It doesn't feel right. Perhaps this will change later on with scars and piercings, but there's only as much accessories can do.

I don't recall 7 of 9 looking very bad for a merciless space conqueror? Razz

Next to that: you don't have to look evil to commit evil deeds.

7 of 9 did before she had most of her implants removed.

Okay. I'll buy that we would look better taking our pilot-photo, or whatever.

This theory does only work if we look more worn out when we engage in 3D-environments later on.

Of course the clone-theory works as well ... Yet I can't say I'm a big fan of this, but it's not like I can do much about it. I just hope that later on with additions it will become more realistic or whatever.

To the OP, reading the EVE Chronicle, "Hands of a Killer", might give you some perspective on why some characters (or most) looked so polished. Our characters are capsuleers, not bottom of the totem pole thugs meeking out an existence on some backwater planetoid, at least as far as the lore goes. We are an elite segment of the galactic civilization, very powerful, and very rich (even a new player is far more affluent than a regular person on a planet would be). A battleship, even with a capsuleer as a pilot, still requires thousands of personnel to man it. If we did all of our killing with our own hands, we would drown in the blood.

Edit: If you really want to illustrate the creepy, sadistic, but detached side of a player character, consider this. There is a set of npc commodity items seeded into the market. This set of items are called 'passengers'. You can buy 5,250 exotic dancers, load them all into a badger mk. 2, take them out into space and jettison the lot of them, and then either sit there for two hours while they suffocate before the jet can explodes, or blow them up yourself. You just bought and murdered over 5000 people, for no reason, and will not suffer any repercussions for it; you probably barely even registered the blip on your wallet. People say EVE is a cold, harsh place, and it is, but from a lore stand point that doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of how very dark it can be when you think about it. Really, a good looking, well put together person, who happens to be a horrific monster, is far more unsettling than a monster that looks like a monster. You expect the monster to act like a monster, he looks the part. But a well spoken, educated, affluent individual, who also happens to be one of the most cold hearted mass murderers ever to draw breath (and there are a few hundred thousand of them to boot)...that is what is really disturbing.

Edit 2: Go CCP, love you guys! And hurry up and bring back the Chronicles, in whatever form they will take. I miss them something terrible.

It does bother me a bit that the character creator doesn't have tattoos, piercings or those metallic implant-looking things that it used to have.

Or maybe those are only available to some bloodlines? D:

Do I now look more dangerous? More murderous? Perhaps I really am I nice guy just like my mother keeps saying? Perhaps I'm not unlovable, after all?

Tattoo's, piercings, and... etc.... will be coming out at a later date.

I'm no game developer, but I would think that just making 1 texture to cover all of someone's skin would be easier than all the other features, and hence released more quickly, but anywho, just wait a bit, you'll see all sorts of scars and metal plates eventually.

Ask the Amarr about our nature.

Yes, our Avatars look a bit too "nice". Because beauty means average. Ugly means extreme. The in between is the place where we Minmatar should be. And that means a lot of work.

To create someone that would also fit easily on a wanted poster for a terrorist photograph of the seventies. Some of those people were smart. They were really cunning. Some were even pretty. But all were sociopaths that would kill anybody just for talking to them. Or for their cause.

A bit of this is in us Minmatar. You don't see it on the skin. You see it by the way they look. Like Alica is smiling. But her smile is just set up, that you can see. The next moment she's going to beat the photographer up with a monkeywrench until he's not moving anymore.

Just because it's taking too long.

But -yes- we need more scars. We need our tattoos. We need piercings. And weapons. At least I need a dagger of honor for being Sebiestor. It's part of our culture that we are armed.

Have to agree with this, you can get a pretty good effect on your portrait if you spend some time at it.

You have to remember that capsuleers are ultra-ultra rich. They've also probably been cloned dozens of times, so scars would hardly be permanent.

A capsuleer would look less like the sociopathic violent mass murderer that he is, and more like a A-list celebrity or a executive.

Also, it is easily possible to make someone that looks ****ing malevolent. Look at one of my other characters, for instance.

Only a shameless Minmatar or hedonist Gallente would degrade both the noble title of starship captain and the honor of their crew by composing themself without dignity.

Correction...I do not
a) look kind
b)am not smiling
c) look like a soldier
d) look like my nose was broken at some point
e) have a scar on my lip and left cheek.

In short...you're wrong.

Do you think we should be covered in engine grease?
I really see no reason why we shouldn't be clean.

As for the model looks, there are numerous examples to the exact opposite:

I actually think we should be more clean, personally. Half of the men look like they've just come straight from the front lines of a planetary war.

We are pod pilots: Immortal gods with the wealth of a small nation. To say we are upper class would be an enourmous understatement. All of our murderous violence is done with a thought; the blood, sweat and tears is taken care of by other, more expendable people. Wink

Also, the vast majority of us are clones. Why would we have scars?

Very well said dear Caldari collegue!

As a matter of fact I honestly find it more puzzling that some of us look like inflatable dolls than that we look young and pretty and well taken care of.

Think of it as "Eve - The Next Generation" Updated sets, hipper characters, more marketable personalities, etc.

I'd like some additional rubbering tools to get into ugly better, but I wasn't consulted....

Exactly right.

Well, except about the part where all the capsuleers are cold-blooded mass murderers. Some of us are carebears, y'know! :p

But it's true. Most of us are not nice people. Only miners and industrialists can claim to be such. The rest of us, the mission runners, ratters, plex runners, and especially PvPers are responsible for the death of hundreds of thousands of people (each!) on a daily basis. That's billions of people dying by our hands, over and over and over again.

And yet, we all look so... perfect. But beauty, as they say, is skin deep...

One look at Teranul, who has been likened to having the face of a teenager (or younger!), and you would never once think her capable of such mass destruction. And yet she is. Thousands of people dying by her hands every few minutes. All in the pursuit of greater wealth...
