Can't speak for the thread, but I liked your ship. Ignore the haters

You ship looks good but honestly to me it looks like you took the Normandy right out of mass effect, added a few little subtle details and re-skinned it. The originality is lacking. But you did a good job with the little changes you made.

I kinda like it, however, its a tad to "Curvy" for caldari ships.

However, getting mad over it wont change anything.

Moral of the story: Never ever create/submit anything for CCP again.... and warn others. Ask ten times the real life money if they offer you some real life job. Some lessons have to get learned the hard way.

IMO, it should have been entered. Whether you personally like it or not, it was a reasonably popular ship and the whole point of the contest was to let the community decide the winners. Even ignoring the apparent misunderstanding over whether the voting would be on all legitimate ships or CCP's choice of them, this design should not have been rejected.

Nothing wrong with that, the rules only ban artist logos/signatures/etc*. Nothing in the rules prevent's the use of CCP's logos/etc. In fact, since the deviantart winners used CCP's racial logos, I'd say it's a pretty clear precedent that the rules were not intended to ban them.

*Why ban signatures when the judging uses the artist's real names? Who knows, maybe something to do with possible future use of the winning images elsewhere?

Meh... while I don't exactly agree with the OP's message of "wah I didn't get chosen so I ragequit", I am disappointed at what has been accepted. It's all CG stuff, and not all of us have those sort of programs or the anal-attentiveness required to sit there for hours working on wireframes, textures etc.
I personally was going to submit something drawn on paper and spruced up in Photoshop, but once I saw that it was going to be a massive fapfest to CGI work I figured meh, why waste my time.

Welcome to the art world of 2010: pencil sketches just aren't good enough anymore. And since there are 100% free programs that can do professional-quality work, your only excuse is that you're too lazy to produce something as awesome as the digital artists. Too bad for you.

PS: not all of the entries are 3d models.

*looks at ship*

No. It does not look like the Normandy. Not sure where you're getting this at all.

[snip] Anyway, for those that don't like my work, its your choice, I know my work pales great compared with so many out there, I will just have to work at it.

Obviously you don't or you wouldn't have made this thread.

There were literally one pieces there i would have chosen instead of your piece - deciding which fillers to put in among the real contenders is always difficult.

In short, don't be sore in the behind because you didn't get in.

Of course, judging from this thread you're the kind of person that thinks they are just so *special* that life owes them something. It don't - get over it or prepare for more experiences like this.

OP I really liked your design, I wouldve voted for it only if the propulsion was on the OTHER end of the ship, would've looked so cool and unique. Maybe next time you can do that and have a better chance. The way it looks now is very unoriginal to be honest.

I just wonder, is facebook the only way to vote? Seems pretty crappy to me. You play an MMO, vote for the MMO, but required to have something as lame and useless as facebook?

Also not many or any gallente ships? Or is it just me? Seems majority is amarr/caldari.

personally, what bothers me most is unresponsiveness of CCP. there was very little communication during and after submission period. some pieces were shown, some where not.

and choice of 20 from only 47 is odd. there must have been more acceptable works. for example, where is Stahvogel? it's just about perfect Caldari design. it was in submitted phase. where is it now?

so, why only 47? is CCP afraid that more choice would overwhelm people and dilute voting? or, are they afraid people would manipulate votes to push their favorites? and how current selection helps in this? it IS supposed to be people's choice. if there is no trust in people, then why promote it as such.

i really don't see any reason to be part of future contests, unless CCP addresses these issues. while it may seem selfish, i did my ship so it can be seen, not locked away in some archive. maybe it could inspire someone to make a better variant. i can take it if people say my design sucks. at least i would have some feedback.

from CCP, i just got this big question mark. WTS

More devianTart crap; I'm seeing a pattern with the butthurt, rejection of entries, and the rants about rules. Anyone else seeing this pattern?

Who knows why its only 47, maybe they realize that the website stopped properly receiving submissions (by how much I wonder) and just said "bugger it" and carried on as quickly and as they could... bah I don't know, I'm making stories up for them when they should be informing us what went wrong and 'extend the time' of the contest to actually do it properly. I'd rather that then them going absolutely silent on the issue and pretending nothing is wrong. We're not blind for heavens sakes.

All they had to do was say something like "Sorry, we've had some issues with the submission process and so in the interest of doing it right by the EVE community we'll be rescheduling the competition to resolve certain issues, I'm sure you can understand with us all here at CCP being busy with further EVE Online releases plus Christmas & New Years. Please for now just hold on to your submissions, maybe try your hand at another one too, and we'll keep you informed when the issues have been resolved. Thanks everyone for your patience. CCP TEAM"

..something like that, seems fine to me - I could have waited another couple months easy. Maybe the deal they have with facebook had a time limit on it?

but I'm doubting we'll hear any response from CCP. Still doesn't make sense why they wouldn't. I don't know, maybe I'll get a message from them in a few days but at this stage it doesn't look likely.

The hardcore supporters of CCP on this thread are right, it is just a competition that isn't worth whining about, even if it doesn't work as advertised, but then if that is the case - why should we care about entering it then?
EVE Online and every other game out there is 'just a game' too and no reason to get aggro about it when things go wrong. - BUT - ..we are human after all, probably why so many "people" play EVE to see/hear/taste the tears of others when their ship goes boom. (they're here as well if you noticed, these forums are mini web EVE).

Heh :) Maybe your right, when you put some effort into making something and see it not even included to be actually judged (that would be you and the like been able to look at it officially and say 'bah thats ****!' and not vote for me) then its pretty annoying since it does take time which can feel a little wasted. But I'm boring you..

Interesting.. maybe I keep hoping EVE ships change to a more common design for spaceships. Its a tough crowd though. Too many to try to please, maybe a taste of what CCP has to put up with? :)

He got robbed of his creative license, and chance to be voted on, end of story.
Sounds more like he gave it away freely.

I disagree. He made a contract for his work to change hands if it was accepted into the competition.

I personally have it worse, because I know mine was accepted, then discarded.

There was no basis or reasonable argument for rejection of his work, as it's obviously very high quality and meets all of the criteria for acceptance.

Instead CCP chose, as you can see now, invalid work, and even work that wasn't creatively sound (The tormentor, heron, and hyena on the page right now)

Noro did they email you saying that they rejected it? Just wondering - I didn't receive any notification recently apart from one email ages ago concerning my inquiry as to why images were not uploading in a timely manner (or lack of it) to the official site - pretty much just says they'll review and pre-qualify all submissions before putting up on the site...

I guess (ah more guessing) that they rejected it based on... no idea really. Wasn't that the whole point for the competition for the EVE community to vote on what they actually liked and not a cut down group cleaned for 'mainstream consumption'? Even that doesn't make much sense..

... this sort of reminds me of the cookie cutter type election we had recently enough in Australia - used to be so very MANY different parties to vote for (many years ago) on a ballot paper - the polling place where I voted for there was only now 3 :) One of them being the play thing of one of the larger of the 3 ;) Yay to window dressed democracy, yeehaa.

They're coming out with new character portraits and are advertising in the mecca of narcissism where people create online shrines to themselves.

It's not suprising, just funny how that was the main part of this 'expansion' goes to show what kind of players/base it is catering towards. The new and flaky ones are more important than the players who actually made eve what it is.
