/// UI Feedback - New Build 5th Jan ///

'Extreme' option seems to have vanished for Hair & Clothing - but, to my eyes, Hairstyles seem to have improved a lot in anti-aliasing at the tips; more realistic - perhaps it's just subjective, and it's actually the same - but it seems better to me...

(Obvious bugs already mentioned) - Black backgrounds, and missing icons (Gender, Race, 'Training School', etc...)

The actual UI... Generally, I'm very impressed...! I'm so glad to see you've fixed all the annoying bugs that were listed. So much stuff works that just didn't before - BIG thank you.

History bar doesn't fill up like crazy, which is brilliant.

There's a very useful HELP icon in the bottom corner, which keeps it's info on-screen even as you work, which is excellent. The only thing I'd add to that (because I'd hate it if new people didn't notice it) is I'd like to see it 'pulse' when I first move into a new screen to 'signal' that there's some new info in there 'for me'... That'd be useful.

The new colour selectors are great - and do actually give a fair indication of colour (sweet) - just need MOAR colours now Wink

The colour selectors for lights are much better than they were - far less confusing - just need them to change actual colour now.

The new backgrounds are superb (Amarr, gallente, etc...) - and I really like that the 'cool' backgrounds are now at the start of the list, and not way far away at the ends - Please add in some Pirate faction backgrounds that are as cool as that Amarr one, and people will be thrilled, I reckon. Though what would be even better, would be more of the same...Exclamation If there can be one cool background with Amarr symbols (for example), then three would be even more 'excellent' Cool

There's still no 'Reset Expression' option in the Poser - but... The mouth controls (seem to) 'snap' quite strongly into a neutral position, which is great - I just wish eyebrows could do the same, that'd make things so much easier to control...

Talking of control. Female breasts are now far more 'sculptable' - far smoother to control, no more Insta-huge-tiny-huge-tiny-huge problems - although, I'd still love to see the minimum breast size being smaller than is currently available.

Skin-tone options for males are also back to working properly.

Things to fix?

Some clothing; trousers & shoes (for example), still don't match the colour of their pictures - ie. I've seen jungle-cammo trousers turn out to be just black.

Guys (Intaki hint hint) still need better long hair options.

I'm having serious lag while running the character creator, so I have trouble telling what's working and what isn't. Normally, to lag this badly, I have to be in combat with ~20 other ships while my computer is overheating.

Definitely need some way to scroll through the options without loading them on the character. I'd honestly prefer a larger menu to open to view all options in each section (or as many as possible at once) rather than scrolling through 3 at a time.

Clothing options all look the same, just with slightly different coloration.

I haven't figured out how to open the color menus. This may be a result of lag, but they seem to open randomly rather than due to a particular click. They also seem to close before I can even pick a color. I've yet to even see the eye color menu, but the eye color changed on its own when I changed eye types.

What happened to tattoos? Will they come back?

Edited to add: This was while editing an existing character. The race selection menu never loaded when I tried to create a new character.

  • Sometimes you want to remove an option like blush or cloth completely. But there is no way to do that.

you actually can: once you've selected a piece of clothing, you can remove it again by clicking the small X at the top right of each selection wheel.

i see, the character editor is making steady progress!
last time i checked, the eyebrow colour slider wasn't clickable and changing some colour required selecting a new hair/eyebrow/makeup style or it wouldn't update. glad to see that's been fixed now!
some hair styles still won't use the secondary colour, though.

the only feature i'm really missing is body art (piercings and tattoos). if you've ever played fallen earth, something like that would be fantastic. also, i wouldn't mind tweaking the skin colour a bit.

/// More UI Feedback - New Build 5th Jan ///

Amarr male robes still clip badly with boots/shoes, and the left sleeve still has a 'hole' in it (reversed normals, or something...)

Also, when viewed from various angles in the Pose-mode, parts of the hood go transparent. Example 1, Example 2.

The metal head-plates that Amarr males can have no longer count as a 'two colour' hairstyle - so you're stuck with silver plates; we used to be able to use a secondary colour option to get gold plates/black etc...

Tooth problem still remains -
1. In the Sculpt-mode, go to the side view, and 'pull' the mouth as far back towards the back of the head as it'll go, and/or pull the bottom lip back as well.
2. Go into Pose-mode, then make the character smile as much as possible without moving the jaw - the bottom row of teeth will stick-out through the lips.
3. Fixable by making the bottom row of teeth 'locked' to the mouth position, or make them transparent while the mouth is closed (trickier, and less likely to work, I'd think.)

It's still not possible to open the mouth by very much.

Head rotation in the 'up' direction is much better though Smile

Male facial hair menu - when you select a style, everything works correctly but the various options scroll back to position/option '1' instead of staying on the option you selected.

I am having a problem right now with the character creator background disappearing in the latest build. As the first page of the character editor is also completely black with the exception of the next button, I cannot select a race or bloodline. If I try to edit an existing character then the background during creation is black and some buttons have disappeared, like the view button for head and clothes in the upper left and the skin colour wheel in the character creation.

GFX is NVIDIA GTX480. The problem appeared with the latest Sisi Build 6.40.218350

Just used the new character creation software for the first time – very impressed overall. I experimented with my main, a female Caldari Achura.

Issues: like others have reported, some of the user interface controls are invisible, namely:

- skin tone
- zoom into face/ out to body

Also, I noticed the colour of underwear could previously be changed – either the interface is also invisible like those above, or it doesn’t exist anymore?

One disappointing feature was that I popped on a pretty long dress under ‘outer’ (outer clothing dress 1/9 and 2/9), however I couldn’t progress to the portrait screen without wearing some trousers which ruined the long dress - is this intentional?? I hope not!

Overall I found the software very easy to use and other than the issues raised above my only criticism is a lack in the variety of clothes, and also in accessories e.g. earrings, necklaces, tattoos, hats, gloves etc etc.

NB: this was using the new build with ATI graphics card

Deviana, like some others have noted (above and below) it is possible to select a Race and Bloodline, but unfortunately, because the icons for each choice are currently invisible you really need to know 'where to click' - your mouse pointer will change when you're above a valid choice.

If you follow the link in my Signature, you'll find a number of videos; some of which will 'give away' the locations you need to click... Like this one, for example... Everyone's having the same problem I'm sure, so it's not your card that's at fault.

I will not repeat the known issue, but I will post a sample on how things have improved... these are my last 2 creations, one from the previous build and the second with the current one. Now that eye shadow works well, and the color palette can be "highlighted" to show colors closer to real, it's been pretty easy to step out of the usual makeup colors and bring some realistic makeup to an aged gloy of New Eden...

Female Khanid: Tinkering with camera angles & lighting, previous build (that's about as much smiley as they get, btw):

Please visit your user settings to re-enable images.

Female (and unimpressed) Achura: Tinkering with age (strength 3), freckles a.k.a age spots (strength 2), scarring (strength 2) and the new and pretty much functional makeup (green makeup that doesn't looks like Kermit, now it's easier being green):

Can you change the options so I can look like I do now?

Please give some darker skin opitons, some abilty to round facial features (nose cheeks) and make myself look more west asian... I never would have rolled this class if I was going to look like a korean.

I could probably do ok with the other gallente provided they had some darker skin options..I mean , at least what the call "olive colored" (not really sure where that came from) and better ways of looking older without looking gaunt... I don't know enough about art to tell you how, but I do know that the past system had characters looking like all sorts of different ages.. it was more about relaxing of facial muscles than adding wrinkles I think.

And really, were are the nice round featured people of the world ? the Scotts, the Irish, the Souther italians (the gallente do pretty good job at loooking like peopele from milan.. and you can actually do an ok greek somehow while missing the other medieranian times with wounder features) and i havn't seen anything that looks like a decent latino........ I know its not supposed to be earth, but when you got a lot of the earth there and leave a lot out.. it just feels like you care less about those sorts.

I've looked around a bit and no one has said anything about the Vherokior face masks yet! I mean Minmatar tattoos, Caldari headset, and the Amarr hoods but... My favorite part and the reason I made a Vherokior was because of the face mask.

If this isn't part of the game will there be a way to change bloodlines then?

Oh and one other thing. I like how the characters are moving and all making them look life-like but my computer is deathly slow even with the graphics set low so when I go to grab and scult the head to the way I like it the face "breathes" and it screws me up because of lag... I'm a really patient person and all but I would really like a freeze character button. And a face mask. Very Happy

A bit offtopic.
Speaking about height. In some games like AoC, PE or Aion you can ajust heght, but actually what it does is jusy scaling the whole body model(If you make your character taller, he became wider and bigger, with bigger arms, legs), or you can scale body and head separately, which is not realistic. Making it realistic means separating height and proportions which modifies the model, animation. If CCP would give you wide variety of heights you will bi seing a ot of tiny cute gnomes and enourmous giants, if variety is small, you won't even notice it in game.
And, btw, are anybody here crying, snarling, or smile wide on their driver's licence photos, or other ID-documents?

A few other things...

  • Faction inspired backgrounds maybe? Guristas, Angels, Sansha, SoE etc

  • Definitely a +1 for more variety of poses, the current poses deform clothes way too much no matter what you choose.

  • An option to freeze the character's animation, but not only that, freeze and put them in a neutral pose, standing straight pose (APB also had characters who animated while in the editor, but had a freeze option. The problem was half the times the characters would freeze at an odd lopsided pose).

still very little in terms of interesting or different outfits and looks for gallente males.

we look boring! realistic, yes, but dull! you wouldnt look out of place walking arround in london looking like these people. thats not what a futuristic sci fi game character should look like. or at least, we should have to option to make them look different.

make some interesting hear for men. androgyny, crazy hear, interesting makeup. clothing that looks like you cannot just find it in the stores around town. just something to define it as the future! ie, not today!

least of all, give us the option to rework the clothing and hear for our portraits for free when new stuf comes out cuz its just lame the stuf men have.

sorry for ranting, it just seems a lot of us have been ignored in these requests.

I was able to recreate a character yesterday. Some of the problems with the character creator that I noticed.

There isn't an option for Blue or Green hair for Gallente. This is simply not realistic, You gotta Have Blue (And Green) Hair.
There also need to be more bun influenced hairstyles, although the current variety is acceptable.
I like how facial hair can now be made to match the hair on the top of the head, and give a choice for people who have different facial hair from top of the head hair.

There simply are not enough options for glasses, I think that currently, all the choices have the same pair of glasses, The character creator needs more eye wear, There should be large sunglasses, small sunglasses, round sunglasses, square sunglasses, large/small/round/square/ regular glasses. As well as a command eyepiece, and a monocle.

We need headgear, veils for Amarrians, and hats. I don't know if floating translucent hats fit in the current artistic direction; but if they do, we need floating translucent hats.

Most of the collars on shirts seem to heavy for my taste. Also there need to be dresses of various types and lengths.

The portrait creator is interesting in allowing a person to take four pictures, However it only lets you use one picture (I'm also kinda peeved at choosing the absolute worst picture that I created). Perhaps there should be an idiot dialog of some kind, showing you the picture that you have chosen to use and asking if you are sure you want to use that picture.
However, since the portrait creator seems to be able to take four pictures, perhaps a character can have all four pictures, and a switch in their bio to choose between them at their leisure. Perhaps a player will want a 'Hi I'm a Pirate' picture one day, and a 'Hi I'm a legitimate business woman' picture another day.

I don't know if it's my computer or the game, but when I tried it, the tool was really, really, really slow. Like, it took at least 30 seconds to load anything I tried to change Mad Maybe if this is a common problem (not sure if it is, I didn't read all the posts) have the option to lower the graphics settings?

Also, there needs to be more customizability. Clothes, face shape, hair etc.

LASTLY: can we customize our height plz? Or is it coming later? Maybe I just wasn't paying attention and missed it.

The avatar creator is amazing. I am completely happy with it. However...

MY only issue is something I am being assured by CCP is not really an issue.
Mostly all of the outfits, hairstyles, and general looks that defined the races and existed in the current character creator are missing. I've tried to remake each one of my characters and instead of looking anything like the old ones, they look like completely different people. I would appreciate a way to recreate exactly what the old character looked like but with better graphics.

Just sayin'.

I'm assured that this is a WIP and CCP will add outfit and hairstyle options to the game at release. The only thing I hope they add with the upcoming idea of Incarna is the ability to change your character's look for ISK. Either way I'm still playing this game even if my character doesn't look like I want.

Thanks,
Anne

NOTE: CCP, take a look at APB's character creator...and not it's gameplay lol.
