I cannot understand why "PVPers" seem to work so hard against "Carebears". IT seems to me that the those who want nothing but pvp fail to realize that those so called carebears are enabling them to play.

Imagine this... you are successful in converting every miner into a pvper, what happens then?

Have any of you even considered that?

I have seen the economy in eve bounce all over the place... I have seen trit prices peak at about 5.5 isk and have seen it as low as 1.3 isk (these are market averages). If there is no one mining minerals any more... where are those who manufacture the ships you are flying going to get the minerals?

It is like declaring war on yourself, and the more you drive away, the more expensive things become.

Not to rain on your moral stance, but you should consider that people can be *both* a carebear and a PvPer

/bitter mode on

Besides, all the minerals come from bots anyhow!

I don't want to rain on your parade, but I find that highly unlikely. Carebears don't engage in combat.

How do PVPers make their money?

The answer to this shall set you free. Also, there's these things call "Alts", dunno if you've heard of them. In your "World of doom everyone's pvper now zomg", the PVPers would still use their alts to carebear it up.

Also, it's just a game, try to have fun instead of figuring out why this or that happens for what reason.

My wife's dad wanted to play this game, but wanted to know how to win. I said "You don't win EVE, EVE wins you." So then he said "What's the point of playing then?" The answer to that particular question shall also set you free. Wink

I don't really understand why you think so. You've got the low sec pirates who do engage in comabt and are carebears, you've also got the jita/niarja high sec suicide gankers who are very obvious carebears and they also engage in something that can theoretically be classified as combat (if smacking a child with a lollypop is combat).

I'd say you can be both - a carebear and a pvper. It's only a matter of what ship you are currently flying :D

Eve dies without PVP.
PVPers are capable of mining, science & industry.
Eve does not need carebears.

The answer is very simple.

It all boils down to strip miner envy

This really, thing is that we DO need people gullible enough to be used for low/non pay. This happens both in pve as in blobs I guess.

I think the big misunderstanding in this thread is the definition of carebear.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=carebear

Definition 2:

In the MMORPG Eve-Online (www.eve-online.com) a Carebear is a character who stays in Concord (police) controlled space and never ventures into unsecured "0.0" space.

Unlike previous MMORPG related definitions, an Eve carebear doesn't necessarily eschew Player-vs-Player activity - a carebear may actually be a pirate or griefer who specifically stays in Concord controlled space to prey on new players (noobs).

Carebear pirates are commonly considered a cowardly form of pirate.

Pvp'ers can and do mine/invent/manufacture. PVP is the driving force of the game. Without it most of the game would be pointless.

If CCP decided to make two servers and put all "carebears" in one and the pvp'ers in the other it would be the carebears that suffered.

It's a mindset view. At the extreme range, PvPers regard carebears as cowards for not venturing out of high-sec, and carebears think PvPers are bullies and thugs for wanting to fight. It's like the fans of Star Wars and Star Trek arguing at a science fiction convention....

I don't agree that mining and manufacturing have a controlling influence on the market. They play an important part in it, but one-on-one combat, especially piracy, is very lucrative. If that part of EVE were to suddenly disappear, the economy would still flourish but it would be based on shooting players instead of plagioclase.

*shrug* just did a quick google search on it. but the whole "what is a carebear" does seem to be the actual issue.

I've always been in the "Carebear means no pvp" camp when it comes to the definition.

For ignorant people, yes.

Granted high sec ... people (not pirate pvpers) ... need their own derogatory term, but carebear is not one of them.

And to be perfectly clear; if you don't blink, you are not a pirate.

So, please educate us, what is the proper definition of a carebear and make us not so ignorant

Yes, this please. What is a carebear? All references of carebears that I can find on Google is <img src="http://www.glitter-town.com/care-bear-myspace-glitters/care-bear-myspace-glitter-graphic-12.gif" border="0">.

I don't think that is right from the context but I am clueless. Help please.

It's not carebears that produce minerals and ships. It's miners and industrials.

Carebears produce tears.

Same site, definition 1

Definition 2 screams of some null sec chauncey ( Laughing ) who was camped in by privateers and had nothing better to do than to go to Urban Dictionary and try to expand the definition because he couldn't come up with a way to insult them.

This.

Miners =/= Carebears
Industrialists =/= Carebears

I'm a miner/industrialist but when provoked while in mining/indy mode, will turn round and shoot you in the face. A carebear would wee himself and run to mummy. Laughing

It's a psychological thing. Pvp folks rage on pve folks with the intention to get them to do stupid stuff and get blown up. Calling a pve'er a "carebear" pretty much is all about trying to bait that person into getting into pvp, even though that person might not want to do that at all.

In eve, you have two kinds of people. Those that cry and those that laugh. If you love mining (and you really do) then don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If some big bad pvp guy comes to you tries to make you feel bad by calling you a carebear and whatnot, your main concern should be on how to extract tears from that person, not what they actually have to say. Because you need to understand that there is very little in the world of eve online worth reading/listening to.

The thing about EvE that seperates it from everything else is the PvP bellcurve.

In a normal system, if you are right of center of the bell curve, you are winning. In EvE, if you are on the right side of the bell curve with your win:loss ratio, it does not mean you are making any money.

So in answer to your OP, you have to realize that most of the people you are referring to are PvP alts of carebears, closet carebears, or PvP carebears.

Think I'd haft to agree with this. This is no different than like the griefers in old EnB. I think highsec is a bit unrealistic with the way the mechanics are set. As these guys usually have low security ratings, I think bounty hunter players with high security ratings should have the opportunity to drive them into lowsec.

Nice extension on 'adjective noun is adjective' = scared carebear is scared.
