I dont know how to activate the UI-Beta. There should be a button in the escape menu but it`s missing.
Some advice would be great.

Here is the DevBlog about this

Looks like both were pulled out of the expansion in the last minute, so in short: You can't activate them.

Also missing are the NEW forums which were said to come with the expansion... :P

Yeah but at least the new Contracts are in the Patchnotes so it should be able to activate

The new NeoCom will not be activated. Based on player feedback and internal review then we decided that this Experimental Feature would be pulled.

The new Contract UI has not been activated yet. What you see in the patch notes should be the non-Experimental Features part of the changes made. Most of the backend changes are also already active resulting in performance increase in market hubs, especially Jita. The rest of the changes are still in review and pending an iteration.

The new forums will be released soon. Incursion is being delivered in multiple parts; with the first patch on 30 Nov, then removing learning skills and giving a ship away in Dec, then the new Character Creator this week, next week the Incursions themselves start and after that we move onto the forums.

I don't remember "New Forums to EVE Gate" being the last point of the feature list on http://www.eveonline.com/en/incursion/features.

Was this rescheduled or just added because it was missing?

Thanks for the info.

I'm generally not against rescheduling/delaying features when sensible, but how does this affect this year's releases?
Will there still be 2 expansions in 2011?
After all it's end of January 2011 and you're still working on delivering the winter 2010 expansion.

Or is this the beginning of a movement towards continuous deployment?

We are still on 6 month cycles, but instead of large deliveries in late May and late Nov in a big deployment each time then we are probably going to have "expansion eras" and roll out the changes over a period of time.

There are a few reasons for this. From my perspective the most important one is to mitigate deployment risk. For example, in the deployment this week (18 Jan9, when we deployed the new Character Creator and updated Planetary Interaction and EVE Gate, then we also deployed all the Incursion code but then disabled it. We used this week to monitor TQ, read the forums and bug reports, focus on the things that were active and fix issues in the new Character Creator, in Planetary Interaction and fix other issues that cropped up. Now that the critical issues have been sorted then we activate Incursion next week and can focus on issues that arise from that code in isolation.

This approach is better for us since we can focus our efforts and it leads to a better user experience since our response will be faster.

Deploying collections of smaller features and fixes in isolation, as we did in the first Incursion patch on 30 Nov, also ensures that they get the attention they deserve and are not overshadowed by the big features.

Referring to my post above: Possibly both. Incarna will be deployed over a period of time and possibly even over multiple cycles. And after that we will start to release expansions to EVE that include enhancements both to the "Flying in Space" part of EVE and the Incarna part of EVE.

I like this new approach CCP, the old patch day hell was fun, but maybe a bit too much Wink

Wouldn't mind 1yr dev cycles on the larger features either, although I must say I have my suspicions Apocrypha took longer than 6 months behind the scenes, based on the sheer scope of wormholes.

I disagree, the majority of post were ins support of it.

maybe 40% didn't want it unless ti could be vertical

only 10% of posters didn't like it.

plus 0% players HAd to use it.

of course I'm making up these numbers based on what i saw, but CCP explorer, why don't you deploy it as optional and then POLL THE PLAYER ASE, like firefox 4beta? it just make sense, the forums were full of players complaining you didn't include it. When you were it was full of players complainting about it going in.

just release optional features if they are done, so that you can poll anyone using it to get their opinion.

also forums are not a good place to even get feedback sometimes, as everyone can pretend to be 3 people. Get a player based poll system up and running. Not assuming what the players want based on the loudest on the forums.

I hope you don't mean it's gone forever, it was a lot better than the old one, just make it verticle and bam 90% of players would of saw it as an improvement .

I just dont' understand the reasoning of removing something optional without getting real feedback on TQ. Also wasn't the CSM in support of it too?

Agree with post above, new Neocom was a big step forward. Vertical argument was valid but we shouldn't throw out the baby with the bathwater! Current EVE UI is v.tired and people will winge whatever you do Sad

EDIT...used it on SISI, horizontal was good, liked the cinema feel - would have been using it full time on TQ. Choice and decent feedback is a good thing. Flashy logos were the only real pain, someone even suggested a coloured border to highlight these more subtly! Sad Sad story, again.

I have noticed my name get mentioned less and less over the past several months, how close are you guys to winning the 'war on me'?

I agree... many people are interested in testing such things, but dont want to mess about with singularity to have to do it.
It also seems a bit odd to pull a feature due to player feedback when such a tiny number of people have actually had a chance to try it before they start whining.

How can you say the critical issues have been sorted when many still can't access the Character Creator and you all (CCP) have not so much as acknowledged the problem's existence? This is getting so ridiculous that it's more a joke than anything else. Mad ugh Laughing

agreed, I really wanted it on TQ. a lot of my corp mates don't use SiSi and they all wanted to see it come to tQ. in fact Optional features on TQ in general seemed to be a big hit.

Yeah, I was looking forward to trying it out, never tested it as I only connect to TQ. A new UI is a great step in the right direction for EVE, I think, and of course as with anything, people will complain, but we should get more time to test it on TQ as was promised. Implement both vertical and horizontal modes, like most OSes allow with their interfaces (Windows does, Mac does, Linux does), listen to player feedback (within reason) and I'm sure it would eventually become a great addition to EVE. I know I was mostly looking forward to the new window management system. I'm always losing windows and ctrl-tab is a bit clunky.

Well, some people have still problems with the client just not launching, and there is no problem with either SM2 or SSE2. Is there anything you guys do on your end? One mate of mine is pretty upset about it.

Another one, is there any recognising of you guys that some people are not able to access the CC at all? That those very same people lost their free 2nd chance remake because of this?

Besides those two blatant unsolved issues, good god I'm glad this wasn't one big roll-out as before.. with all those bugs (overview neutrals bug, windows autoresizing again, AP going to lowsec, covert cynos accepting capitals, etc. pp) this would had been a total mess (again).

If I had one wish free I would really wish for you guys from CCP to give more feedback on OUR feedback. Several threads where problems with the CC and PI had been pointed out BEFORE CHRISTMAS have never seen a Dev response!
Not even a simple "We're still reading, keep em coming!" pat on the back thing.
And then, when the stuff hits TQ those bugs are still in there.. that sucks big hairy boulder balls.
We might as well not deliver feedback to you, cause for us it looks like you can't be arsed.
Yeah.. when the brown drop hits the rotary fan you can act (see the 17 page thread on the CC mess up with the finalise button thing). I say it again, this was KNOWN since CHRISTMAS!

Please get this to the attention of the right folks at CCP.
If Devs write a Devblog and put stuff out for testing they need to patrol the testserver forums AND their devblog-comment threads AND appear in them with comments.

TL;DR
WE NEED FEEDBACK FROM CCP ON OUR FEEDBACK FFS!

...... So many people actually liked it! It just needed to have a vertical option. And it wasn't required to be used by anyone. This was actually the only feature I was looking forward to. Nice one. :CCP:

^^Confirmation from a dev that the next expansion is Incarna.

As for the new neocom, it represented a direction 100% of players would eventually be forced to go after beta. Switching from Text to Icons (even if those icons have hover-over text) is awful and the whole concept deserves to die a violent bloody death. It reduces usability. Ctrl-tab usability was broken in a previous expansion with the same UI design concept and needs to be reverted to be primarily text.

CCP hypes up a new feature and then quietly cancels it. Shocking.

Here's a prediction: we won't see this again for a few years.

I too, was really looking forward to the Neo-Neo-Com. What feedback resulted in the feature being pulled - which corps were they in, and can I pod them, please?

On a more serious note - please release the feature as optional/experimental at least, and let the players try it out. There were some really nice improvements there, and whilst it certainly wasn't perfect, it was better than what we have.

If there were other reasons other than nebulous 'player feedback', please elaborate. If you intend to bring the feature back soon (proper soon, not Soon(tm) )in a slightly changed form, let us know.
