Buddy of mine is always complaining about ninja salvagers coming into his mission. Since I mission in the same system and never see them, I thought he was nuts. Well, we do a mission as a fleet and sure enough, a ninja shows up.

I am a little fuzzy on probing mechanics, but is the huge sig on that passive Rattler the reason he draws all of the ninja's? If so, I am glad I didn't train for one lol.

bigger the sig the faster you probe them down. If he wants to reduce the amount of ninja salvagers in his mission it might help to fit an eccm module. as it isn't only sig but sig/sensor strenght iirc. so if his sensor strenght goes up it is a bit harder to probe him down

Unless im terribly mistaken, its drones fault that your friend gets easily scanned out.

Sentrys and heavy drones provide 5 more possible scan targets.
Afaik, drone MWD increase their sig radius making them easier to be scanned out. Not sure about sentries though

You are right on all counts their, but like I said, everyone uses drones. I dualbox with a Domi and normally have 10 drones out. But I've only ever had a ninja show up once....and I am a mission running fool.

His issue has to be something other than drones.

The sig radius helps.
The fact that it's a Rattlesnake also helps it screams (semi)AFK mission runner.

Confirming that the Rattlesnake has the sig radius off a blimp. Being a snake pilot myself i have ninja pop in now and then. I just ignore them and they go on their merry way after awhile. And no i dont afk missions.

I almost never had ninjas show up, but then in the last two days I've had two. Not sure if it's just bad luck or what. (Using a NH.)

that, I regularly run marauders in missions and almost never see ninjas, and high sig combined with low sensor strength makes marauders super easy to probe out.

ever since the probe change the use of drones really doesn't matter, ships are plenty easy to scan out as is.

That has more to do with the fact that it is entirely not worth it to try to ninja salvage a marauder mission. If you were doing it in a ship that screamed "at the keyboard" but didn't have high slots begging for tractor beams or a beam bonus, you'd get just as many salvagers as most people.

Assume you are them and you want the mission runner to shoot you back so you can have a free pass at killing them.

Would you go for T1 battleships or sexy faction battleships?

passive huge EHP tanks = less of a target
also rattlesnake does`t require any faction/ded module to maximize tank , and doesn`t need faction BCS because its cruise missiles have crap damage as well = less of a target

so ... it might be something personal (lol), or they are just after the loot .

While it may be heavily tanked, its certainly by no means unkillable.

Its not a specific game mechanic that makes them easier to probe out, nearly all the mission BSes are incredibly trivial to probe out. As long as its not a marauder, they are all pretty sound targets.

But the day the mission runner shoots you for stealing loot, happens to be have smartbombs or just gets themselves CONCORDED, you'd be much happier if it was a faction ship, not just as T1 one. YARRRR!!
