I am not normally a guy that cries ďracismĒ but i feel this really needs to be looked at when the character creator is released.

In role playing games I like to create a character that looks somewhat like me. However, after selecting Gallante as my in-game race i was disappointed to find that i could not create a dark skinned character. Then after looking a bit deeper into the issue, i was disturbed to find that the only dark skinned characters in the game belong to a slave race.

Now, i donít know how things are in Iceland or what sort of box the developers live in but this just seems plan wrong to me. I could write this off as an oversight when they created the game but after trying out the new character creator, it appears that this original design choice remains.

I feel that strongly about this that if the final character creator does not allow me choose my skin tone, I will write to several games media outlets to try and get some mainstream attention... If such a fuss was made of resident evil 5 only having black zombies, iím pretty sure some people will be interested to learn that if you want to be black in eve, you have to be a slave.

I hope you understand where iím coming from.

aside for the 'slave' issue you brought up, i do agree that you should be able to make your character look as you would want (skin color, racial features).

also i am not sure if this was mentioned before but many people, like myself, chose their original race/tribe solely due to the attributes layout, choosing what best would suit their play style(ie, skills they planned to train most). this is the reason why i chose minmitar brutor tribe. that race/tribe combo was simply the best for high perception/willpower attributes. now that this is no longer in play due to attribute remaps, i feel that i should not be forced to play a character whose race does not fit with what i would otherwise have chosen. especially due to the fact that the character detail now is so high, and with walking in stations on the way, identifying with your character will play a bigger part in this game, alot more than just an avatar on a killmail as it is today.

given this argument, which i think is sound, i ask the devs - please allow 1 race change, or at least 1 tribe change.

Just one question concerning the Jin-Mei.

As far as I can tell they were supposed to be a group that looked asian. However, trying to create a Jin-Mei character on Singularity, there was no way to make my character look even remotely asian. The darkest haircolor was dark brown and there was no way to shape the eye into an asian looking shape.

Am I wrong to assume that Jin-Mei were supposed to be asian looking initially?Shocked

I wanted to have a go with your original version of Zora. The Gallente Gallente female model is a bit hard to get a nice face similar to the old one which is very cute. Your new version has a really strong jawline, much softer in the original. Also the "mannequin/Harlequin" lip colors jump out really strong. I was able to juggle the lipstick colors nearer to your original.

Here's my version of you. The poses came out really nice which is surprising as the model overall is a bit all over the place. Check her out, I hope you like her:

Please give us the ability to turn off character movement while we're creating them. My graphics card struggles enough with this without having to re-render constantly because my character can't stop wiggling their eyebrows and bouncing from foot to foot like a kindergartner who needs to ****.

Had a nice red going on before.

We don't even get to choose what kind of nipples we get. I remember explicitly asking for nudity. CCP? SPLAIN.

First a technical point: I don't see any hair mesh. But then I have a low end system (NV 7600, shader quality to low or I die) and use linux (no other noticable problems though). Anybody else?

I didn't get any hair meshes when the "simulated cloth and hair" option wasn't selected. And even when selected, many hair types are missing either the mesh or parts of it.

The height issue have been on the table and talked about. Its just that CCP has stated that no height selection will be made available. Kind a hard to continue discussing about it. It's pretty obvious that 99,99% of players would like it to be implemented. It's out of our hands. Input has been given and CCP said "no".

With the old char creator it is possible to create dark skinned avatars other than Minmatar. Take a look at the Gallente Intaki woman below. A lot of the topics we have in this thread are about not being able to reproduce the look and feel of our current avatars due to limitations of jewelry and other accessories, hair styles and colors, limited uniform style clothes, etc.

Other char creation issues from my point of view are the handling of eyebrows by the char creator, the limitations of ears and char height.

I must say, my biggest complaint thus far is that I can't load hair without the shader settings on 'high.' I don't have a video card that can handle this, and I don't feel as if I should be forced to buy one to run a new patch of a game which, by my standards, already looks perfectly fine. And I think that I am not alone... if the character creator ships in this condition you may lose a number of subscribers.

So please CCP, find a way to render hair on low shader settings, or at least give us a button to stop our characters from twitching incessantly so that we can get at least 5FPS. That's all I'm really asking for :)

Otherwise, great job!

Because it probably has something to do with the complex and lifelike animations in Incarna. That or it doesn't really matter when you'll still just be a head and shoulders in a picture. Maybe they'll add the option with incarna.

Ok, just booted up the new version, and there's a boatload of problems with the CC. First off, as HyperZerg said, there's just a blank screen for race selection. I was able to get past this, but only with random clicking. Next, the bloodline selection is a bit wonky. The lighting isn't very good (compared to earlier versions), and there's no bloodline names. For male/female, there's no symbols. You have to click on where you think the symbols should be. In the CC itself, there's no background, only black. This makes seeing dark hair almost imposible. Next, the complexion wheel is gone. Just a blank space where it should be. You can change the complexion, though, with more random clicking. The problems are still there after trying to repair the client, restarting, and futzing around with my graphics settings. Below are some pictures of what's wrong:

Race Screen:

Please visit your user settings to re-enable images.

Bloodline/Gender Screen:

Please visit your user settings to re-enable images.

CC Screen:

Please visit your user settings to re-enable images.

Complexion Wheel (or lack thereof):

Please visit your user settings to re-enable images.

On the plus side, the hair issues are fixed, and the color selections are much easier to read.

apparently the clones are all the same hight... wich I think it the worst part with this creator you won't notice it now but it's gonna look very stupid when incarna comes IMO i'd rather wait with the char creator longer it doesn't seem like it's gonna be finished the 18th
atleast not as finished as i want it ;P

Some thoughts about the new version:

  • New char creation doesn't work. Black screen.

  • The color selection menu for all options is now pretty good.

  • Opacity slide for eye shadow works now.

  • When you select other options for example eyes the avatar is updating correctly.

  • Scarring 3 seems to be less scarred than Scarring 2.

  • Skin color in complexion is missing. (Maybe CCP is adding skin colors!?)

Some other thoughts:

  • If a body (especially women) are fatter / overweight their waist and ribcage are also wider. If you use the weight slider there are actually only adjustments to arms, legs and bum. For me this doesn't look balanced - Oprah Winfrey doesn't have a waist like Kate Moss!

  • Sometimes you want to remove an option like blush or cloth completely. But there is no way to do that.

Conclusion: Even though we don't get any statement here CCP seems to react to our feedback here. The adjustments CCP did is pretty good for example the color selection. I am very confident that we can see some more adjustments from CCP within the next days. Good work CCP!

I'd be surprised if the CCP wasn't aware of the obvious bugs even without us reporting. Either that or they don't bug test the released beta versions at all. What surprises me even more that with each release, while some improvements, it gets even more buggy. The blank race selection screen being an excellent example. Many who haven't used the creator before don't know where to approximately click to be able to go forward to the next phase. And even if they accidentally get through, there's the next problem of how to choose a bloodline and how to get from modeling to portrait...

Seriously, it has to be the eight wonder of the world if they are able to release a bug free CC by the 18th.
I'd say take at least three months or considerably more. It's in haphazard mode as it stands currently. Not a good job.

I seem to have a rather bad problem - my second char portrait will not save.
(Note: this is not the first char; this is a second char on account, whos portraits (any of them) will not save).

I tried using the back button, using different selections, logging off etc, but when I do all the regular changes, goto portrait mode, and select "Save" nothing happens. Therefore I have to quit the creator and lose changes. Seems a pretty nasty bug, has nobody else got it yet?

If it affects this bug my 3rd char slot is currently empty, and the first char slot has done the new avatar creation again.

Apart from the obvious bugs with the current version...

    GOOD:

    • The Gallente actually have a decent range of hair styles now

    • Better way of selecting lighting

    • The bigger and clearer colour buttons

    Bad:

    • Female avatars have a wider selection of hair colours than male avatars, it's slightly annoying to have my IRL red hair colour only available to female avatars, especially since I can recreate myself with the new creator

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but the Khanid male (as of when I tried it a few days ago) needs more hair styles. For example, the longer hair that's near bald on top. Most of the existing hair styles (not the bald ones) just don't seem to suit the Khanid males imo.

New builder version : same issues.

    - pitch black BGs everywhere
    - missing button icons (but buttons are here though)
    - the next button to validate the portrait also does not work for me.
    - the eyes does not work on brutor female (maybe on all females, haven't tried).
