Hi,

I would like to know if in the near future if we will have the oppurtunity to change character names?? Reason I am asking is because of one name one of my characters has refers to another online community and I caught a lot of flack for it. another reason is for role play purposes to which my characters are a royal family and I want to be able to bring the names more in line to the main characters and their ranks in the clan they have.

Hopefully a mod can shed some light as to if this may be offered in the name future, fly safe and thanks.

Name changes only happen if the name is found offensive by a GM, after being petitioned. Or if the character is really young and you made a simple mistake like forgetting to capitalise the name. Otherwise, not going to happen.

There have been name changes in the past but only for people linked to CCP who got outed or in trouble. I doubt that applies here :)

Well, there's more. The Enslaver being one (although that was a **** move by K), then there's Solon/Lake. There's a bunch.

Wont happen, ever.

A good portion of eve is about "reputation" and that sticks to your name. If you ruined it, its ruined forever, and thats a good thing.

Or used ALL CAPS.

He is right about the age thing though. After a certain point, due to community rage if people could run from their bad rep (if any), it would pretty much take a court order.

Take my name for example.

Usually what it draws can be discarded as poor smack from the ignorant, dumb or simply badly educated, sometimes its just bitter malcontents striking out at anything that catches their attention.

Anyway, got stuck with it. And, meanings, reasons and misinterpretations aside, it's not helping that it begins with "A" in a alphabetically sorted local and overview.

There is no reason not to file a petition. The worst that can happen is that you waste a few minutes of you time.

Primary much ? Wink

EDIT : I'd search the linguistic sites to see if your name is offensive in some obscure language.

The one thing you can do - is to biomass the character. Now here - you don't want to be doing that if the character has accumulated a bad security rating. Biomassing characters to get rid of a bad security rating is a no-no ...

Obviously the problem with that ... is that you lose all the skill points that character trained.

I've made character name mistakes similar to what you describe - and realized it soon enough to just biomass the character and start over.

The other reason I biomassed a character was that I created them in one factions space where I had on pilots for the purpose of checking something out. I had them randomly created and gave them a stupid name ... something like Born To Be Biomassed ... or something like that. I checked the thing I wanted to check - biomassed the character and was done.

if you make a typo in your name, and notice it soon after starting you can get it changed as long as
a) you make a nice petition quick
2) you are polite
3) the name is available
4) you get a nice GM
5) it is not offensive
6) probably some others
7) changing capitalization is not considered a name change so that can be done pretty easily
