Here's my idea...

(For clarification:
3000 units raw materials process into 20 units tier 0 materials
40 units of 2 tier 0 materials combine to form 5 units of a tier 1 material)

You find a planet abundant in several resources. You pick two, start extracting, processing and combining them to make a tier 1 product for market. Your command center still has enough power to extract and process one other resource, but the other component to make another tier 1 product is located on another planet in the same system. Why not have the ability to transfer that extra resource from one planet to the other one automatically?

There is already an import and export tax moving items on and off the planet. Why not add a transit tax to move items from planet to planet? This option can either be in the spaceport or the orbiting custom office. Selecting the option will have you also select the destination of the item you want to ship to the other planet. I would prefer a spaceport to spaceport transfer as opposed to a custom office to custom office transfer. I would expect there to be some travel time involved that would vary depending on the distances between the planets.

What does anyone else think?

Its not a bad idea, though I really dont see why you would not just bring a hauler, since you have to be on grid anyway to do it.

What I think is that you're on to something. I hope CCP considers a same-system solution. But also, being able to set up contracts for couriers to deliver your goods system-to-system would be cool too.

- Because once you have your PI planets set up, you can operate them from far away (I'm usually two jumps away from mine).

Another thing I'd like is trading hubs on planets, so you can trade produced items with other players on the same planet to get resources you need to produce your products.

Great idea of yours as well!!

do want.

i personally would like to have interstellar transits possible, because it is hard to find a system with all the types of planets in them with an extra barren or temperate for processing. make it even more expensive.

In the dozen or so systems I have checked, not one has one of each of the planet types. I've found systems with 1 or 2 Barrens, up to 3 Gas and then 1 or 2 of the remaining types.

It seems the planetary layout is as follows...
  • Planet 1 - Plasma, Lava or Barren

  • Planet 2 - Lava, Barren

  • Planets 3 & 4 - Ocean, Storm or Temporate

  • Planets 5 & 6 - Gas

  • Planets 7 & beyond - Gas or Ice

NOTE: This is not a set pattern in anyway. It's just what I have observed.

i would just about sell a body part for this. i have 4 planets across two systems extracting and doing basic processing. i have a fifth planet in one of the systems doing the rest of the processing, up to a single p4 product. being able to automatically shift goods from extractor planets to processing planet wuld be a godsend.

It would be too useful. As it is currently, people set up in different ways depending on how much hauling they are willing to do.

Do you set up a weaker PI scheme that is more convenient for hauling, or a better one that is a few jumps away?

a parallel for this idea would be NPC couriers between stations.

Remember, I just talking about moving materials within the same system.
I set up any planet I want to mine to run full bore. I'll max out the CC in order to extract as many different raw materials as I can. I will then combine two of then right there on that planet and either stock pile the third material for future processing or put in on the market if it is sell-able.

A little info about materials and products....

There are 15 different raw materials that can be extracted. Three of those are exclusive to individual planet types.

There are 24 different tier 1 products to make. Three of those need more than one planet to make.

Prime example - Silicate Glass.
You need to extract Felsic Magma and turn into Silicon on a Lava planet and then combine that with Oxidizing Compound made from Reactive Gases on a Gas planet, both are exclusive materials for that planet type. Now, I wouldn't just extract Felsic Magma and Reactive Gases from their respective planets, they would be my 'third' material I would be mining on each planet. What I proposed is the ability to transfer either Silicon or Oxidizing Compound to the other planet autonomously where I then can make Silicate Glass. I would expect to use NPC haulers for this for a price (see transit tax in initial post).

If the materials from two or more planets aren't in the same system, then you are out of luck and have to do the hauling yourself.

So let me get this right, the proposal is for completely remote control ability to manufacture high value commodities, without actually lifting a finger. This results in a massive price crash for things like pos fuel, as the previous cba people suddenly smell big profit... just so we are clear...

I vote yes - but with a massive resource cost for the module that can do it - maybe 70% of a level V planet resources + 10% per system hop, with a 2% reduction per level of a new 8x skill.

I wouldn't mind the ability to create courier contracts to pickup from and/or deliver to customs offices. That would certainly save me the time of driving my hauler all over the shop.

But please, no automated means of transfer, and no changes to the current requirement of being in system and uncloaked to arrange launches.

because hauling involves risk and this would ensure his assets are safe in lowsec / nullsec until dust 514, when troops enter his base.

to expand on my previous post.

currently, people may drop more storage/launchpads for the planet's output just so they don't have to haul every.. lets say day. This squeezes the PG and affects the quantities produced.

with interplanetary routing (even in the same system) that won't happen and people will be squeezing as many extractor heads as possible down with potentially no output storage, as the output can immediately be routed to the next tier factory planet.

I don't see this change as an improvement. The ability to export remotely and use customs offices as to/from destinations in courier contracts would be much better.

You realize, of course, that this is what capsuleers are actually supposed to be doing right? Flying spaceships between planets?

On that note, an Interbus spaceport might be a nice LP reward, with higher level versions costing less to operate. Supposedly Interbus is hauling crap around as well, just not for us Capsuleers.

True, but all I'm asking is if we can remotely export materials from a planet while in the same system as the planet, why can't we remotely send them to another planet in the same system and then import them. I know automating material transfers between planet in different systems won't fly, so I didn't ask for that.
