I have been wondering if CCP has ever kicked this idea around, or done it while I was not signed up. I was thinking something like for people under 20Mil SP or 10Mil would maybe for a few days get it acceled to help them catch up a little bit to some other players. Always something I have not liked in ths game, and the way I take breaks my SP is VERY behind. I dunno I thought it might be a good idea, discuss!Razz

P.S. I was very very happy learning skills went byebye and I was able to reallocateArrow

Why?

"Catching up" is not an applicable notion for SP, and rather nonsensical overall given the EVE skill system.

Skill is what makes you able to catch up in EVE, not skills...

There is no need to "catch up". Older characters just have more options than you, you can be just as effective as them at one particular thing within a month or three.

Knowledge is much more important than skills themselves in my opinion. The more knowledge you have, the more you can do with the skill points you do have. It's not about catching up, it's about learning the eve life and applying it. With EVE, with in a month or two, you can be just as powerful as a 5 or 6 year old player when it comes to PvP if you apply your skills correctly. The problem is, you need to do your research and learn. And if people take breaks from the game and lose training time, that's their fault, not CCPs.

No, you should be punished for not starting to play this game sooner than you did, so no more SP-bonuses to the noobs. And!!! You already got +4.5 mil SP since they stole all the learningskills from us.

"Stole" isn't quite how I'd put it.

I agree. This game would benefit more if players could have control over their progression.

Say you get SP or a skill training rate boost for killing rats, doing trades, mining, just playing the game. You can wait for it - training, you can do something about it - grind/boosts, or you can buy it flat out with plex.

The game would have to go F2P for this to work. It will.

Why should you be allowed to catch up?

I just finished Carrier V last night.

It took me 46 days to do at max training speed.

A new player can train Engineering V, Mechanic V, Electronics V in less time than it took me to train ONE skill to level 5.

So to reiterate: New player can train tons of skills in the same time that it took me to train ONE skill to level 5. My character now progresses exponentially slower skill wise than a newer player. A new player catches up to me a whole lot faster than I pull away from them.

At a certain point, SP count doesn't even matter anymore and I believe that point is at ~ 13 million SP. I haven't gotten more than 2-3% better in pretty much everything I can fly since I hit 13 million SP (finished all support skills to V) and that was a LONG LOOOONG LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time ago.

yea...

CCP should reward the folks that don't keep their subscription active... I'm sure they don't want to encourage people to pay every month for 8 years straight by giving them some sort of benefit for doing it!!! warp speed those on-again off-again players skillpionts so they can catch up to us ... and do it right away!!!

Bleh. People get things all wrong.

If you want to accelerate training, gotta do it in the EvE way with cost and consequence (or room for consequence).

I would do it with drugs. Like speed. A brain booster for training speed. But it would be heinously illegal in empire, hard to produce, and the SP gained from it are not retained in if you get killed and end up in a clone. During the duration of the drug - the duration of the skill training you took the drug for - you could not do anything or there would be for that duration a severe temporary loss in motor skills.

Hey if you are going to tweak, it should be costly.

This question often goes with bloated sense of entitlement, which I'm very glad CCP doesn't cater for.

In a year you can have all the skills that you need for your style of play at level V, and the ability to compete with the people who have been playing for years in all fairness. Unless of course you have set out to become a titan pilot that roams around and pwns noob in his golden amarrian member.
