there's lots of good suggestions on here. i just finished Samurai 7 on netflix (streaming). its based on the Akira Kurosawa film Seven Samurai and pits a small village against sci-fi mech robot nobuseri (brigands) with classic stone-cold sword-wielding samurai coming to the rescue. it starts kind of slow, but really gets going by the third episode. definately worth watching.

I don't think I can recommend Juuni Kokki. Not because the anime itself isn't any good ( it is ), but because the anime just stops at a random place in the story! It's even worse at that than Rurouni kenshi and D.grayman. Crying or Very sad

novelization wasn't complete by then. it was slated to be some 60 and some episodes Sad

yeah...
you know why? Youko isn't the main character in the rest of the story... they tried for two-three story-arcs to keep her as the main lead, by having others tell the rest of the stories to her... but that stopped being viable when the story goes back to earth... so they stopped making the anime.
Stupid thing is, most fans seem to like Yuka more than Youko. she's a richer character.

Just as stupid as the American company that edited Card Captor Sakura to make Syaoran the main character because they didn't think the west was ready for a girl to be the hero :P

Think they did the same with Escaflowne too, turned Van into the hero... for the same reason. Rolling Eyes

either way, the Juuni Kokki books are available properly translated... I'm only missing Book 2 myself.

PS Oh right, Card Captor Sakura and Escaflowne should probably be on the list of awesome animes too.

As a small yet vital edit: Watch anime subbed and not dubbed for the love of God. Every time you watch dubbed anime, Brandon Heat kills a puppy.

Learn Japanese and watch anime, and not subbed or dubbed, blah blah blah. Razz

...Seriously, though, if you're watching anything relatively older, do what this man says. It's not just a matter of avoiding talentless English-speaking voice 'actors', it's the fact that so many dubs (and even subs, in a number of cases!) back in the day were so utterly and completely wrong.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but so far I havent seen ANYONE, here, in the EVE FORUMS, a forum for a game of Galactic Scope, with Pew-Pew, tactics and DRAMA, racial tensions and political machinations, EVER on this kind of threads, MENTION ANYTHING at all about the WONDERFUL JEWEL , that is

LEGEND OF GALACTIC HEROES

Imagine EVE, with the Amarr (sort of) in war with the Gallente and a small Caldari merchantile empire in between.

Now The whole series is about the WAR, from the perspective of the higher ups and small snapshots of the lowest cannon fodder.

it amazes me, how people even barely acknowledge this series or even know about it. For me having played EVE made me watching this series hopeful of one day being able to deploy tactics in a galactic scale as the ones in this series.

Anyway Im off, go back to your mechas, gung-ho heroes and sword wielding magic users. For me it's all about Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

peace!

Easily one of the best animes ever made. Just starts out a bit slow and takes a while to get into, but definitely worth it. The portrayal of characters and politics is really amazing, it feels real and you can even relate a lot of it to RL (minus the ridiculously big space battles)

Posting to confirm this man's truth as best anime ever. Of all the animes I watched throughout the years, LOGH is the best EVER. I considered Hunter X Hunter the best until I saw LOGH few months ago.

I must ask tho', there are several OVA/parts for the series, do you know which particular order? I know I'm missing movies (if you can provide torrent link, please eve mail me :O )

So farm I got in particular order to watch:

1. LOGH Gaiden Spiral Labyrinth (14 eps)
2. LOGH Gaiden Mutineer (4 eps)
3. LOGH Gaiden - The Duelist (4 eps)
4. LOGH Gaiden - The Retriever (4 eps)
5. LOGH Gaiden - 3rd Battle of Tiamat (2 eps)
6. LOGH main series (110 eps)

I think it's still worth watching, even if it is not finished it is still one of the most epic animes. I personally watched it about 5 or 6 times and it was my favorite before Spice and Wolf was aired. Which is also not quite finished, by the way.
