Can't wait to change my face and can't wait to make the first anti-incursion fleets.

The character creator is purely amazing on sisi now and I expect a few suprises when you launch it on TQ.

The incursions also seem like a great feature, so waiting for them badly!

Just hope the DT will be more or less 6-13, not 6-24 or even till the next day.

ps - how big will the patch be?

Why no patch notes ahead of the DT itself? I don't recall that as ever happening before.

On the features page, the Incursions themselves are listed for deployement on January 25th, not the 18th. All the others features (new PI, Character Creator, etc ...) are listed for the 18th.

Not publishing the patch notes in advance suggests they still haven't decided what changes they are going to make. That is very worrying from a testing and quality assurance perspective.

Maybe because they do not want players to know those changes in advance. Like what happened with the skillbooks change.

Interesting. On the incursion web site it shows that the incursion part is due after the 18th patch. ie 25th January 2011-Incursions!

So a 4th patch?

How soon after patching can we expect to find the patch/client .torrent on eve files? Is ccp at last going to seed proper torrents or are they going to continue trying to quietly install bit torrent dna on peoples computers without telling them.

Lack of torrents has made eve patching a pain for years, despite repeated complaints :(

Somewhere there is a note explaining what is going on. The patch is the 18th but the actual first Incursions won't occur until the 25th. So no patch just 7 days to make sure nothing bad is happening with the updates and then they'll switch on the actual attacks.

The reason why patch notes will now be published during the deployment instead of in advance is so that we can give a full and final list at the time of publication. Up until the very last minute we will be fixing defects and ensuring that we can get as much into the release as possible.

Historically we have seen that patch notes can be published and then some things are cut while others are added quite late. This means if someone has read the notes early and is expecting a certain change or fix which is pulled at the last minute then those players can end up being quite frustrated.

This new process means that more players can read the notes while waiting for the release to go live on the full and final build.

that point is extremely worrying.

EDIT: as is the fact that you are starting the update so early and supposedly finishing deployment so early.....me thinks more like 0600 to 1900 is a more realistic timeframe.

Code development is always an ongoing thing and with something as sophisticated as Eve, it can't be surprising that some of the changes will be last minute. I welcome the changes whole-heartedly and look forward to all the juicy content you have in store for us :)

Some questions:

  • Are we forced to create a new avatar or can we do it later?

  • Are we allowed to change bloodline in order to change char view from asian style to for example european style?

  • Are chars like me with only one name are forced to add a second name?

And this way the players have no way to get together and tell you a change is insanely bad. This has happened before and you don't wish it to happen again. We get ambushed.

This isn't worrying. What would be the point of stopping work a few days before the release? All the changes are going to be tested and if there is anything that isn't ready close to the release it'll most likely be removed.

Really looking forward to this update :)

Have you fixed PI then? As it stand currently on SISI extraction amounts are 50% LESS now than on TQ...

I am a near perfect PI char lvl4 skills minimum on all extraction based skills.

Any defects that are taking up to the last minute to fix, wont get any testing, they'll get deployed along with everything else and CCP will sit there with crossed fingers for a few hours whilst 'us' guinea pigs do the testing.

Im also looking forward to the update, but if im honest, i dont expect it to go smoothly at all and expect a lot of bugs getting deployed on to TQ.

I disagree. If you pull a change at the last minute how can you test the impact of the removal? Software testing is very hard. The standard approach is to freeze code quite a while before release, to allow through testing.

Oh yeah, software testing is a complicated process. I should probably have been a bit clearer. If CCP are doing some final testing on Monday and find a problem with something they can remove or change that one part of the update, rebuild the update and test it again. If that is still going to be a problem it could well be a late night Monday :P

I imagine there has been a lockdown on code but testing will still continue and there is still quite a lot of time to make any last minute fixes. I'm not saying that they're still starting new art assets for the Character creator or anything :P

The problem is that the patch notes are released although they are not final. It was common to have items from the patch notes removed and reintroduced and stuff like that. People getting frustrated by this is absolutely normal (like the person writing the patch notes should be). The solution is not to release the patch notes during or even after the deployment (have you tried that by the way?). The solution is to finalise early and only do testing and QA. If something proves not as intended after the finalised patch notes have been released, you will have to remove it and its reference from the patch notes. It's a mistake you are allowed to make.

Everything else is an excuse for being lazy to write the notes earlier and most importantly to commit to a specific feature list. Even the release date has been pushed back and is announced pretty late (in my not so humble opinion). I aplaud your effort to increase the quality in an attempt to release a polished product, but the quality of a release is not only measured by the code but also by how it is release.

It's ok, just next time do better.

Are you finally going to add new keyboard shortcuts as explained in this dev blog or has this been cancelled?

Features-page still incorrectly claims that this has already been implemented in 30th November 2010 patch.
