Spec's ok for EVE under Linux.

I'm using ArchLinux, and it's working as intend... well... more or less ^^ Last Patch killed it all ^^

The thing about EVE under Linux/Wine is, that you have to set your graphic settings to low, max medium, the videocrddrivers + wine doesn't allow much more... well, it does, but not long ^^

So, that was the introduction... and now the answer to your question... oh, wait... no question there... please be more specific about your "problem"/question.

As the subject indicates "NEW" to linux, telling a noob to run Arch is...stupid. Arch is a more advanced distro/framework that requires some NON windows skills before a comfort zone is reached.

I use Arch...but started with Ubuntu and learned the ropes there before moving up.

For a NEW linux user, I'd recommend Linux Mint. While Ubuntu is the standard choice by most in these "recommend" fests, a new user installing on his own may not know about things like restricted codecs and such, and Mint has all of that taken care of.

You will still have some learnin' to do as linux IS NOT windows, nor should it be. At least with Mint you'll have a "ready to roll" system after completing the installation, as well as access to the ubuntu repositories and knowledge base because Mint is built on top of ubuntu.

As to wine, using 1.2.2 (stable) will work. (make sure to have the best 3d video drivers as well...and on that subject, I am not an expert with ATI cards, so others will have to fill in the blanks there.)

If you have issues or questions, ask here, in the linux channel in game, check the eve evelopedia for the how to linux section <<<linky on the left side of this site.

Also check winehq's application database for the EVE link for more info on troubleshooting/fixing issues.

i didn't tell him to use arch, i only told him, what i'm using... he said, he has Mint (it's linux, so you are free to go)... checked...
Which wine... latest offered by your OS (mostly newest stable or higher)... checked...

how to get wine(or other programs)... read your OS wiki/forum/handbook... checked...

ok, i could have told him where in the evelopedia the infos about linux are... but... google -> "eve online linux" -> first entry... well... checked...

in my opinion, if you use linux, you have to know how to get things like programms and infos... linux isn't windows, you have to be "smarter" to use it to it's top... what didn't mean, i think he's not smart...

nah, i keep my mouth shut from now on...

@ Inaari: follow the links in the post above and you are good to go
