough, the .code files in it. I guess this is what I was looking for. I'll just have to duplicate the code file after first install. Nothing a batch file can't fix.
