Look at my current pic-do I look Asian! No! Do I want to be! No! This is my main character & I know how she looks! Please tell me I can change bloodline or I will have to wear a wig with dark glasses! I've too much invested in this one to ragequit, but c'mon CCP-let us choose for ourselves!I've nothing against toons from different genetic backgrounds-they're awesome-the new Brutor is fab in fact! But if you are foisting this on us at your whim-new players will doubtless rejoice at the clarity! But FFS, those of us who innocently went thro the original character creation because it seemed open & because of the attribute bonuses are going to be kicked in the ass with an avatar that just does not fit!If we absolutely HAVE to stay within a 'rigid' bloodline-c'mon-give us a break! So no one bred outside the family, changed their hair, or had tattoos-PLEASE! DON'T DO THIS TO ME I BEG YOU!!!!!!!!

Overall I really like the new Toon creation. I do have a few concerns. as we are in a modern age on females even of Vherokior persuasion should be able to color their hair any color they want. also on other questions gripes is about tribal Tattoos and tribal dress. I am unsure if it is too late to bring these back or not. I RP a little and it would be nice to have portraits that represent my Minmatar Heritage. other than that fantastic I cant wait.

Using all settings, the character creator was very laggy and slow. It got less slow with "low quality" characters checked. Checking and unchecking "physically simulated cloth and hair" seemed to make no difference either way. Overall it was very hard to use effectively.

My system specs:
Windows 7 64 bit
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 3400 series (256k) (supports shader model 4.1 and I have the most recent driver)
RAM: 4 GB RAM
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8200 @2.33GHz 2.34GHz

Also, it seems once you choose something like glasses or outerwear, there is no way to remove them without using the "back" feature. It would be nice to remove these if you decide you don't want them instead of just being able to change to another option of (glasses, outerwear, etc)

cant say there's no passion on this particular topic, eh?

for my part, i feel the same way, just in a slightly quieter, more composed manner...

free bloodline change? please?
or... maybe... just a bloodline-free character generation? dunno how hard that would be, but a suggestion...

Still, that graphics card is at the very low end amongst the year 2008 offerings. Better suited for office work.

Using high shader quality.
Intel i7/AMD X2 6000 + ATI HD5650/nVidia 9600GTS + 4GB RAM + Windows 7 (2 systems)

Usability problems:

Shaping the face:
- To be honest it's a bit poor especially around the eyes and ears stretching etc doesn't really feel intuitively. You move the section, while shrinking or expanding it at the same time. My suggestion would be to us the scroll wheel while on a section to alter it's size and restrict clicking and dragging to positioning and changing angles only. (Cheeks might be an exception, this behaved as expected.)
- Also while it makes the character lively, the continues moving and changing of expressions makes this process a bit hard, especially on low/mid range systems where this movement isn't even smooth.
Please make it so that when the mouse hovers over the character the movement is stopped, or even better, is fixed in a neutral position.

Right-hand selection pane:
- Mostly does performance problems here. Moving through the list isn't smooth unless you drag very slowly from right to left.
- Clicking on an option does not always select it immediately.
- Thumbnails -especially for lightning and hairstyles- are a bit unclear, don't really know what to expect based on those.
- Also due to unclear thumbnails, I prefer to just move through the list, but now this involves a lot of dragging and triple clicking (again as one time often isn't enough for a new selection). Maybe add a forward and backward button to move through the selection?

Portrait creation:
- The poses are great, however it's a bit hard to make out what the exact pose is unless you zoom out and tilt all the way down. Again clear thumbnails (perhaps a zoomed out image of your character) would help.
- The movement of your character across the screen is too restrictive. Often my character would be like glued to the top of the screen and I would be unable to move it down, to center on the face of my character. Happens especially when zoomed in. (e.g. in current portraits there is still some space between the top of the portrait and the character, better.)

A lot of this made my head spin in frustration.

Technical problems:

- De-selecting 'Physically simulated cloth and hair' remove hair altogether or produces very short hair.
- Long hair moves erratic.
- Enabling hair while zoomed up close reduces frame rate to such an extend that it's almost impossible to make changes to the face at least on my systems.
- Tucking options for the top and lower part function erratic.
- The choice for school in the final step seems of no influence, it seems still 'random' like previously.

Now a this has all been very negative, but visually I'm quite impressed. With a high-end system, a completed art gallery and a lot of patience you are able to create stunning characters.

TLDR: usage is not always intuitive and sometimes restrictive, bad performance, some bugs, looks awesome.

high settings core i7 920 - gtx 285. (TRI SLI if that is relevant)
eye color no longer updates properly during character editing. have to change pupils in order to see new eye color.

Also like to suggest the option to change avatar appearance after initial creation.

this creator is much more complex than original. people are going to be more prone to making mistake and/or changing their minds. preferably an isk sink rather than RMT.

also wish to see option to switch bloodlines if nothing is changed with new character creator. what is the harm in this anyways?

The Vherokior are very, very Asian. This isn't a major issue, but in the old portrait system, they were not, so I'm a tad confused.

Sorry to disagree, because I agree with every other point you made. But, this is an extremely major issue for some people, myself included. If this isn't corrected in the release version, I will close my account and not look back.

This character's racial background is not oriental, and I will not play her looking that way. And if I can't continue this character, I've no reason to stay.

At this point, CCP is an ocean liner without a rudder; the "team" system has lead to a situation where nobody is minding the store. I believe that non-EVE art designers are making arbitrary decisions about the racial appearances as they rush to meet their deadline. And CCP management is too disorganized and distracted to even notice such fundamental change.

Or maybe they don't understand their customers well enough to realize that many of us role play. Whatever the breakdown is, for me it's a major issue.

Well I hope a lot of people will vote for a free bloodline/race remap in my proposal and the CSM people will take notice an bring it to CCP's attention with some haste.

I really don't understand that, being players themselves, apparently not even one of the CCP devs has thought of the major impact the new looks and completely changed bloodline restrictions will have on the player community???

Just to drop my impressions, sorry I didn`t read all 14 pages to check for duplicates.

In general I really like the editor, especially because of the final result you get, can`t wait till we can see it ingame.
However, I find the handling courageous but highly ineffective. Sculpting is fun, but it`s easy to overlook morph options. I`m pretty sure a lot of people unfamiliar to 3D editing might not even notice that it matters if you are working in front or side view. It`s also inaccurate at times, and the system sets it`s own limits, eg. none of the eye handles allows to scale the eyes.
Maybe classic sliders should be implemented as an alternative.

Here`s a few bugs and probs I noticed:
-Bloodline previews don`t give much of an impression of the base mesh.
-Complexion does not respond at times.
-Colors only get applied after changing the selection (why not instantly?).
-Clothing (Jackets)at boobs needs more polys.
-Tuck options are hard to discover and often get stuck or jump between numbers (top).
-Intaki female has duplicate trousers (duplicates the selection frame as well).
-Some ponytails do not attach to the head.
-Black hair looks brown.
-Scrolling through selections is a mess. Little arrows right/left from the selection windows might help, or a scroll bar below them.

Still it`s already one of the most impressive editors I`ve seen, just needs to get more user friendly imo.

For this Gallente I look pretty much as I see myself-although I'm worried about us ALL looking like underwear models lol-more flexibility on the ugly/old/scarred/grey/grizzled, change height & shoulder width would be nice! Lots more hair choices-length, styles etc-otherwise we all end up looking like Christopher Reeve's superman or the suicidal emo kid look lol, clothes choices are far too limited-I think someone said we all look like we've been to the same store lol. I agree with the probs with female chars-I like my girls to have a bit of meat on their bones-I'm not into skinny wafers! Give us the 'real women' option plz!You know ones that have strong shoulders to carry those huge boobs I know you've all been playing with! & yes-mini skirts, stilletoes, cleavage, party hair(more long options & some waves would be very nice not all women have straight hair oddly enough!) & clothes too while you're at it! More skin tone options too-esecially an option for Latino & Indian characters. Heh heh!The rendering is awesome tho-very impressive! I do agree that there are a lot of bugs that need fixing, but that's why we're testing it! I think most of the probs have been detailed by other's so I'll just nod & agree lol.

Now-I have to completely agree with the passionate pleas for a bloodline change option, for those whose new avatars will deviate too far from their current one-particularly Verokior! My alt is Verokior-Chinese was NOT what I had in mind when I created her, if I'd known then she'd end up Chinese, I'd have chosen differently! I'd have no problem with a Chinese toon if I could knowingly make that choice in advance-but being forced into it is unfair to say the least! Who pays your wages CCP! lol, so, you gave us a free remap-now please give us a bloodline change option too-I'd be willing to pay for it too-I'm sure there are a LOT of other people in the same boat, although there have only been a small number of us who've been on Sisi-word DOES get around-and when you put it all into motion-you may well have great many rioting Minnies on your hands lol-so please pay attention to this & give us an option, thank you very much :)

Roleplayers, selling chars ? Rolling Eyes

I would never do such a thing. It is not just a toon you sell, but a whole character and its history.

Not a solution.

The more I fiddle with the current creator the more I feel being constricted.

The biggest disappointment is with the eyes. Or rather eyelids. The upper eyelid will not follow the curve of the eye and the lower (and upper) are non-existent. I mean is there a bloodline where you can make droopy eyes, is there a bloodline with a saggy lower lid or even a bigger (more puffy) lower eyelid?

Not even mentioning how the eyelashes are not lined up with they eyelids. They simply hover in midair. But this is surely just a bug as the artwork is in continuous shift.

Of course there's a lot that is the human face, but the eyes are the windows in to the soul, they should be prioritized.

You can't make an eye like these for example:

Forgive me if these have been mentioned...
  • Need a way to prevent character from moving when trying to grab small controls on body shape - VERY ANNOYING

  • Need better selection of hair for Male characters, especially long hair options - My Intaki looks wrong with short hair!

  • Need more skin tone options for all races, 5 is very restrictive

  • Need more clothing options for all races and genders

  • Please don't remove the older backgrounds, some of us love them

  • Need more skin tone options for all races, 5 is very restrictive

I got over my hissy fit! We will ALL have the opportunity to re-create our characters as WE see fit-& will get a free avatar transfer-ie-create a secondary character & they'll move it for nowt, so anyone hot under the collar like I was-calm down NOW! WE'LL BE OK!!

Now this is interesting-while mucking around today trying to create something else-I felt a sense of familiarity-I was seeing myself-a bit more tweaking & I've got, barring lines in the wrong place & 'cos we need to be able to change shoulder width-my own RL self! Important Information Regarding Character Portraits

EVE Online: Incursion will soon allow players to update their portraits using the new Carbon-based Character Creator. While the paid portrait swap service will remain available for those who still would like to swap a portrait prior to the expansion's release, we strongly recommend waiting for the expansion when such a change can be made free of charge.

If you have not yet seen what the new system has in store, we encourage you to read Torfi's blog, Introducing the Character Creator or to try out this amazing new feature first hand on Singularity, our public Test Server.

Additional thoughts on the editor.
Added after another looong character creation session on sisi:

All time when i try to create character, i feeling like very old iron lumberjack...
All time i need something in character editor for bring to this "dolls" mor personality.
It is not enough freedom of changes and mobility of some elements.
There is possibility to change the sizes no something, except a breast, a nose and ears.
Sometimes it would be desirable to make hardly less head, hardly there is more than eye, hardly there are less than muscles from a wrist and to an elbow.
Often, looking at the female character, it would be desirable to make a neck slightly more long or more shortly.
Very often it would be desirable to make cheekbones even less!
In the editor of an avatar, very strongly strains and enrage, constraint of eyeballs and muscles responsible for a smile or a gloomy look!
Sometimes it would be desirable, that the malicious character was shown.
Sometimes it would be desirable that the female character has combined sponges in "kiss".
Sometimes it would be desirable, that lips developed as though the character speaks "OH!" or "ARRRGH!" or "Uuuu!"
Very many man's characters look for 40 years old! Even if age switch is turned left.
Looking at small small squares with colors in a palette, it is almost impossible to understand, what color will be at hair, eyes, lips or a make-up.
Color of small squares very dark, or small squares too small.
Also in a window of creation of an avatar, the head of the character is twisted as at sick of a tetanus Shocked

One thing I've noticed from mucking about the last few days-but soo many Asian bloodlines-I mean Chinese/Japanese-every race has one-or in the case of Amarr-two! Oh now I remember-CCP's design studios are in SHANGHAI!!!! DUH! C'mon-where are the Indians/Amerindians/hot Latinos-or is it Brutor & lump it! Only one black capable bloodline-Please!!! We're not stupid you know! Most of us are European/North American extraction-fair play for trying to crack the Chinese market-but there is still the rest of the world out there you know!I've very much enjoyed playing with this new toy but there are so many imbalances-not least that I had to trash a character to leave a free slot in order create myself the way I see fit so that I can transfer it-its bloody silly-why not when you release this, let us all start from scratch as far as our avatars are concerened-I know I'm not the only person in the same boat!

In its favour it does look fab-and will be loads better once the bugs are fixed & we can customise everything :)

Not all so is bad, as it seems to you.
Here that at me it has turned out to make on your old avatar.

something like your avatar 2
Very Happy

But, for my character it is impossible to me, to make identical features, strongly pronounced sheaves on a neck, the cheek form, a piece of iron on a cheek and the artful form of shades for eyes, such with what they were in the old editor.
Certainly, I don't lose sight of that my character has lived long enough time in game and have had time to change tastes, habits and interests in the virtual life.

My Old Portrait
That at me has turned out
What it has not turned out to make in the editor

P.S.
This hair color in the editor appeared as black.
It is a bug.
From the noticed bugs: Hair of some hairdresses it is visible through a cheek, sometimes it is visible a backlash in seams of connection of eyelashes with a century, strange patches of light on a breast and in eyes.

On the whole, I really love the new character creator. Before I mention anything else, I have a question: why are we allowed to create four portraits? From in game, I can't figure out how to swap them, and I'm not sure, but I think it selected my top portrait even though it wasn't selected when I clicked the "Save" button. In any event, this is confusing. I thought I'd be able to swap portraits after (and maybe I can), but if it's possible, it wasn't obvious to me.

Anyway, a few little bugs:

If you track back through the history, it would be nice to be able to clear any steps you didn't like. There's a bug where making a new change will re-enable the changes you went back through the history in order to undo.

The color options for things like hair color and eye color are almost impossible to see. It's like looking at a bunch of shades of gray. I wish they were more distinct. Additionally, the color often doesn't change until you select, for example, a different eye option. And on a related note, changing the color of the facial hair often doesn't "stick" if you, say, select a different eyebrow. You have to reapply the color.

Oh, one more thing--I realize Walking in Stations or Incarna or whatever it's called now is still far away, but why can't we change the height of our characters? It bugs the hell out of me in games when all of the avatars are exactly the same height.

But again, I'm very happy with the end results. I almost feel as though the version of my character that I did on SISI is a real person.

I played a bit more with the creator again, and I'm really liking the improvements. Here are my thoughts so far:

Age -

Adding age increases the nose and ears slightly, and when you're really old age spots appear, and other small things on the surface of the face and body, and the skin will hang a bit more loose. I think it should also alter the face mesh a bit by causing the nose to be a bit larger with each increment, and allow us to put wrinkles on the neck & jowls to a certain degree.

Apparel wear styling -

I want to be able to tuck my pants into boots, or make them go over the boots. Tuck in shirt, or leave it hanging over pants. Put on robe hood, or leave it off. Roll up sleeves, etc.

Allow us to choose facial demeanor - for instance angry (causes our face to make sqawling faces, etc) thoughtful, etc. Basically it's the current default that the character takes - more than just the current pose.

Men's hairstyles still need work.

Men's facial hair still needs work.

Colors are a little strange, and some options didn't seem to work.

I'd love more Caldari uniforms and clothing options. Facial implants and tattoos. And I hope they add in the ability for height options.

All in all - I really love it. Can't wait for Incarna Very Happy

Classic example - Leonard Cohen, in 1967 vs 2008

Apparel wear styling -

I want to be able to tuck my pants into boots, or make them go over the boots. Tuck in shirt, or leave it hanging over pants. Put on robe hood, or leave it off. Roll up sleeves, etc.

I'd also love some of those options you mention.

The shirt-tuck / boot-tuck is already available (with varying degrees of success, ie. boots are a bit buggy, atm...), for example -

UI Feedback....

I've been away from the Creator for a few days, but came back after people requested 'Achura' vids... In my absence I think a couple of things changed; and it'd be great if someone here (or even a Dev, if they're back at work from Xmas) could confirm this either way...

1. The 'Random shape' button, now cycles through the various morph targets - rather than just 'pop'-here's your new random.

2. The 'Values'/whatever of the morph targets have been strongly reduced, ie. clicking random (now), rarely, if ever, produces a 'freaky'-looking character - but instead, creates much more 'sensible' variations on the mesh that went before... Very subtle, in a very good way.

3. Return of the body snatchers.... Torso and Arms missing from this (male) Vherokior, in the 'Select a Bloodline' screen...

UI Feedback:

Just started up a brutor female creation, and noticed that there were more shirt-tuck options available for her, than I'd seen on the Gallente male; so I tried to cycle through them, and....

1. I like the variations. tucked, hanging, belly top, angled hang - all really good.

2. It's kinda borked, though -
-- When I click, to go from option 1 to 2 - it goes (Sometimes)... Sometimes it goes back to 1.
-- When I click, to go from option 2 to 3 - it goes (Sometimes)... Sometimes it goes back to 1.
-- When I click, to go from option 3 to 4 - it goes (Sometimes)... Sometimes it goes back to 1.
-- When I click, to go from option 4 to 5 - it goes (Sometimes)... Sometimes it goes back to 1...... etc.
I've tried to find a rhyme or reason to explain it, but the closest I can get to reproducing it (or standing a snowball's chance in hell, of getting past 'four' - is to wait a while in between clicks, but I'm still not convinced about that 'remedy'.)

I think I've managed to get to 7 once, out of (God knows) how many attempts at going all the way through - if you go in reverse order, it's just as random, but at least you get to see 7 fairly often - it's the same as 1, but hangs further down; at the sides...
