I have gone back and read some posts on FW and was wondering if there have been any improvements since 2009? What can I expect from FW nowadays (rewards/benefits/cons)?

I joined in 2009, and I haven't heard much at all on the FW front.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's one of many forgotten features that CCP was hoping more of the community would partake in, but due to low participation, it wasn't really updated.

I'd sooner say participation is low because it was not updated, than the other way around.

:/ Something I noticed about this game is it has ALOT to do, which I love as variety is everything to me, however all those things seem (from a newb perspective) half polished. Lets face it there, is no way we can have so much stuff and expect it all to run perfectly by itself or as a whole but it should be constantly improved.

So what I really would like to know now, is is this standard? Does CCP just go with the next big thing and forget everything else or do they (even sometimes) go back and fix things from a game element implemented a few years back(e.g. new incentives to participate), to try to actively get players interest in it again?

I think FW was intended as a way to get more people into low sec, get them fighting, without all the effort, politics, organization, etc needed for 0.0.

It somewhat works. Log in, get into a fleet, go looking for an enemy fleet... Sometimes kill or be killed, but lots of time just trying to manouver around so that you are bringing more to the party than the other side so you can win.

In the end, it is really meaningless combat. So you take some plexes, make a system voulnerable, pound the bunker for awhile, mke it say occupied by you instead of the other guys... No real reward for taking or penalty for losing a system.

RvB is also meaningless combat, but without all the manouvering. The 2 FCs negotiate with each other to figure out who is bringing what and where the fight will be.

Which is more meaningless? Which is more fun? Beats me.

The real problem with FW is that anyone can get in. This means it is loaded with spies. No gate keeper reviewing who is in or kicking out spies. Therefore, no one is trusted until they have been around, gotten on kills, lost lots of ships, been dissed on a lot for fear they are a spy.

It helps if you have real world friends that fly FW and can vouch for you.
