Not part of the ccp staff, but I do live in Iceland and I personally like Íslenska barinn(Icelandic bar), The celtic cross, and Enski barinn(English bar) though english bar gets quite crowded after 00:00. As for some eateries I would go for Vita bar wich serve fantastic hamburgers and a great steak dinner, Hamborgarabúlla Tómasar is also another hamburger joint though they also serve steak dinner wich I have heard is quite good but their hamburgers arent as big as those at Vita bar but in my opinion slightly better.

Hey Kveldur! Thanks for your input! Your local knowledge is far superior than anything one can find online. There are so many places around my house that a travel guide might recomend and while they may be great places, the little places that are so much more enjoyable get buired in reviews by the big guys! :) thanks! |

hehe np, also forgot to mention one place to eat, it´s a small place near the docks which serve hot dogs, and is called Baejarins bestu. Can ask any on the street for directions since every icelander has eaten there, but it isnt indoors so go there in when it isnt raining. Funny thing too, dont rush to jugdement about the name of the hot dogs but it´s "SS hot dogs" and even more suprizing you might notice a swastika on a nearby building, cant remember the story behind that one but the hot dogs are really good.

Going to second the recommendation for Islenski Bar as a great place to chill, its one of my favourite hangouts. Good food, good beer and decent prices. |

That place is a must. On a general note, you might also find this website useful. |

Attention Sushi Lovers: If you wish to eat the best sushi in town, go to an awesome restaurant called 'Fishmarket'If you wish to die happy, then turn up with hours to burn, and request their full tasting menu. Not for people who don't like fish, If you do, it's one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. |

I always thought ccp staff went frequently to a certain hamburger joint relatively close to HQ, I know that Fishmarket is a little further but gas is expensive nowadays |

I presume you mean Burger Joint (or Hamborgarbúllan), which is amazing. |

The Certain Hamburger Joint The Name Of Which I Always Forget is really good (it's actually Grillhusen or something) but the place I absolutely must recommend is Ban Thai. Mere words fail to do justice to this Thai restaurant. Just go there and see for yourself. |

Edited by: Blind Furry on 21/03/2011 19:06:40 After I was done spying on CCP's HQ I stopped in to the organic bistro (it's about a 7-10 min walk from ccp) was a nice spot to step out of the rain food and service were excellent be prepared to get your own utinsils and water when your ready to order approach the counter they'll give you a table marker take that to your table. My meal was ready quite fast (about 6-10 min) beer is resonably priced from what I've seen 550-560kr for Kaldi domestic bottled beer (I'm used to drinking guinness so I found this beer very very sweet it's overall flavor was good though and served at perfect temp)though I think a full pint is a bit higher they only offer Gull in full pints
Total for my meal and drink was 2450 kr which is about 1000 kr cheaper than prices I expected before I landed here
New day new shop Hlolla batar (i don't have the fancy things for my keyboard) it's not to far from ccp and on the main shopping road near the end of it actually 1450 kr for a large lunch sub and pop. or 1100 kr for the regular size lunch
Just ate at Ban Thai the atmosphere is very comfortable and the music that was playing reminded me of a 1950's slow dance song but in taiwaneese(sp?) there was a very pretty quiet spkoken girl that greeted meand took my order I decided to have Gull today and in all honesty it reminded me a lot of Molson canadian(not a canadian product anymore) or labatt blue (when it goes a bit skunky) overal the flavour of the beer was good the aroma was a bit harsh though. The food was amazing you can tell they use very good knives when preparing and a fair attention to detail in the presentation. I believe it was the owner who came out and checked on me and wanted to make sure I was eating it correctly so I could appreciate the meal, he was very pleasant before he went back to the kitchen. I would give it 2 thumbs up also pay attention to their pepper meter on their menu if it has 3 or more peppers it's actually really spicy mind you if you drink a beer with your meal it makes it a bit more managable. when it comes to cost it's about the same as the bistro's in the shopping district where meals range on avg from 1200 kr -2900 kr beer prices were a bit steep around 650+ kr for a bottle. my meal there today was 2490 kr with my beer
I did take note of a hot dog stand about a 1 hr hike from where FF will be held that has a hot dog and pop combo for 550 kr but you have to hike a while to get there |

Grillhúsið http://www.grillhusid.is/ I'd recommend their lamb steak over the burgers though. |

Wow guys, you didn't tell me about Sægreifinn (Sea Baron)!!!! That place was utterly amazing! And it's right around the corner from your office. Same with Icelandic Fish and Chips, which was fantastic.
I think going forward, you guys should definitely recommend your visitors try out your sea food, that is easily the greatest food asset Iceland has over other countries. The only other place i can think of that might rival the goodness of Icelandic fish would be in Alaska. The only other time i had seafood nearly as good as the stuff i had in Reykjavik was in Seattle, which was fish freshly caught that morning in Alaska. Can't beat that arctic fish.
I Ate at the Lava Restaurant as well (although i ended up spending 16.000isk lol) and it was fantastic.
Anyone who did the golden circle probably got a chance to try out the Soup at Gullfoss, also a must have!
I did end up going to Íslenska Barinn and had the Horse. Everyone back here in the States has given me so much grief for eating horse LOL. Pansies, that horse was good. I would eat that all the time if i could.
In the end, i cannot wait to come back to Iceland, would love to come back for summer or Christmas!

Speaking as the native guide to cusine to many eve players over the years, I'll reccommend the hot dog stand by the flea market.
Get two with everything and a coke. Ultimate gastronomic experience available in the country. |
