Edited by: Incipus on 08/02/2011 20:02:11 I've tried 1.3.11 from winehq.. I've tried 1.2.xx from ubuntu..
During installation, the downloader fails and but then starts the repair tool which seems to come up with a valid installation(subsequent runs of repair do nothing). I did winetricks corefonts, which seems to have installed the required arial font(at least, it's in the fonts directory) but when I run wine it comes up with the inceptions spash, then promply crashes with something like:
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000014 at address 0x6a3fea4e (thread 001e), starting debugger... Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000014 in 32-bit code (0x6a3fea4e). Any suggestions? I've tried different wine versions and really have no clue on where to begin with this. Supposedly eve is "Gold" supported on winehq, which seems like a joke... I'd hate to try a bronze.
I have a valid XP install, if I need to copy anything from XP. Any help would be appreciated, might even toss some ISK your way. ;)
A few system facts: 1. ATI Video Card, latest cat. commercial drivers 2. AMD64 CPU 32-bit Ubuntu 10.04
Any other requests for info let me know.

Here's a log of the session, as I said I've tried multiple wine versions. I really don't know if I should look at my eve install, wine, ubuntu version, bug in wine, bug in eve, etc.

Here's the list of things I do in winetricks (I'm on Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit and running wine 1.3.13 but these are the same winetricks options I used on 10.04 with older versions of wine): corefonts ddr=opengl glsl-disable orm=fbo winxp gecko vcrun2005 When starting EVE I'll run it in a virtual desktop like this: env WINEPREFIX="/home/username/.wine" wine explorer /desktop=EVE,1920x1200 C:\\Program\ Files\\CCP\\EVE\\eve.exe Change "username" to your username and change the "1920x1200" to the desktop resolution you normally use on your screen if necessary. Also if you're running a version of wine older than 1.3.13, you'll probably have to rename the .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/CCP/EVE/res/audio/Jukebox directory or it may cause crashes - wine 1.3.13 fixes this assuming your libmpg123 is recent enough, but it's probably not on 10.04. More info here about the Jukebox. |

Easy response: The downloader doesn't work.
Download the offline client file and it will work just fine. This will also apply to all patches, download the manual patches from the website and run.

A step forward! I was able to enter the game(without crashing) and now I'm waiting to Enter Station.. I'm in Jita, so perhaps a less intense game experience might have been a good selection. Thank you so much for this! On the note of the offline installer, I got the crash as when I used the 'repair' based installer. But after applying these winetricks I'm waiting to enter station in Jita..Hopefully it goes through. It's been about 5 minutes so far and no enter, but I can deal with performance problems really.. Turn down the settings or whatnot :) Thanks again!! Hopefully it successfully enters the station eventually and at least I've made a great step forward. Ok, so I still can't actually get the game running. The character won't enter the game, even after 30 minutes. It shows the character in the corp, but he's not in at all. I get this in the log: (I did rename jukebox to see if this helped--no go.) Any ideas?

I got it! Apparently reducing the graphics from fullscreen to windowed made everything work. No clue why, but yay! :) I figured I'd post here for others that are having problems. |

Edited by: Algathas on 14/02/2011 19:16:23 The best way I have found to run Eve is full screen in a virtual desktop.
You can then make the desktop be the same size as your screen or the same size minus the task bar. This also makes it easier to run multiple clients and runs much more stable than in windowed mode.
You can then make a shortcut such as the following:
wine explorer /desktop=1,1920x1150 "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe"
