Why is it that EvE players can not vote, unless they got a facebook account. But random people not playing EvE can vote in ships for a game they never played?

I could imagine a larger community for another MMO easily making a joke out of this. Or just people that are bored on facebook.

Can CCP please stop this contest now. Start from scratch again using EvE voting system for EvE players. And I mean ALL EvE players.

The person in charge of this contest should really be ashamed!

This way they can tell who is a bot by checking their picture. If it's a picture of a computer they can ban that person's account.

Because CCP thinks it will give them exposure, though at the expense of thier current base. IOW, they've not learned anything from the contest.

This was the most ret.ardious decision ever to make this vote accessible to failbook users only.

Because while it is very hard to believe as a long time ago this awesome game was crated, it would appear the no competent person works at CCP today. The crap they pull used to be funny, now it is just sad.

I mean how ******ed do you have to be to use facebook for this? hey CCP, I have a better idea. why don't you ask us to give you our gmail user-names and passwords so you can invite our friends to eve as well?

Please, I know there must be at least one competent person there. Put him on a chair, and before making any decisions, just ask him. if he faceplams, don't do it.

I wonder if they will even have the guts to do the CCP panel this year. Cause there are so many things to be said...
I mean one of the devs states there will never be any microtransactions in eve. They make a presentation about dust and say how it is targeted at completely different players then eve. eve players plan, take their time and so on, dust payers just sit down and shoot. that is why microtransactions will be used for dust, but never for eve, because of the different type of player base. one is made for microtraqnsactions with their quick gratification type of gameplay, and one is clearly made for a subscription based model.
And then one day one idiot wakes up and say...I think microtransactions will be good for eve and its playerbase...its gonna make a better game. And does the famous evolution dinosaur metaphor...which as I said, was no longer funny but sad

they pull this kind of crap all the time, this facebook **** is the least of the problems.
the trick is not to care, but as you can see some of us fail at that...

Maybe the problem is that devs who actually play the game are not in any positions of power. Those who once played, probably don't any more, but make all the decisions. One could even say they have failed to evolve and have become dinosaurs...
No matter how you look at it, its the least crap of the current MMO market, by far, nothing even comes close. And even if they continue to pull this crap they will still have the best MMO. Because of the whole investor - developer relationship (the wrong one making development decisions) it is highly unlikely a good new MMO will come out.

tldr
**** faceboook, and **** all you ******s at CCP
now if you will excuse me, my hands are shaking and I have to log in.

Proof CCP is switching or has always been (I don't know) looking for new players rather than appeasing old. But they can take it a bit further and staight up **** old players off and walk all over them because they're invested in the game.

One CCP idiot held up a graph that showed income ratio generation. And the bar on the left which represented new players was 80% higher than old players.

So they said we need more new players now! Screw everyone else. It's funny that this modle has created a prety watered down eve universe remember the old days? With player driven content? Now it's more like 18 titans blew up great. They'll have 18 more popping out of their production lines on tuesday. Look new players you can fly a titan.

Instead of playerscreating interesting and existing pvp content the focus on new players has led to things like faction warfare. Which they then don't bother to develope at all because hey that's not the point, they got it there for new players and they're in now.

The person responsible for this lame facebook contest should look for a new job.

Its so ******ed its not even funny on a tragic comic level.

We can only hope CCP wakes up and undo the mistake.

you guys are so emo, seriously.

Your over reacting to nothing, and the normal people don't want to post here because you're scarying them.

also I detect, once again, at least 8 alt posts, POST WITH YOUR MAIN.

thankfully the majority don't care either way, and you're just being louder.

Here, look.

No, it's not. It's a moderately bad idea, that is still a much better idea than letting DA vote. It's not perfect, and making it based on facebook votes instead of eve online accounts is obviously just a ploy to get new users. It's not a turn towards ccp not caring about it's older playerbase, that's the most stupid thing I've ever heard.

It's just advertising, which in this case is sorta in bad taste. END OF STORY.

This is not the end of the world, nor does it call for some sort of witch hunt. Only crazy, _______________ would be so upset. No offense.

It's just a tiny blip on eve history which will be forgotten, save your rage for something important to complaint about.

OH GOD THEY MADE MY FAVOITRE SHIP A DIFFERENT COLOR SCHEME THIS MUST MEAN THE END OF EVE AND THE DEVS ARE NOW LAME AND HATE US!

there is no other mmo with a long term commitment to it's game. They started with 5 people, moved up to 12 when I joined, and now they have over 60 people working on eve. That's a commitment to older players if I ever saw one.

sure they had like 200 for an expansion a while ago, but you can't just pay attention to absolutes or fringe examples like an UNIMPORTANT art contest.

seriously, you guys are calling out NGE on an art contest that is hosted by A COMPPANY THAT IS NOT CCP

This thread will be forgotten in a week, and no one will care anymore.

So you really think that there is a large/statistically significant problem with non-EVE players subscribing to the EVE Facebook page?

I don't have a Facebook account and I won't create one for voting. Easy as that.
But for beeing an EVE player for more than 5 years, I feel sad about the fact that I cannot participate. There are some pretty decent submissions which I'd love to vote for.

Shame on CCP that they prefer a bunch of Facebook-junkies over their playerbase. Sad

Everyone is trying to compartmentalise their customers in to a demograph and kettle that demograph in to a captive audience they can target and exploit and extort lots of free market research from. Look around - a lot of big companies are now linked up to facebook. Every promotion, competition, focus group etc is being herded toward facebook.

The only reason for that is to remove your privacy and farm your consumer habits. Stuff that normally costs big companies money in consultancy fees and marketing etc.

Pretty much this. I PAY CCP for 2 accounts and choose not to subscribe to Facebook. Why is CCP failing me as a PAYING member of their customer base?

Well I'm not voting because I use Facebook to keep in touch with my friends. I don't want my real life identity involved with gaming stuff, and I don't want to grant a FB application access to all my RL info just to vote in a contest.

CCP live in Iceland and they want to meet more people than live there so they really really like social networking, it is lonely as computer career orientated people on a cold rock in the ocean so they reach out to people in the hopes that they might get rescued off that tiny barren rock or can lure someone to come visit them or move in with them.

PS: This is directed mostly at the mostly male employees of CCP...for some reason.

Oh FFS, why is this so complicated?

1) Make throwaway email address.

2) Make throwaway facebook account with a fake name and the throwaway email address, and provide absolutely zero (real) personal information.

3) Never log in to the throwaway accounts ever again.

Sure, it's kind of annoying that CCP is hoping that we'll give them free advertising by getting all our non-EVE-playing friends to vote for our entries, but all the whining and crying about privacy is pure tinfoil hat stupidity.

Then the problem is something on your end (maybe a browser in need of updating/changing?), not with the contest site. Sure, switching to a different system might have made it work for you, but it could very easily have stopped working for someone else who is able to vote using the facebook system. You just can't judge CCP's choice of voting systems by a very rare technical problem of unknown origin.

Anyway, my comment wasn't aimed at you, it was intended for the idiots saying stuff like:

"Well I'm not voting because I use Facebook to keep in touch with my friends. I don't want my real life identity involved with gaming stuff, and I don't want to grant a FB application access to all my RL info just to vote in a contest."

Sorry, but if you're too stupid to figure out how to make a fake account on facebook to keep your precious real-life identity (which nobody cares about) secret, you don't deserve to be playing EVE.
